    Spoiler:

"You can't be serious." Argued a gruff looking man.

"I'm afraid so, mister. The price is not negotiable." Replied the merchant.

Zurui watched from his hidden perch atop a roof as the two men continued to haggle. He had little concern over their particular debacle. His interest was elsewhere, a matter of subject that he had little to go on beyond that an artifact he sought was somewhere in this town. The idea was to remain hidden (until the ever-late Akihiro arrived) and listen to street chatter until somebody brought up something of relevance. There was no luck as of yet, but he remained vigilant, since he was supposed to rendezvous with the Konoha-Nin in this general area anyway.

The First Piece (C) Empty Re: The First Piece (C)

Post by Uchiha Akihiro Mon Oct 01, 2018 4:28 pm

Ah, Akihiro was excited for this one! It was going to be his first unofficial mission, a mission of the underworld. The Uchiha had his own motives as to why he was doing this but the most important one was information. The best way to keep the criminal underworld in check in his own village was to be part of it, and well respected within that environment. With that in mind and the Council's approval, the young Uchiha accepted Zurui's suggestion and joined the Jonin in this kind of mission.

Today they were supposed to be taking an item from a small town in the Land of Waves. Despite being a minor country there seemed to be a lot happening in this place. From the nasty ransackers earlier to the sudden interest of the criminal underworld in a particular item that this town held, the Land of Waves was certainly a land of opportunities. Terrifying opportunities it seemed, but opportunities nonetheless and Akihiro was ready to take them.

Akihiro landed on the roof close to Zurui. He had been late for the rendezvous but this time for a good reason. Approaching Zurui, he glanced at what the Jonin was looking at. "That's Min. A stray merchant who deals more in stolen goods than anything else. He lives by the docks with a wife and two kids. Kids are fishermen, non-relevant. Wife is almost ten years younger, arranged marriage. Family hates him." He then discreetly glanced towards the man who seemed to now be leaving the stall with an angry look on his face. "Tai. Young and reckless. Has anger management issues and a large gambling debt. Owes about 5,000 ryo to the town's loan shark. It may not seem like much, but it's a lot when the average income in town is 200 ryo per month. It's a poor town alright." Truth to be told, they all seemed to be living in poverty. Akihiro had spent the last two days discreetly wandering around town and observing every movement in town. His eidetic memory allowed him to remember almost everything and his intellect easily put together every piece of information he gathered. But no one seemed to know, or at least hint at knowing where the loan shark was. If anyone knew where the vault was, it was this man.

"Since they're both here, one of the options is to kidnap the wife and have Min tell us where the loan shark lives. The wife hates him, but he needs her at home. The loan shark supplies his store. The other option is to offer to rid Tai of his loan if he talks. But I'm unsure if he knows the right location. It's a risk. Otherwise, there are 12 other options but we'd have to track down particular people and it'd waste our time."

It seemed as though a fortuitous turn of events had brought the duo everything they'd needed to avoid the more tedious parts of the mission. However, it would require the compromise of what most people would call basic human morals. The easier path was clear and Zurui hadn't the concern over trifling things to watch it walk away.

"Simplest is to split up. I'll keep watch over the merchant while you go and fetch his wife. Fire up a signal and I'll give him the terms once you have her secured." The Jounin instructed, keeping his watchful eye on the street below. This may just turn out to be one the easier missions. He could hope, anyway.

Post by Uchiha Akihiro Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:14 pm

Akihiro shrugged. He had given Zurui the choice because both plans were decent and there wasn't really much of a difference between the two. Technically he was better qualified to fetch the wife while Zurui kept watch over the man. After all Akihiro had been the one to do all the scouting and he knew where the wife lived. Nodding, Akihiro turned around and vanished heading for the near shores. There he would find the port and the houses where the woman lived. Her kids were by the house as well, right outside taking care of the nets. Akihiro figured they would be repairing holes in it.

As the young Uchiha approached the place, a rain of feathers seemed to begin to fall. Light, delicate and great in number these would fall softly on the ground. The wife came outside, to look at this curious event and Akihiro smiled because this played right into his plans. The fact that the wife had come out would actually save him the trouble of going in and risk leaving some evidence due to a troublesome fight or even his target's panic. This was after all a criminal underworld mission and Akihiro would really rather not leave evidence behind. The effect of the jutsu was almost immediate as the three bodies fell on the floor completely asleep. With some effort, Akihiro turned the small rowboat around and covered the two brothers. As for the wife, Akihiro sent a fireball into the air to signal Zurui on his success. If everything went according to plan, by the time the Jonin arrived with Min, Akihiro would have the wife sat on a chair, completely tied to it.

Zurui saw the signal in the air and immediately leaped into the street to take hold of the merchant. The man started to put up a fight, but Zurui coldly held a kunai to his neck and then jumped back onto the roof. He moved atop the buildings to limit visibility, while ensuring that the kunai remained in place as a reminder to not make this difficult in any way. He bore no outward signs of it, but Zurui was obviously a killer of some kind, whether ninja or skilled criminal.

Eventually, the Jounin made it to the location where Akihiro held the merchant's wife. Letting the man get a good look at his relative beloved, Zurui offered a choice. "We're looking for a prominent loan shark. We know he's in this town and we know you have his location. Tell us what you know or I kill her and then you." His tone was even colder than usual, and the merchant knew he meant business.

    "Where are my children?!"
"For the 100th time woman, your children are safe. They're just taking a nap like you were."
"But they're just children! Only sixteen!"
"Hey I'm 14 and I'm holding a blade to your neck."

Akihiro and the woman were in the middle of a rather awful argument when the man arrived "escorted" by Zurui. Akihiro couldn't be more thankful, this woman was truly giving him a headache and his decision to save chakra and break the illusion was starting to become something he regretted. "You! I knew you had something to do with this! What did you do?!"
The woman glared at her husband and Akihiro could clearly see there was hatred in her eyes. This was starting to be more and more like a tv drama. Before the man could answer however, Zurui spoke and the wife suddenly widened her eyes. "Wait, you want the loan shark?! Why didn't you say so sooner?! I can tell you where he lives! I've been there plenty of times clearing up that trash's debts!" Akihiro could only assume the market stall business wasn't going all that well. The woman's face suddenly turned devious. "Tell you what. I'm sick and tired of that bastard wasting our money away on alcohol. You make me a widow and I'll give you what you want."

Akihiro gave a look to Zurui and shrugged. It could certainly save them time.

It seemed like a simple trade. The merchant began begging for his life, of course, spouting that he'd introduce them personally to the loan shark and make sure they got everything they needed. Either option would give them the desired outcome, so which was the better choice? The Jounin let the man go who then, thinking he had won the verbal struggle, began dusting himself off. "You made the right choice." He proclaimed proudly. His expression dropped, however, when the kunai landed in his throat. He began choking on his own blood which poured out onto the ground when the Jounin reclaimed his weapon. He cleaned it on the still-dying man's clothes and looked up at the woman. She looked way too happy.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go! Oh, wait, the kids..." One stern look from the Jounin reminded her of how easily he'd killed her degenerate ex-husband. Heheh, yeah, they'll be fine." She decided...wisely. As soon as Akihiro let her loose, she'd lead them right to the loan shark's home. It was Akihiro's turn to make the entrance, so Zurui stood by, making sure the woman didn't leave until they'd found what they sought.

"You know, you could have at least made it less messy..." Akihiro commented, as he stepped away from the pool of blood and outside. It wasn't his problem really, the woman was the one who would have to clean up after them. But truth to be told Akihiro had a gut feeling that she would enjoy purging the house from her now deceased husband's remains. Alas, they walked for quite a bit. Zurui's glare was enough to intimidate the woman into being quiet and not draw attention as the three of them walked through town. They crossed the main road and ended up at the loan shark's house. They didn't even know this guy's name, now that Akihiro thought about it.

"Well technically nobody does. He just goes by Shark. He either bought or killed off the competition in this town so it's not like there's anyone to contest that name." This was the only thing the woman told them when he asked her about it. Akihiro raised an eyebrow.  So he was supposed to bust around the house and just ask for the name "Shark"? He felt a bit ridiculous doing that. Alas, now they found themselves in front of the house. It was a modest one, but it was in decent condition.  Time to change that! Akihiro muttered. He breathed wind release into his palms and shot a bunch of spheres at the doors and windows. The Whirlwind balls were fast and powerful, capable of smashing through thick rock. So they went through the wooden house like butter. Akihiro shot five, one through the door and four through the windows. But he didn't enter the place.

"What do you want?!" A voice yelled from one of the windows.

"We're here for a loan!" Akihiro smiled and waved. A dead body fell from one of the windows and hit the ground with an audible crack.

Wind Release was always Akihiro's preferred element, Zurui knew, but it looked like he was developing an obsession with the vacuum bullets technique. Men started flooding out of the building, knives blazing, so to speak. They lined the front of the streetside face of the building, ready to engage at the drop of a hat. The group nearest the door spread out to make room as their boss walked through. It suddenly became very obvious why they called him Shark. He was about the biggest, bluest, Hoshigaki-est man Zurui had ever seen. "I got your loan right here, buddy! Light 'em up, boys!"

The men rushed in without a second thought, brandishing hammers, maces, swords, clubs, daggers, and everything but the kitchen sink. No, actually, one of them was wielding a kitchen sink. Zurui held up his hands with his index fingers extended like guns and started firing water bullets at everyone in sight, hoping Akihiro would pick up many of them as well, lest they be overrun. The woman started to run away but another glance from Zurui had her shivering in a corner behind the two ninja.

Fuuton was indeed Akihiro's favorite element. Not only because it was versatile since air existed nearly everywhere, but also because it was his natural element and the one he had been using and training with ever since he was a small child. It was true that Katon was powerful and more Uchiha like, but Akihiro could make Fuuton just as deadly if not more. Alas, he was about to prove he could perform brilliant Katon ninjutsu as well.

A bunch of armed thugs came from inside the house. Akihiro sighed. Why would these idiots abandon the safety of the building? It was true that it did poorly against his wind balls but some protection was better than none. It mattered not, this would only make his job easier. Zurui began dealing with a bunch of them and while he did so Akihiro glanced at the ones that were left for him.   Dog → Horse → Tiger the three handseals were made fast but with extreme care. In a moment, about thirty floating fireballs spawned around Akihiro. And with a single glance they took the shape of ghosts and began chasing after their opponents. Not only did this frighten them but it also put them down. The flaming ghosts would chase the targets and wait until they were in a proper position to hit them and cause explosions with a five meter radius. By the time he wrapped up the jutsu there were about twenty five burned bodies laying on the ground and there was a scent of cooked pork in the air.

"Damn I hope you kept at least one of them alive..." Akihiro would comment. This technique's efficiency was way off charts.

When the demon lanterns spawned, Zurui knew that Akihiro would be able to take care of the lesser thugs on his own, leaving the big guy. Shark started charging in, undaunted by the flames that steadily fell his men. Zurui met him halfway, drawing out a simple kunai with apparent intent to handle this by hand. Shark smiled, but unfortunately for him, this was not the case. Zurui formed a hand seal and let out a breath of wind so powerful that it caught the surrounding demon lanterns and turned their individual flames into a blazing inferno. Those who were not yet dead or just on the brink certainly were now, leaving only the rather large and hardy loan shark on his knees, charred body covered only by the many burns across his skin.

"Now then," Zurui began, walking closer, "We're looking for a special rod and we know you have it. Turn it over and I may not mutilate you further." The man coughed up a puff of smoke and, in too much pain to move, simply spoke the details without any of his previous showmanship.

"I had the rod! It's not here anymore. Look, I don't know much about the guy. He's some kind of ninja that went rogue. Paid a lot of money for that stick and I didn't think twice about it. You can probably catch him by the docks. He was supposed to be leaving somewhere important today. That's all I know..."

"Well that's bad. We oughta hurry." Akihiro stated. Suddenly he wished they had done this a lot faster. If for some reason that guy managed to escape with the rod to a boat somewhere they would have a lot of trouble tracking him down and finding him. It was one thing to track movements on land, but boats left no trail behind and the Land of Waves was famous for having all sorts of ships passing through it. If that ship sailed, it could really go anywhere in the world and this would be a failed mission. Akihiro would have liked to find a cleaner way to deal with Shark but the man had seen their faces and he didn't want to deal with possible revenge attempts later on. There was very little time to properly tie loose ends, so Akihiro quickly drew a kunai and with a swift movement, he made chakra flow through it, waving it around for a second the blade grew immensely, about 30 centimeters which was a lot compared to the original blade's size.

    "Name of the ship?"
    "I..I don't know....Princess Marie? Or was it Marianne? I can't remember, I swear!"

Akihiro saw the look of terror on his target's face. For a moment he wanted to spare his life but this was no time for hesitation. Quick and efficiently the young Uchiha waved the kunai one more time and used the extended chakra to slice the man's throat. Blood splurted out, but none of it touched either shinobi. "Let's go." He stated before coldly turning around and leaving. This Akihiro was different from the Akihiro of 2 years ago. There was a certain darkness to him.

The two of them kept running until they reached the harbour, where a lot of ships were stationed. They needed to find this ship.

The tone of this mission had gone completely different to the ones they had started out doing. This whole criminal underworld endeavor that they'd chosen to engage in brought out much more serious and darker sides to the both of them. To be honest, Zurui liked it. He was one that often changed faces and personalities as it suited him and this was one that he'd not had much time to enjoy.

As Akihiro finished off the loan shark, Zurui looked back to the woman that had led them there. It would probably be safer to go ahead and kill her off, but the terrified look on her face told him that she'd not speak of them. He let her go, which he would probably regret later on, but that was a problem for another time. Right now they needed to find this runaway rogue.

Arriving at the harbor, Zurui immediately scanned for any boats already out at sea. There were two, both too far away to read the names. Unfortunately, none of those docked to the shore had any name similar to Marianne or Marie, so it had to be one of the ones already out. The Jounin darted off to chase them but, given his lacking speed, he wasn't likely to catch them at all. He stopped at the shore, weighing his options. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimmer. A quick glance revealed the very rod they'd been looking for, shining in the sunlight as it hung on the belt of some hooded man rushing to get his small boat off to sea. The Kiri-nin took a moment to read the name of the boat. "The Blue Marine?"

"That has to be it." Akihiro muttered. He had completely forgotten about the woman earlier on and he was still mumbling on it. This was sure to bring them problems later, but right now they had bigger issues to deal with. The man had gotten on the boat and placed his hands on the water, near the back of the small wooden vessel. It was a rowing boat but he was carrying nothing that could be used to actually row.

"Oh crap." Akihiro said out loud as the man's hands produced a jet of water that propelled the boat at an amazing speed towards a bigger vessel anchored a few miles off the coast. Unlike Zurui, he hadn't quite reached the shore yet and was still close to the harbour. A quick glance towards the stationed ships and he immediately calculated which one would be faster. Moving at his max speed- which was pretty shitty but we'll get to that, Akihiro jumped on to one of the ships. The crew was confused and swords were raised. Akihiro identified the captain and threw a very valuable pearl at him, which he had snatched from one of the Shark's men. "This should cover the trip. Follow that bastard!"

If there was one thing sailors loved, it was gold. "Aye" was the general response and within a few minutes both ships were sailing towards the horizon one after the other. Zurui would have time to catch up with Akihiro's ship. It would take a couple of hours but the Uchiha knew they would eventually reach them.

The target suddenly sped off and Akihiro soon after, leaving Zurui alone at the beach. He was sure the Uchiha would probably be able to handle the situation on his own, especially with a crew by his side, so Zurui pondered his best course of action. Staying here on the beach, he could lay a trap for the enemy should he return here, but looking at the circumstance, he was more likely to flee for another land than he was to come back here. Alternatively, he could find a crew himself and chase after them, lend some kind of aid. That, or he could go grab a drink somewhere.

So a Jounin walked into a bar. When he came out, he had a gang of pirates behind him, all ready to ransack the little boat that had the great treasure on it. They loaded up in their ship and took off after the Uchiha and the rod thief. Their boat was a big one, equipped with canons a plenty and a mermaid lined with iron at the bow. If they caught up to that boat, it was finished. the only concern lay in actually getting there soon enough. The pirates did not use Suiton to speed their travel. They had oars and strong men to use them. The only hope in their powerful force arriving was in Akihiro managing to slow the enemy somehow.

"That idiot stayed at the beach..." Akihiro muttered. He had expected Zurui to use the water walking tecnique and catch up with his ship while it was still gaining speed. But instead it seemed like the Jonin had decided the proper course of action was to walk towards one of the sailor pubs at the docks. Akihiro shrugged. If his enemy was a single guy, he could probably handle him. Either way, Kirigakure no Sato shinobi's work ethics seemed to be a little disappointing.

Alas, Akihiro stood on top of the ship's mast for an hour. They were definitely catching up but the young Sparrow needed to watch the horizon around them to make sure there weren't any other hostile ships incoming. These areas were famous for having a lot of ships passing by and that of course meant they were famous for having a lot of pirates "passing by". It was during one of those horizon searches that Akihiro spotted the pirate ship coming behind them. He had no idea Zurui was
    on it.

Akihiro's ship approached its prey after another half hour and while they weren't in range of his canons they were certainly in range of his jutsu. A quick set of hand-seals and Akihiro release Fire Release: Intelligent Hard work on the opponent's ship's sails. He had to be extra careful not to set the entire thing on fire. "You're not going anywhere..." Then his ship repositioned so that their broadside would be turned towards the incoming pirates: Zurui's ship.

Sails were set fire on the small vessel, slowing the enemy's escape enough for Zurui's band of merry pirates to begin catching up. It would still take time, though, and by the time they were closed in on each other, both ships were likely to begin firing on each other without question. Zurui hadn't exactly described the enemy vessel to the pirate captain and, being honest, the little one that he was after probably didn't have any treasure beyond that golden rod, so he thought it probably best to just let them assume it was Akihiro's ship and let the two crews fight it out while he went after that rod.

Unbeknownst to Zurui, the rod thief dove into the water from the side of his boat facing away from his pursuers. He knew he couldn't be seen this way, which allowed a smooth escape while everyone started fighting. He positioned a rebreather mask on his face to continue swimming under the waves, unseen, so that he could sneak aboard Akihiro's ship and blend in with the rest of the crew. He'd have to take part in the approaching firefight, of course, but he was confident enough in his abilities to come out on top and hopefully steal one of the two ships to make his way to, well, wherever it was he was going.

Akihiro spotted Zurui standing on the incoming ship just as the two were arriving. It wasn't hard to tell it was a pirate ship and one could only deduce they were after the one Akihiro took from the docks. He shrugged, it didn't matter all that much as long as they could get their hands on that rod. This was the nice part of underworld missions: It didn't matter how they got the job done or which lines they crossed as long as in the end the job was actually done.

The ships got closer to each other and soon the boarding began. Dodging the opponent's swords, bolts and arrows wasn't difficult at all, but Akihiro countered no move because he was trying to focus on finding the bastard on the other ship. From where he was standing he could see the crew struggling to put out the flames but there was no sign of their target. Dodging a bit more here and there Akihiro kept on walking around his ship to try to get a better angle. It was almost like a dance really, except everyone who attacked him ended up looking silly.

Eventually Zurui would capture the man and the duo would leave, mission completed.

Zurui did indeed capture the man. The pirates began assailing the honest, hard working crew and in the mess of the huge battle, the Kiri-nin began his hunt. He started by sinking the rogue-nin's boat with a canonball. Since nothing came up out of the wreckage, he naturally assumed that the enemy had already managed to stow away with the crew. So much like Akihiro, Zurui avoided the waging battle and waited until they had just about killed each other off. Then, like the merciless future genin he was, Zurui slaughtered the rest, searched the vessels, located the enemy, subdued him, obtained the rod, and left to drop it off at the nearest depot. The mission was over.
