"That makes sense," the blue haired girl commented on Satori's description of when Ryuutei children started learning to mold chakra. "My mother's family believes in early starts. Tsughi started joining my lessons once she could walk and talk."

"I'll go with you," Riku decided after running her fingers along the bone table leg. She stood and followed Satori into the kitchen.

"No waste, huh," the blue haired girl murmured. Brown eyes trailed over the pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils, taking note of the materials: bone, wood, leather.

Her eyes hungrily took in the salted meat crates and jars of vegetables. Half her mind strayed from Satori's voice to how she might be able to copy some of the Ryuutei's methods of storing food to help increase the amount of meat in her own household. Riku's diet, unlike a Ryuutei's, consisted mostly of rice and vegetables (often pickled) with tofu and only a little bit of meat. Beans and nuts provided a lot of the protein in the blue haired girl's diet because they were cheaper.

"Does that include human kills?" Riku asked, coming closer to watch Satori light the stove. Her tone held a quiet awe at the resourcefulness of the Ryuutei clan.

She kept an ear out for the response, eyes already wandering to explore the rest of the kitchen. Every detail was of interest to the knowledge thirsty girl. This was, after all, the first time she got to freely examine the house of someone she wasn't related to.

She sniffed the air lightly as the scent of meat drifted from the pan. Her mouth watered. Riku had never had so much meat in a casual meal before, let alone a snack. She licked her lips slightly while Satori sliced the meat from the bone. Riku could almost taste the meat.

The tall boy's mention of when he began to work with chakra in comparison to his sisters piqued Riku's curiosity even further.

    "What was your first trial?"

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Satori Ryuutei on Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:30 pm

Satori answered her first question without even a moment of hesitation. Nodding his head once in agreement. "Human's aren't special. We're like any other animal, only held together by our cultures and morals that vary so tremendously they're impossible to rely on or worry over. Bodies of our kin and those we kill or find are used as much as any deer or beast." With this, he flipped the chicken idly as the rice began to boil, locking on the pressurized lid and cranking it steadily to help increase the speed of the cooking without harming the rice.

With that done, he turned and stirred the stock that was rapidly forming, adding in soy sauce and a few diced chilies that were hanging from the roof in the cellar. The second question was answered as he worked.

"The first trial is universal. We are stripped naked, all weapons and supplies removed. We haven't learned to control chakra yet, as that is the purpose of the trial. We are then sent into the forest with nothing and told to survive on our own for a month, six months from our birthday. Mine ended up being in the middle of winter due to that. Serena's and Saika's were done in the spring of last year." As he explained this he would stir the pot, watching it slowly turning into a deep broth that smelled lightly of spices before he moved toward an odd looking wooden counter piece.

Which then opened, revealing it's handmade steel internal workings as a small refrigerator that was part of the counter itself. Pulling out a jug of incredibly heavy looking cream Satori rose back up and moved toward the stove.

"It took me about a month to make that by hand when I was building this place," he stated idly, in reference to the refrigerator, before he would turn and pour the cream into the broth, turning it into a honey and cream-hued sauce. Then pouring that through a metal woven basket, draining out any thick chunks of meat, bones, and so forth leaving behind a glowing sauce. Finally, he continued his previous answer.

"You have to survive with nothing, and when the month finishes you have to break down the camp you made so no one else can use it and find your way back home, alone. Taking with you all the tools, clothing, and supplies you've gathered during your month stay." Raising a hand up and grasping a wooden carved bowl, Satori used a long wooden spoon with a bone handle to transfer two large spoonfuls of rice into its bottom before adding the hefty amount of chicken on top. Finishing it with a ladle of the sauce before he'd turn and lead her out of the room, setting down along with a pair of elegant ivory chopsticks for her to use that had been carved into elegant designs of dragons circling one another along their grips.

"Let me clean up, I'll be right back," he stated simply, petting her head and moving so she could enjoy her meal in the dining room/living room combination. The sound of pots turning echoing from the kitchen before Satori came out with a large plate that held dried fruits and nuts, as well as what appeared to be a large slab of smoked pork that had a honey glaze. Setting it down between them to share, the meat was still pink in the center and sliced thin.

"There's no bacteria in it, drying and smoking the meat takes care of that. It's sweet, you'll like it." A slight smile formed on Satori's lips as his own chopsticks that matched her own but held designs of lions instead popped a slice of dried apple into his mouth. Now, with the scent of meat filling the air, distant meow's began to be heard.

Satori's blunt description of humanity as nothing special and only held together by cultures they made for themselves made Riku give him a wide eyed look. She hadn't ever thought of humanity so... harshly. Perhaps another person wasn't necessarily meaningful to her just because they were human. Her family, however, was special to her. Riku couldn't put any moral reasoning to it; she depended on, relied on, and had grown close to them and so she would be protective of them until the day she died.

"Brutal and practical," she mumbled, the only commentary she was willing to offer at the moment. Riku hadn't really been taught a specific way to view humanity in general, only her duty to her family.

Could she so comfortably use a tool that had been made from her father's flesh and bones?

Riku shook her head to banish the gruesome thought, trying not to let her eyes water. Instead, she focused on the description of the first trial and tried to imagine surviving something like that with nothing but her skin and strength to guide her through. The blue haired girl shivered slightly at the thought. It was no surprise Satori was so strong; he wouldn't have survived to meet her otherwise.

Still pensive, Riku nodded at Satori's casual mention of having built the refrigerator (and the house) by himself, but didn't comment aloud. She followed him back to the dining room and sat obediently, waiting for him to return.

The pat on the head was vaguely comforting, stirring the blue haired girl from her thoughts.

The scent of the freshly cooked meal (was this what Satori considered a snack?) made her mouth water and her nose twitch. While Riku waited for Satori to come back, she examined the ornate, bone chopsticks the tall boy had lent her for the meal. She ran a finger over the design, feeling the fine lines carved into the material.

Satori must have spent a long time making these, Riku mused, picking the chopstick up between her thumb and two fingers to hold it closer to her face for inspection.

The tall boy's return elicited a faint smile from the blue haired girl seated at the table. Though she had gone quiet, Riku didn't seem terribly disturbed or uncomfortable so much as thoughtful. The meows drew a giggle from Riku.

"Are there a lot of cats that live here? Are any of them pets?"

Her comment on the methods being "brutal and practical", caused a slight nod of Satori's head. "Indeed. Just like every other species on the planet, besides other humans that think themselves superior enough to question the laws of nature." A slight shrug, it wasn't an accusing statement and there was no harshness in his voice. He was simply speaking a fact he knew was true, humans didn't fear nature and hadn't for many years. It's what had allowed them to grow as they had, only great catastrophes reminding them of their place.

Still, he glanced at her at the concept of it being just that and felt he needed to say something more. "But, we don't simply carve up the meat and forget them, you know." As he stated this he slowly allowed his gaze to drift out toward the window of the kitchen that faced the great farmlands.

"They are with us still. They nurture the crops that feed their children. They protect their families even in death as powerful weapons. A father may no longer exist to chop wood, but his bones that form an axe can be used to do so, in a way, even after he has faded. A mother may no longer be able to suture your clothing, but she can still be the needle. We pass down our knowledge as if it were gold, because that knowledge is who a person truly is, those memories, that information, the thoughts and philosophy they had. That is what makes a human. Not some sack of meat and organs that can so easily fall, and die. Ideals, Thoughts, Teachings-- these things are immortal as long as you are willing to carry them, and pass them on." A slight smile formed on his lips at this, before he straightened and turned as they headed to the dining room.

"It's why any one of us would die for our clan, for our village and people, without hesitation. No matter our age-- though, we do our best to ensure the children don't have too, as they are the next generation to hear our stories." Once this was done, he allowed the words to peter away, and once he had returned with the food the boy would fall into his seat across from her and chew his bite of food.

Of course, as the girl would inquire about cats a light laugh filled his chest. "Ryuutei have no pets. Only friends." He stated simply, nodding toward the far wall. It was difficult to see, but there were slim flaps in the walls upper sections with shelves aligned tactically for something to come down from it with ease. As if called, a sudden bright orange fuzzy head pushed the flap open and meowed. It held no collar but idly slinked inside as it began to make its way down the steps. The feline was large for a cat but clearly was still of the domestic breeds to some degree.

"Kalla," he stated shortly with an amused smile. "We have many cats, leftover descendants from our first elder. Bears from our second still wander the forest as guardians, in a way, though we have drifted apart as is in their nature. You'll often see lions here, due to our current elder." As he explained this, the large cat leap up onto the table and would sit patiently. Without hesitation, Satori removed a piece of the meat and placed it down for the cat on the table on a slim wooden plate that almost appeared to be on the table for that purpose with how naturally he did so.

"They do not eat on the floor. They choose their own names. They kill our moles, mice, and insects, protecting our farms. Alert us of danger, and in return, we call them by their names, never enslave, and fight alongside them." Lowering a hand, the feline sniffed it a moment, before butting his head against it and accepting the meat. Biting into the flesh with practiced ease as Satori took another bite for himself.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:56 pm

The explanation of how the Ryuutei clan honored their dead through immortalizing their ideas (and parts of their bodies) made the practice of getting use out of everything, even the corpses of their loved ones, seem more cathartic than harsh and cold. Riku imagined the spirits of Ryuutei past lingering in the compound, their memories embedded in every aspect of Ryuutei clan life from the crops she'd seen in the fields outside basking in the sun to the very tools they used for every day life to the weapons that protected current generations from harm.

Riku, by contrast, had nothing left of her father but the memories. Taji hadn't really spoken of Lee since he died two years before. The blue haired girl kept him alive through bedtime stories whispered to Tsughi after Taji tucked them in bed. Riku hadn't had the heart to ask her mother about her father yet. She hadn't felt right agitating the half healed wounds in her mother's heart.

In the meantime, Riku sampled her food. The rich and creamy sauce complemented the rice and chicken almost perfectly.

"Mmm," the blue haired girl let out a moan of satisfaction as savory flavors danced across her tongue, a grin stretching across her face. The questions and pensiveness were pushed to the back of Riku's mind for the next several bites of food.

She looked over at the cat, who was wolfing down the offering from Satori's plate with similar gusto.

Quietly she wondered how the cats and other animals communicated their names. They could probably talk. Were they summons? Riku wondered if it would be too invasive to ask. While she pondered, the blue haired girl continued to eat.

"You're a good cook Satori-san," Riku told him between bites.

Right about then, the orange cat entered through the flap in the wall and made its way to the table, presumably to join them for their "snack".

"Nice to meet you Kalla-san. I'm Riku. I hope we get along." The blue haired girl reached out a hand and offered it a few inches away from the orange cat for Kalla to smell.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Satori Ryuutei on Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:58 pm

Satori offered a slight smile as she clearly enjoyed the meal, eventually offering him a compliment causing him to laugh softly. Resting his chin lightly in his palm as he nodded his head once, "I've been cooking since I was little. We have to eat so much food it only makes sense to know how to make it the most effective and taste the best." As he explained this, he would glance up at the girl when she introduced herself to Kalla. A light smile decorating his lips as the feline sniffed at her fingertips a few times, before nuzzling it once and returning to his meal, seemingly content with this interaction.

"They're descendants only, not true summons." Satori explained simply, "They're quite intelligent for their kind, incredibly so, but they're incapable of normal speech. We communicate through a technique that allows us to communicate through images and emotions mentally. We Ryuutei are naturally in-tuned with animals, especially felines, in general." As he explained this, the boy would settle back in his seat while he took occasional bites, watching as she devoured the food with relish. The way that she ate the meat specifically reminded him to bring more of it next time he visited, allowing his gaze to trail upward for a few moments.

"You can come here whenever you like. If I'm not home you can just lounge around, or read some of the medical books from my mother, anything you like really." Smiling lightly, he would take another bite of the meat in thought before glancing at their surroundings.

"So, what do you think so far, Riku-chan?" He inquired simply, smiling as he would rest his chin firmly on his interwoven fingers now. "Most people have left by now. I didn't expect you too, but I'm curious what you're thinking about." He'd noticed the far-off look in the girl's eyes, but once more he had no intention of prying just yet. Perhaps based on her answer, he may a bit. Negative feelings were something that needed to be dealt with in the end, and letting them fester was the worst thing you could do to yourself. But, at the same time, if it was timed badly it could hamper her from moving on.

He'd let her answer decide on his next actions, and perhaps if it was too soon he'd show her around the house and grounds a bit before exploring the rest of the compound. If she needed to talk well-- he was always an ear, especially if it helped the first girl that had shown interest and understanding in him.

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:15 pm

Riku smiled at Kalla fondly and withdrew her hand after the orange feline nuzzled her fingers. Content that she had acquainted herself with Satori's friend, the blue haired girl continued to eat and added some nuts and fruit to her bowl once the meat and rice were gone. Though her stomach was already full, Riku wanted to try a few bites of each dish Satori had served since he had taken the time to prepare food for her.

Satori offered more information before Riku could work up the courage to ask, eliciting a bright smile from the girl sitting next to him.

"Is communicating like that something only your clan can do?" Riku picked up a berry and popped it into her mouth. "If possible, I'd like to learn how to talk to your friends. It only seems right to learn how to communicate with them." She reached in her bowl again for more food.

"Really?" Riku looked up at Satori, eyes widened slightly and a light blush on her face. The surprise faded into a genuinely pleased expression when the tall boy confirmed it. "Thank you, Satori-san. I really ah... I'll uh..." the blue haired girl decided to save face by taking another bite of nuts and fruit.

"I like it here. But, it isn't too soon for you to invite me to your home even when I'm not around?" Riku bit her lower lip and squirmed slightly. She didn't feel embarrassed per se, but her face was heating up nonetheless. The blatant trust Satori was showing her had caught her off guard. Even though they'd been hanging out for weeks, a few months even, Riku hadn't expected this level of trust from her friend. It made her happy, but the blue haired girl also felt oddly flustered.

"What I'm thinking?" Riku's face reddened yet again (inwardly, the girl resigned herself to blushing frequently whenever Satori was involved).

"I was kind of comparing your clan to my family a bit. The Ryuutei do things differently and have a lot of interesting traditions. I didn't really understand all of the ones you've told me about at first, like using your relatives' bodies the way you would any other kill, but it made more sense after you explained it."

The blue haired girl shrugged. "I don't have a lot to compare it to, you're the only other clan I've gotten a chance to know beyond the surface. And my family... we're a really small one, barely a clan at all. All our traditions, if you can call them that, are based on keeping our family alive long enough to have and teach future generations. We don't have anything as complicated as this. Kaa-san married a man who was related to the Hozuki to help us survive the Warring Clan eras. A few other cousins did too, but those connections are still pretty weak."

Satori tilted his gaze upward as Riku inquired about the technique, "I don't see why it would be limited to us. It's fairly simple, just utilizing chakra to form a weak telepathic connection to the target." A slight shrug formed from his shoulders before he glanced toward her and offered a smile. "I'll teach it to you some time."

Though this conversation was continued onward she the girl began turning a steady red. A sly smile played at his lips before he lowered his head, butting his forehead lightly against the girls own once more. "Cute." He stated simply at her stuttering blush and uncertainty, "Of course I mean it. I'm hardly the type to lie like that now am I?" As he clarified he watched her try and save face, laughing softly before he rested his chin in his palm.

"I trust you." He stated simply, "I go by my gut instinct, honed by my mind. Logic says you're fine, and even if you weren't, if you were our enemy you'd be walking into a land trying to kill you, down to the very earth you walk and the animals that patrol within it and it's borders." A slight shrug came to his shoulders before his hand lifted, and placed itself on her head as his eyes looked down into her own.

"But even without that, I trust you. You wouldn't do anything to hurt us." He stated it with absolute certainty, not a tinge of hesitation before he would pet and ruffle her hair gently until she responded to his question.

Listening curiously to her answer, Satori allowed a slight smile on his lips to form. "But isn't that fine?" he asked simply, leaning back idly in his chair, his gaze trailing upward. "Your family is really young compared to mine. Hundreds of years ago, before the concept of a clan even existed, we were the same way. We killed and ate everything we could, we honed our fangs to fight for our lives in a savage world. We weren't concerned with why we did what we did, we simply did so in order to ensure our next generation lived." Slowly crimson eyes would lower from the ceiling back down to her, as that gentle smile remained on his lips, so oddly placed against his feral features.

"Your family will become this strong too one day. Maybe even become a part of my clan." Lowering his face toward the girls, a sing-song tone filled his chest. "If I claim you as my wife." He ended the statement with a low hum, smirking before he would straighten. Initially, he had been uncertain about it, but now he was fairly sure. She was intelligent, skilled, had a bloodthirsty streak, was open-minded to other cultures, and had a potent set of knowledge that could only increase. She'd be a fitting wife, and more than that, he just enjoyed her company tremendously. Still, he'd wait to say that, a bit longer for them to be together for now.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:23 pm

Riku relaxed a bit when Satori pet her hair, leaning into his touch. She gazed up at him with affection when the tall boy confirmed his trust in her. Without realizing it, the blue haired girl had begun to scoot closer to the Ryuutei boy --man, she reminded himself, Satori was considered an adult by his clan-- until her side was pressed up against his. The warmth Satori radiated was comforting and made the girl sigh softly.

"Even so, how would I even get to your compound alone? Even if I could find my way through the woods without getting attacked by animals who see me as a trespasser, how would I open the gate?"

By the time he was reassuring her about her clan's relative newness and lack of power, Riku was leaned up against Satori's side comfortably.

She nodded along with his explanation of how being older benefit the Ryuutei clan. "I suppose so. Our clan came to be during the Warring Clan Era. At one point we were under the Senju, but we split ways when Konoha was formed. This is sort of our first time on our own."

At this time, Riku was inhaling the tall young man's scent. It reminded her of the forest they'd walked through to reach the Ryuutei compound. It was subtle, but fresh, like the trees and thick like the smell of dirt. The blue haired girl's eyes were half closed while she drank in Satori's scent and warmth when his face neared hers and he mentioned claiming her as a wife.

Riku let out a short shriek and jumped a bit, startled by Satori's teasing. Her nose bumped into the tall man's chin with the motion. Embarrassed and bright red, the blue haired girl stuttered for a bit.

"But we're so... I... but I thought we were going to wait!" She rubbed her nose, which felt rather tender. Her eyebrow twitched as the poor girl tried not to think too hard about almost kissing Satori on accident. Then, Riku remembered Satori's tone.

"You're teasing me!" she accused, pouting at the young man and crossing her arms. "You shouldn't be so mean to me Satori-san. My head will explode."

Satori grinned wide as the girl jumped out of her skin, her nose hitting his chin as he lifted a hand to gently touch it, making sure she wasn't bleeding as she accused him of teasing and pointed her finger at him. Rumbles of laughter still filling his chest before his hand closed on her head, petting her gently to ease her while the boy shifted and pulled her back to his side. Mostly to help her calm, and partly because a slight blush was decorating his own cheeks and he didn't want her to see as his heart rate increased in his chest. So cute.

Instead of saying he was teasing her, or agreeing on waiting, he would simply continue petting her head. "But you liked the idea, didn't you?" he stated bluntly, carving through her flustered defenses with a hot knife of words before he simply let her lean into his side. Giving her time to calm down, focusing on petting her and nothing else before his gaze lowered to her. Once he was satisfied she'd calmed down, his own heart rate slowly coming to a more natural rhythm as well, he smiled once more.

"As far as getting here, you gave Kalla your scent. The animals won't harm you, and they'll even lead you if you ask for help. They'll understand you, even if they're a bit fickle sometimes. The paths aren't too difficult to learn after a few tries." With this, he would idly trail his fingertips through the girl's hair as he glanced at the finished meal. There was still quite a bit of the pork left but he could easily finish it off himself, and Kalla, now content, blinked at them both once before turning and making his way back up to the flap.

Chuckling softly, he would glance down at the small blue ball of uncertainty. "What do you want to do now? Tour of the house, or the land? Or something specific you want to see that I've mentioned?" Shifting his hand to the side of her head so that she could more easily see him when she looked up, he patiently waited for whatever her decision may be.

Riku glared at Satori, flustered, but let him pull her to his side anyway. He was warm and comfortable and the blue haired girl wasn't incensed enough to deny herself what she wanted. She pressed against the tall boy's side and let him calm her, petting her hair.

In response to the question, Riku grumbled about being too young to know yet and hid her face in the young man's shoulder to avoid saying anything else on the topic. It didn't do much to hide her blush, though. The tips of her ears were red, contrasting with her hair.

She sat back to respond to Satori's assurances that she could make it to the compound safely. "I might visit," Riku told him, "maybe." She cast her gaze over to watch Kalla making his exit.

When the blue haired girl turned to face Satori again, her face was close to its usual complexion. "Now?" Her brows furred a bit and her nose wrinkled in thought. "Ano..."

"Let's go see the land. There's a lot out there and only so much daylight left. Plus I want to meet the rest of your family."

Riku stood and picked up her and Satori's empty bowls before placing the chopsticks inside the stacked dishes. "Should we wash these first? Or um, I can wash them. You cooked."

One of her toes shuffled across the ground, revealing that the girl felt a bit lost.

"I'll wash them," Riku decided a moment later. "Show me how to work the sink." She carried the dishes into the kitchen without waiting for a response. If Satori meant for her to make herself at home, then she would act as if this were her home and help out.

Satori laughed softly as she hid in his chest, petting her hair gently as she did. He didn't tease her any further, letting her mumble about coming to visit while Satori's fingertips trailed through her hair slowly. Once the question was posed and the girl began to uncertainty decide what they wanted to do, he would nod once at her inquiry of "now", before tilting his head and waiting.

"Sounds good to me." Satori allowed a smile to spread across his lips, "I'll show you our lands first. You'll be talking to my mothers for hours if I let you, after all," his tone was teasing, but it was clear he was pleased that she had enjoyed talking to them so much. Straightening a bit as she gathered up the dishes he tilted his head slightly and smiled softly, "Then I'll dry," he stated simply before nodding at her request.

She was lost and insecure, but eventually, she got to the point of stating her choice. It was nice, seeing her make up her mind without his interference or encouragement. A smile decorating his features, he would grab the massive haunch of pork and open his mouth wide. Fangs flashing in the light as the boy tore into the meat, and in a few bites, it was gone, barely even chewed just like a great cat. Unconcerned, he led the way into the kitchen holding the large plate where the food had been while she took the bowls.

The remaining nuts and fruits were carefully placed back into their jar's in the cupboard, and he placed the dirty dishes down into the sink. Standing behind her his hands pointed to each area, showing her how to work the faucet and plug. It was all fairly normal, the only thing that was different was something that he said instead.

"All wastewater is put through a three-stage filter, each one is pumped differently. Physical waste is filtered into the compost, polluted water without physical waste is then put through a final filter that makes it cleanable and gathers in a tank outside. Once it's full, we boil it as a final insurance that it's clean, and pour it back into the well for the house." Smiling a bit he then ruffled his fingertips idly through her hair and grabbed a towel, offering her a cleaning cloth.

"Soap is on the left," the bar was clearly homemade, as it was rough and a simple square without any fancy designs, simply because it wasn't needed. Placing his hands idly on the counter he waited for her, prepared to dry everything off afterward.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:33 pm

Riku relaxed a bit when Satori accepted her taking control of cleanup rather easily. She set the dishes in the sink and added the platters the fruit and nuts and meat had been on after Satori cleared them. She reached for the soap, something she could tell had been made on the compound based on it's rough edges and the fact that the Ryuutei clan was so self sufficient they didn't buy things.

The girl twitched when Satori came to stand behind her. He was so close and... they probably looked like her otou-san and kaa-san used to when he was still...

Riku's hands trembled slightly as she struggled to focus on the tall young man instructing her on how to use the faucets.

"You clean your own water too?" Riku asked, grateful that Satori couldn't see her face. "That's really impressive." She bit her lower lip hard enough to cut it slightly and forced her shoulders to relax.

The blue haired girl turned the water on and began to lather the cloth. She turned the water off afterwards, not wanting to waste it and began to scrub at the dishes. Her grip on the cleaning cloth was tighter than necessary, but the bubbles from the soap hid the way her knuckles paled.

Once the initial waves of grief passed, Riku had barely spent any time thinking about her father, or at least, any more beyond passing thoughts or stories about things he'd done. She rarely acknowledged the pain of his absence. The blue haired girl had been too desperate to support her family in his place, to make life easier for her mother, to help her younger sister heal emotionally. There had been no time to take apart her own feelings, or rather, no time when Riku had been willing to do so.

Now, the pain resurfaced, making Riku's eyes watery. She kept her head tilted so that her hair obscured her face somewhat. If Satori asked her what was wrong, she would surely cry.

Riku didn't have time to cry. She needed to get stronger as quickly as possible.

A stab of guilt made the blue haired girl's stomach twist. What was she doing here? How could she go and enjoy herself with friends when things were worn down in her own home? Sure, Satori brought gifts, but it was ultimately Riku's responsibility to pull them into better economic standing overall. Did Riku really have time to make friends? Was she getting to complacent just because her mother had gotten used to their conditions?

Riku blinked the tears away and noticed that the dishes had been clean for a while.

"Oh," she said softly. "They're spotless."

Numbly, she turned the water back on and began to rinse each dish and hand it to Satori before rinsing the cloth and wringing it out.

"We should get the counters, too," Riku noted, sounding a bit too far away. "Should we use the same cloth or is there another one?"

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Satori Ryuutei on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:34 pm

Satori wasn't an idiot. The boy watched as she drifted into sadness and frustration. But he didn't interfere just yet, waiting to see if she would sort through it on her own first, giving her the chance to try and fight her own demons with her own strength. However, as time passed and it became increasingly obvious that wasn't the case when she finally handed him the clean dishes, he wordlessly set them down, and as she mumbled about the counters she'd feel two large arms slowly wrap around her.

Turning her to face him, he glanced down at her for a brief moment, before his hand slid into her hair and pulled her against him. His fingertips trailing through her hair slowly as he would idly look out the window, his free arm wrapped around her lithe body.

"It's alright to be sad, you know." The words were simple, doing his best not to force anything on her, but at the same time he could tell that she needed something. She was the elder sibling, the one that always had to put up a strong front, the one that had to take the responsibility the adults in her household couldn't manage. He knew how that felt, all too well. He had his suspicions on who she had lost, and though he still had his own, he had seen many members of his family fall already.

It was the way of life. Death was nothing more than another aspect of it, but he knew most children his age struggled with that concept. Struggled to deal with the pain left over from it. Riku had lost someone dear to her, to her entire family. He had no way of knowing for certain if it was who he thought it was, or not, but that much he could tell for certain. He could also tell, she likely hadn't had much time, if any, to grieve on her own. Always maintaining a strong facade to protect her sister, her mother, her family.

So that was all he could offer her, and as his fingers continued to gently trail through her hair, caressing her as he had so many times now, his gaze softened. "It's alright to cry, Riku-chan." As he murmured this, holding her, his tone was gentle. Unjudging, unbiased, a statement of fact tinged with compassion and a desire to help ease her heart. However small it may be, the girl had become his first friend outside of his clan, outside of his family. She was important to him, and by extension, so was her family and all their feelings.

He would do what he could for them, and if this interaction led to her spilling her heart and crying into him, then that was fine. He would never judge her for being human, death was part of life, but so was mourning a loss, and that was what the girl had yet to do. Perhaps, even if it was just in a small way, he could help her.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:35 pm

Riku didn't look up at Satori when he took her by the shoulders and gently made her face him --didn't need to really, because his fingers threaded through her hair and pulled her head to his stomach. The blue haired girl felt his other arm secure her against his body while the first kept stroking her head. Riku tensed.

When he told her it was alright to be sad, she caved, shoulders shaking as she started to cry. Riku pressed her face into the mesh of Satori's shirt, salty tears soaking the fabric easily. After a few moments of sobbing into the tall boy's torso, her hands came up to clench his shirt. Her throat ached and her head began to throb, but the sobs continued to wrack her small frame, leaving Riku powerless to stop it.

Eventually, the tears waned and the blue haired girl sniffled thickly, struggling to breathe through the sudden congestion.

"I'm sorry." Riku's voice was slightly hoarse. "I tried n-not to but it just reminds me of...." her throat tightened painfully. The girl pressed closer, tremors traveling down her spine and radiating through her shoulders.

She flattened herself against Satori, pressing as close as she possibly could, burrowing into his embrace. Riku stayed there while her breathing slowed and the last of her tears dried. She didn't want to look up at Satori while she was still a mess.

When she finally pulled back, there was a bit of resistance because her semi-dried tears had adhered her face to the tall young man's torso. Pink lines criss-crossed her face from where the mesh had pressed into the skin and her eyes were a bit red and puffy.

Glassy brown eyes finally lifted to meet Satori's expression.

"Can we walk around the compound for a bit now?" Riku requested in a small voice, lower lip quivering slightly.

Her hands hung from his shirt, still fisted in the fabric, and the blue haired girl had only leaned back just enough to look up at him. She clearly wasn't quite ready to let him go, but Riku was done crying for now.

Riku used the sleeve of her yukata to wipe her face off a bit and ran a hand over her hair to smooth it. Despite the obvious signs of having been distressed, she had clearly calmed down now.

"Thank you, Satori-kun," she added softly, smiling a bit at him.

Through her tears, Satori held her quietly. Continuing to gently pet her as time ticked away, not rushing her in any way as he simply waited for the tremors to stop passing through her body. Finally, when she managed to straighten, Satori gently caught her hand before she could wipe her face on the clothing.

"No reason to get something pretty dirty," he stated simply, gently using the cloth he'd intended to dry with to wipe her eyes gently before offering it to her to blow her nose and wipe her face more actively as he continued to pet her head with his free hand. Once she was finally settled, he would offer a brief smile at her request and nod once.

"Of course," he stated simply, reaching down and accepting the used rag, tossing it into the next room with a soft thump of it landing in a basket. "Let me change, it'll only be a moment, I promise," petting her head gently to encourage her to release him for a moment, he turned and started walking toward the bedroom, lifting the shirt up from his waist as he went revealing his tanned hide covered in scar tissue of a variety of forms decorating his body. Tossing the shirt after the cloth and stepping into the hallway, and then the bedroom connecting it.

Shuffling a dresser open and tugging out a simple black T-shirt before pulling it over his head and re-entering the kitchen. Taking her hand gently in his own once more and leading the way toward the exit, opening it for her and stepping out after. Maintaining his gentle grip on her hand as he finally addressed her thanks with a slow release of breath.

"You're welcome, and you never need to apologize for crying, Riku," he murmured to her firmly, looking down at her with surprising intensity at the last statement as his hand gently ruffled the hair she'd fixed with a small smile.

"What do you want to see first? The farms, the forest, or the village?" His eyes trailed along the three different directions with no preference of his own, though, he did offer a logical opinion. "The farmland is the furthest out, so we could start there, shift into the forest and make our way back to the village so you can meet my family at the end?" Glancing down at her curiously, he was content to let her decide what she wanted to see first in the end, however.

Riku accepted the cloth gratefully and used it to dry the rest of her tears and blow her nose, leaving it a bit red. She gave a reluctant nod to let Satori know she would let him go and change, uncurling the fingers of her hand from his now damp shirt. Before Riku could ask what to do with the dirty cloth, the tall boy had liberated it from her hands and was already pulling his shirt over his head.

The mesh shirt hadn't hidden much to begin with, but its absence still made Riku avert her eyes politely, a light flush restoring her complexion from the unusual pale cast it had taken on. Despite looking away, the blue haired girl had still managed to catch a glimpse of Satori's scars. They were likely from his clan's harsh training methods. Riku wondered if the young man was proud of them, if he wore his scars like badges of pride for all he had endured and the hard work he had done.

The soft sound of Satori's steps alerted Riku to his return, prompting her to look up. She let Satori lead her out of the kitchen, lagging just a bit behind his bigger steps.

The way he looked at her so seriously when telling her not to apologize for crying made Riku shift around a bit, looking a bit unsure of herself. The tightening of her hand around Satori's larger one let the tall boy know she understood him. The uncertain expression on Riku's face vanished quickly though, replaced by a pout when he messed up her hair.

"Hey!" Riku glared weakly and smoothed her hair down once more. "I just fixed that." There was no heat to the dirty look the blue haired girl gave Satori nor in the annoyed tone of her voice.

"Let's look at the farms first, then," the girl agreed easily. Though she could have asked for something different, Satori's suggestion made the most sense. That, and the prospect of seeing plants was an exciting one for Riku.

"My family works mostly with medicinal plants and herbs. I haven't studied plants grown primarily for daily food as much." Her pace quickened, urging Satori to walk faster.

"I want to see the farm before it's completely dark. I knew I should have brought my notebook with me."

As the girl hugged him and looked up at him so uncertain about his statement regarding crying, he smiled gently. It was clear that she wasn't sure how to handle such direct statements, but that was good. It meant that his point was made, and she seemed to accept it well enough, with his goal met he allowed his expression to melt back into relaxed features as he pet her head gently while she tried to fix her ruffled waves of blue.

Satori chuckled at her pout, however, he moved along easily enough with the girl as she took off toward the farmlands, laughing at the small girl tugging him along so eagerly. Stepping forward a bit faster to keep up with her he would smile gently at her comment on the notebook.

"You can come by any time to learn you know, Riku-chan," he stated simply in response but didn't argue with her as they moved forward. As they wound their way through the stone paths heading toward the main farms he would halt them briefly to give a brief overview of the multitude of fields decorating the grounds.

"Rice, Daikon, Beets, Carrots, Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Squash are this rotation. We shift their locations and the kinds we grow based on the current level of nutrients in the field at the time." Stone irrigation canals decorated every field evenly, some open and some closed.

"They get watered at different times, based on what they are. Some take better to the water midday, others need it before the sun rises in the early morning, and some best set overnight with the water constantly soaking them until the sun rises." Meandering forward with her, he'd take her to the first field where several Ryuutei were finishing up for the day, closing some of the irrigation canals, finishing shoveling in the delivered compost, and so forth.

"We share the compost we gather, we're allowed to take about half of what we make for our personal gardens, and the rest is accumulated here and in the greenhouses back in the village to serve the entire clan." Glancing down at her, he would tilt his head a bit. "My garden was on the other side of the house, huh, so you didn't get to see it," pondering this briefly and making a mental note to show her later he would shrug and glance down at her.

"What do you want to see up close? I'll show you the paths you need to take so the fields aren't damaged." Smiling gently, he didn't comment on questions, at this point he thought it was fairly obvious that the girl knew she could ask as many questions as she wished and he wouldn't mind in the slightest.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:41 pm

Riku listened avidly as the tall young man pointed out the different crops they were cultivating and talked about their rotations. "What order are they in the rotation? Is it based on which plants add to and take away from the soil?"

She bounced on her toes slightly as Satori offered to take her closer to get a better look.

"Can we get a closer look at the squash?" Riku tugged him along until they were right next to the plot of farmland. She waited for Satori to guide her closer to the plants in mind and then knelt to examine the leaves and vines. Gently, the blue haired girl ran a finger over the fuzzy spines on the plant, noting the slight sting.

"What kind of squash are these? Can I have a leaf to add to my collection? What time of day do these get watered?"

Riku patted the soil around the squash to get a feel for how much moisture they liked. "How much do you water them?"

When Satori mentioned the compost again, Riku smiled. "Kaa-san and Anzu-oba-san also like to compost. Tsughi-imouto-chan has a worm farm that she gives her scraps to. She really likes bugs."

"Oh, speaking of bugs, how do you keep pests out of the farms? Like aphids and moths and butterflies. Well, not so much the moths and butterflies as their babies."

"How long does it take to weed the farmland? Who does the gardening?"

The onslaught of questions continued for several minutes, the blue haired girl coming up with another detail to ask about as soon as Satori answered or explained the last. Finally, when the girl seemed to notice how dark it was, she nodded resolutely.

"I guess that can be enough for today, but only because I can come back another time. Let's go see what little bit of the compound we can with the daylight that's left."

The sun had mostly disappeared into the treeline, leaving the sky a deep red fading into purples and blues. Riku had spent the better part of half an hour interrogating her tall friend about his family's farm. With a chuckle, Satori lead her back out from between the rows of crops and guided her back towards the rest of the clan compound, his larger hand engulfing Riku's smaller one.

Even in the fading light, the joy and enthusiasm on Riku's face glowed.

The bombardment of questions wasn't unexpected in any way, and a soft chuckle left his lips while he answered each one as they came.

"We rotate the crops based on the nutrients they take out, and put into the soil. For instance, squash takes quite a bit more nutrients then leaf based plants, so do tomatoes. So if we just had squash in a field, we'll then rotate it into becoming daikon or something similar for the next season to give the soil time to properly integrate the fertilizers and improve crops." As he explained this, Satori would then lead the way through the fields casually, following small stones that were placed at the corners of slighter wider pathways.

It was a bit cramped, but he placed her in front of him so that they could move fairly easily until they reached the main plants. Her request to take a leaf caused him to nod once, raising a hand and cutting it with a claw. "Never just pluck a leaf though. It's a bit like a wound on a human body, if you get a cut, its a lot easier to heal then a tear in your flesh. You can bruise the connective tissue of the plant by twisting and tugging. It's better to cleanly cut it off unless its the final harvest and the plant is going to die shortly anyway." With this, he would offer her the leaf, and as she stuck her hands into the dirt she'd find the soil moist but clearly not having just been watered.

"Squash of all sorts, as well as berries-- including tomatoes, prefer it when you water them just before the sun rises, and they tend to take an excessive amount of liquid compared to other plants due to the nature of their fruits. How much varies on the sub-species. These are Kabocha, so they require about three inches of water a week, their squash won't be ready until near the end of fall, all squash are generally winter squash." As he explained this he would rest his hands idly on his knee's, leaning down with a smirk.

"But if you're smart you don't just give the plant an inch of water every few days or something like most people do. You give it a large feeding from the start, about an inch and a half, and then the remaining water you divide up evenly over the days to keep the soil moist. It encourages the plant to sense safe growing conditions and can jumpstart them based on the species." As the girl mentioned worms, Satori chuckled and nodded his head slightly.

"They're excellent to have in your garden, compost is key as well. Too many nutrients to just waste. We have a variety of worms we have in the compost garden, they breed there and are put into the soil with the compost between field rotations." Glancing down at the girl as she commented on weeding, and keeping insecticides out, Satori smiled lightly.

"We cheat," he explained idly, before straightening and tugging her up gently before raising a hand and pointing at a nearby post which held what appeared to be a stone at its top engraved in seals.

"Go sniff," he instructed simply, and once she grew near the reasoning would become obvious-- an incredibly heavy scent of cedar would fill her nose and the surrounding areas. "We have these placed throughout the farm, especially along the edges. We also line the top of the soil with mulch from any leftover cedar wood we have." He pointed down, as it wasn't immediately obvious due to it having been mixed in with the soil, but it was there if one dug about an inch into the dirt.

"Most insects despise cedar oil. It's not quite toxic but it can kill them if there's too much, generally, it doesn't come to that, however. They just avoid it like the plague, especially since we tend to mix in a few drops of cedar oil into the water for the plants themselves, and use it in a spray for them once a month." Tucking his hands idly into his pockets he grinned, "There are other methods too, if we run out of cedar, after all, we don't have an infinite supply and cutting down the tree's too young is idiotic, but that's the most common method." Stepping forward from this point, he would continue with the next question.

"Weeding is minimal. A basic earth jutsu to sense unnatural motions and a stomp to send them all out of the ground at once is all it takes. Similarly, since so much of the process is assisted by Fuuinjutsu, we only have five farmers total-- and they're volunteers, we don't even technically need them, but it's nice to have." Nodding to the surroundings great fields, it would become apparent that the fields were actually quite empty, only three others beyond themselves walked the plants, and they were only doing general health checks on every few they encountered.

"As far as pests, the cats, and the killing intent tends to keep most of them away without issue. Sometimes we may lose a plant but it's incredibly rare." With this, the next round of questions began, and laughing softly under his breath Satori gave a response every time without hesitation. He enjoyed the curiosity, and he enjoyed helping her learn more about their way of life that generally people were so insecure of, or too lazy to uphold actively.

When she was finally content enough to leave, Satori would simply accept the hand offered to him and take her back toward the compound with an amused smile. Her smile was nice-- an earnest, excited smile he couldn't turn down in any way. Raising a hand to pet the girls head, Satori led the way back home casually with his gaze lifting upward toward the darkening sky. Clear and deep blue steadily darkening with swirls of grey, an amused smile played on his lips before he halted in the village center and glanced down at her.

"Want to meet my family, then?" he inquired simply, petting the girl's hair gently as he pulled her head lightly against his stomach so she could relax a bit. He was glad he'd managed to cheer her up after her crying, it was nice to see he could do something for her.

Post by Riku on Fri Apr 05, 2019 11:06 pm

"You cheat?" Riku tilted her head to the side, indicating curiosity. The next instructions made Satori's initial answer more clear. A few sniffs revealed that they used cedar oil. The tall boy confirmed her guess and explained how they used it to keep the pests away.

"Kaa-san and Anzu-oba-san's gardens are similar. They're a lot smaller than this so we weed them by hand, well Tsughi and I do. Maybe cedar oil could give us more time to spend on making medicinal products. We don't have any cedar trees, though. Do you think we could use fuinjutsu to imitate the scent and drive bugs away from our greenhouses and outdoor gardens?"

Riku's curiosity was nearly boundless, it seemed.

She listened to Satori's response about her request to take a leaf. "Kaa-san taught me something similar," she told the tall young man with a confirming nod. She accepted the leaf he offered her with a smile and tucked it into a pocket sewn inside of her yukata.

"I really like how self-sufficient your clan's farming systems are, though I do prefer to be a little more hands on with my plants. I enjoy working with them and caring for them by hand sometimes. It's relaxing. Is that how the volunteer farmers feel? I know that I won't have as much time to work in the greenhouses when I become a genin, so I'll have to start finding solutions soon. I don't want to leave extra work for Anzu-oba-san, Kaa-san, and Tsughi-chan."

Then, the girl summoned chakra to her hands to coat them with water and rubbed them together to wash off the dirt. She let the water fall between rows of plants so that the extra moisture wouldn't be too close to the roots. Riku wiped her damp hands dry on her yukata before offering Satori her hand.

"I'm ready to go see them. It will be exciting to meet your other mothers. I really liked Chuya-san and Hanako-san."

Riku walked carefully as Satori lead her out of the plot of farmland, making sure to follow his steps so she wouldn't damage any of the plants. Once they were out of the rows of crops, the blue haired girl made her way to Satori's side and stayed close enough to feel his warmth while they wandered the stone pathways towards the house of Satori's family.

"Will Serena-chan, Saika-chan, and Hiyori-chan get their own houses at some point as well?" Riku questioned, leaning her head against Satori's arm.

Riku tilted her head back so she could watch the stars slowly starting to become visible in the sky. She sighed contentedly at the sight.

"Can we do more night time walks here? I like it," the blue haired girl asked softly as they neared their destination.

The lighting from each of the homes cast the clan compound in a flickering glow that charmed Riku. The atmosphere made her want to wander the stone pathways hand in hand with Satori. The thought of it brought a soft smile to her face.

Post by Satori Ryuutei on Sat Apr 06, 2019 3:42 am

Satori contemplated her question, "Well, we take cedar oil and seal it into the stones. It's a pretty basic seal, I think they teach it at the Academy in classes. No reason you couldn't use one or two to release the scent slowly. You could ask around at local woodworkers too, often they have a lot of wood chips that they don't want at all, and cedar is pretty common for furniture and housing. Often they'll be happy to dump it on you, or sell it to you dirt cheap. Since your garden is much smaller you wouldn't need nearly as much as we do." Smiling lightly at her compliment to them being self-sufficient, Satori nodded once in agreement.

"We're the first line of defense. We're supposed to be the ones the village relies on, not the other way around, and our teachings and traditions are a big part of why that is." He left out the other reason, the simple fact that the village likely didn't want anyone that had cannibalistic traditions to close to the common populace.

"If you want some tricks just ask, I don't mind giving a few ideas. I think we can get together and make a few things easier on them, plus, my mothers offer is going to likely help your family out a bit as well." Meandering forward with her in his arm, he nodded at her meeting his other two mothers, chuckling before shifting his gaze to the sky once more as she inquired about his sisters.

"When they've become full clan members and joined the village council, yeah," he answered idly, raising a hand to point at the piercings decorating his face. "These signify that, and you get them after you pass the second trial." As he stated this idly, he would glance down when she sighed and requested them to walk around more at night. Satori grinned lightly, amused at the soft smile and innocent request before he nodded once.

"I don't have an issue with that at all," he replied simply, slowing their steps to enjoy the night air for a bit for now. Glancing toward the lights and idly halting a moment. "In fact, c'mere," he murmured this and would gently pull the girl along, heading back toward the direction of his home until they reached it. Then, without a word, he would lower himself and scoop her up into his arms before casually walking up the side of the two-story building.

His home was built slightly into and on top of a hill. Providing extra height and furthering the view even more so that as he settled down, sitting on the roof with her in his lap he was able to grin at her and raise a hand to point out around them.

"They can wait a bit. Let's look at the stars. You don't really get to back in the Village center, even from your roof, right?" Glancing down at her as the sky continued to darken, more and more brilliant golden lights filling the sky as he rested his cheek gently on top of her head.

The Beasts of the Mist [Private] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Beasts of the Mist [Private]

"Free or dirt cheap?" Riku rubbed her chin thoughtfully with her free hand. "I didn't realize..."

Then Satori offered to work with her on a slow release seal. "I'd like that. We can work on it together. The time it takes to use the chips to extract oil will be long enough for us to figure something out." The blue haired girl grinned up at Satori, excited about working on a project.

She enjoyed making things from plants and plant materials in general; the idea of being able to share that part of her life with another person made her feel warmth in her chest. Satori's willingness to help her was exciting, but it also made Riku wonder what she could do for the tall man in return.

"You're on the council, Satori-kun?" Riku's eyes widened, impressed. "You really are an adult here." And she was still a child.

The blue haired girl looked away. How could she still be so childish when this kid her age was considered a man by his clan's standards and was a contributing member of the group? Then, Riku remembered Satori's offer to teach her. Maybe he could help her become an adult, too. Then, Riku could support her family more.

"I'm glad your mothers want to help us..." Riku paused, head tilting to the side a bit, "why are you guys so eager to help us? We only have so much to offer in return."

The blue haired girl stepped closer when Satori told her to come here and squeaked in surprise when he scooped her up in his arms. Her face darkened with a heavy blush at being in the man's arms, but Riku didn't protest.

She had spent so much time trying to be strong and do things by herself that being cared for, scooped up, and rescued felt nice. Riku wondered if Satori would also like being taken care of as well. The blue haired girl settled into the young man's lap and leaned back against his chest so she could see the stars.

"No, they don't show up very well in the middle of Kiri. That's one of the things I miss about my old home, the stars." Riku shifted onto her side and tilted her head back so she could look up at Satori.

"Satori-kun... is it okay if I take care of you too?" The blush intensified, her whole body heating up. Riku reached up to touch his face softly.

Satori blinked and glanced down at her as she asked about the council, "Ah, yeah. There are twenty-five seats, not including the clan head and the elder. The more responsibilities and ranking you have in the clan the higher your seat. I'm only the twenty-fourth, no one special." Ignoring the fact most of the other members were around the age of sixteen at the least for the lowest ranks to eighty, at least for the higher ranks beside a few spare middle-aged higher-ups like his parents.

Still, at her second inquiry regarding helping them, he blinked and glanced down at her. "Because to us, a family is more important than anything else. I asked them to help, and so they did." It was that simple, and as he raised his gaze up he shrugged slightly.

"It's not like we get nothing from the deal anyway. Another branch to connect us to the village, and I get a future wife," his tone was teasing like a song as he smirked down at the girl. Of course, this amplified the girl's squeaks, even more, when he scooped her up, and the crimson flush made him smirk even wider into a full grin once they'd settled down into their position. His hand petting her head lightly while his gaze trailed over the sky slowly, eyes softening as she commented on the stars.

"Then all the more reason to have you come here more often," Satori stated simply, before blinking as he felt the small girl stir in his lap, turning to look up at him as she reached up for his face. Blinking a few moments at the heat radiating off the girls face, a slight smile formed on his lips as his hand lifted. Gently petting her hair before his face lowered to her own, and the soft sensation of his lips pressing to her forehead gently echoed through both of them.

She was too cute, and he felt a slight flush adorning his face along with his smile before he tilted his head a bit. "If you like," he responded to her question simply, showing he didn't mind the idea at all as his eyes softened. "I'm a handful though, you know." He added as a playful warning as his forehead gently pressed against her own once more, the same show of affection as before as his feline eyes stared into the girls own.

"You did...?" Riku's eyes started to water. Then, she was ensconced in Satori's arms and pressed up against his chest and they were looking at the stars.

The warmth reached the tips of the blue haired girl's ears when he told her she had even more reason to come to his compound. This boy, this man, truly wanted her around. Riku didn't quite know how to explain how that felt.

She stroked his face while the tall boy told her he could be a handful and pressed his mouth to her forehead. Riku turned impossibly red as Satori pressed his forehead to hers. Riku noticed the pink hue to his face, it was hard to see, and might have been a trick of the light, but his face was warm too. The girl leaned in and rubbed her nose against his.

"I think I want to take care of you." She wrapped her arms around Satori's neck, her cheek pressing against his.

The tall young man could feel dampness on his skin as Riku started to cry again.

"You just started taking care of me and," a sniffle interrupted her, "I didn't even ask you to or do anything special and yet you..." the blue haired girl buried her face in his neck.

Riku wasn't ready to put words to her thoughts, not yet, but Satori seemed willing to wait for her. It had taken months of time together for the blue haired girl to come even this far, to the point where she could be vulnerable in front of Satori. The tall boy had defended her when no one else had, gone out of his way to spend time with her, and brought her countless gifts to show how happy he was to be allowed in her home.

    Riku's shuddered lightly.

Perhaps this had been a long time coming; she was bound to get emotional from someone being so inexplicably kind to her and liking her for no reason except that she was Riku. Even so, her throat tightened painfully, too much for her to even have a chance at explaining it.

Riku was touched, and yet she felt like she didn't deserve any of this. How could she put that into words?

After what felt like an eternity, the blue haired girl calmed enough to notice Satori's arms wrapped around her and his hand caressing the top of her head. Riku snuggled closer to the warmth of the man holding her and her breathing calmed.

Finally, she looked up from where she'd been hiding her face in the crook of Satori's neck and said, "let's go inside now. I'm sure your mothers are wondering when we are going to see them."
