Unique Abilities:
- Crafting Expertise: A player may craft an item one rank higher than what their current experience or skill set allows. This can result in a 50% increase in price for material.
- Chemistry Expertise: A player may create chemistry creations one rank higher than what their current experience or skill set allows. This can result in an increased countdown (for poisons and drugs) or cooldown (for medicines and provisions.) The increase is the next rank's timer increased by .5 (rounding up.)
- Portable Shop: A player may invest a sum of money and expect returns to a maximum of 5% per month. The player must roll a 1d10 to determine the outcome of the success. An outcome of 6-10 means that the investment failed and all of the money is lost, but an outcome of 1-5 means a successful investment and 5% of that money is paid to her once per month, permanently.
- Good Spending: A player may have a permanent 50% discount within their village regarding buying tools or raw materials, but never both without an appropriate drawback. I'll take a reduction for the cost of raw materials.
- Information Expert: Kanbaru has spent years keeping her ears to the streets, and as such, has piled up an exceptional amount of knowledge on all types of happenings within the village and in the general world -- whether it be about the personal lives of others or to more important matters, if you want information, Kanbaru is your best bet.
- Relationships Are Overrated: You don't get to know every inch of other's personal matters without a few betrayals and selling out. She has an incredibly hard time forming loyal relationships. Those who wish to befriend her must submit to the fact that information about their personal lives will be subject to purchase through Kanbaru.

History:
Born on the morning of the hottest summer in years, Kanbaru had been blessed from the moment she was born. Her mother proudly proclaimed that God himself was smiling upon her birth as reasoning for the blistering heat, much to the chagrin of her other present family members. Though their child was born a girl, Kanbaru's parents had exceptionally high expectations for their daughter. They didn't want to raise a woman who stayed at home waiting for her husband and raising kids. On the contrary, they wanted their daughter to have her own independent, fulfilling life in which she could truly stand on her own as an individual. As a result of these expectations, Kanbaru was bombarded with worldly education from the moment she learned how to read. She spent much of her early years constantly hounded by a multitude of different private tutors, specialists in all different types of professions. Kanbaru's parents weren't concerned with what their daughter would one day want to do with her life, they just wanted her to be someone worthy of maximum respect, an individual others would talk about in high esteem. Luckily for them, Kanbaru was quick learner. She was like a sponge, absorbing information left and right with seemingly no limit.
As Kanbaru grew older, the topics of interest that garnered her interest continued to grow. History, Chemistry, Politics, etc. She loved all types of subjects. Her parents were secretly ecstatic that their only daughter did not want to take up the path of combat. Instead, she surrounded herself endlessly with books. At about the age of fourteen, Kanbaru's interests began to narrow. She wanted not only to learn about things, but to create them as well. She wanted to be a person capable of bringing a smile to the face of others with things she created. In order to fulfill this adolescent dream of hers, she began to pin her focus on the science behind the creation and application of tools, chemistry, and medicine. Her parents were all too willing to aid their daughter in the pursuit of her dreams, allowing her to study under professionals in the fields of blacksmithing, chemistry, and medicine -- a wide array of skills, no doubt. Much like her brain had accepted all of the knowledge contained within the books she loved to read, it continued to accept the practices required to perform her dream at elite levels. She rose in ability at an exceptional rate, quickly becoming known throughout the village.
Now twenty years old, Kanbaru has become a common name throughout Kumogakure. Thanks to her elite ability in such a vast range of skills and her contributions to both the village and its citizens, she earned the shinobi rank of Jounin -- one of the few to earn such a title without ever witnessing combat. Her skills were simply too grand to ignore and her value as an asset to the village was undeniable, so it was in their best interest to shower her with as much acclaim as possible in order to maintain her always-wavering loyalty. In return, Kanbaru continues to lead fields of research and development for the village, using the near unlimited access granted to her by the Jounin rank to gain access to knowledge that is usually not privy to the minds of common doctors and blacksmiths. As of today, Kanbaru remains one of the go-to individual for needs relating to weapon making, armor smithing, medicine, or chemistry -- not only in Kumogakure, but in the world. Uninterested with matters outside of her work and hobbies, Kanbaru pays little mind in advancing in the field of relationships, spending most of her time surrounded by clients or mountains of paper work. While her mother has recently become obsessed with the thought of grandchildren, Kanbaru continues to ignore most matters relating to the heart. Still, with so much of her prime years remaining, it's only a matter of time before she begins to expand her circle of friends.
Personality:
Kanbaru is a typically serious individual when it comes to her work. She remains absolutely focused, committed to performing at the height of her abilities at all times. She constantly strives to improve her skills and as such she must attack every moment of her profession with absolute seriousness. However, when she's not working, she's completely different. A known prankster and overall jokey person, Kanbaru spends a lot of time messing with people. This extends onto her gambling habits, where she will typically make fun of her "opponents" at the table and play tricks on them.
Usually far removed from real connections to others, Kanbaru spends a lot of her time in secluded areas -- whether this be in a remote part of the village or in her own home. She's usually putting in extra work hours, researching, reading, or simply just thinking about miscellaneous things, like inventions unable to exist due to technological limitations. On the off chance that she is confronted with someone who shares her interests, Kanbaru will typically spiral into an endless rant about her most recent thoughts regarding the subject.
Despite her high level of intelligence across a wide variety of topics, Kanbaru will sometimes "play dumb" as a way of teasing others. It brings her joy to see others scramble to impress her, spouting on about topics that they have remedial knowledge of with utmost confidence due to her charade. She doubly enjoys playing this trick on men who approach her with obvious romantic intentions.

Small excerpt from the beginning of a book I've been working on:
- Spoiler:
- Prologue
It wasn’t always like this. The streets of our home, the Kingdom of Silver, used to bustle with the sounds of people day in and day out. The distant laughs of children used to reverberate across the stone walls, creating an atmosphere of joy and wonder. Communities would enjoy life together, creating and sharing memories that would give us reason to continue waking up in the morning. We loved our home, our king, and our neighbors. There was little concern over economics and hardly ever any conflict, be it inside the kingdom or from outside sources. The Kingdom of Silver, for all intents and purposes, was a paradise rivaling Eden. We had convinced ourselves that this happiness would never end. For all eternity, we’d live our lives consumed by joy and blessed with all good natured things. The struggle that awaited us was far beyond the conception of even the kingdom’s most talented fortune tellers, witches, artists, and the like.
I’ll never forget the day that it showed up. A giant sphere, large enough to cover the entire sky, hurtled its way towards the Earth. As it got closer, it became engulfed in bright, scorching flames. It was as if the Sun itself had decided to collapse onto its neighbor. Panic embraced the Kingdom of Silver, consuming every square inch of it. Nobody knew when contact would be made, but the slow rate at which it approached us only served to spawn more fear within the hearts of its citizens.
My father, a Cartographer by trade and a God fearing citizen by heart, served as my only anchor in this new society. Long ago, back before I was born, he had set out on an expedition that would serve as a new landmark for human ingenuity. He and his team of scholars set out to map the known world, charting the most efficient routes to what most measured as approximately a third of the planet. It was incredibly detailed, rivaling anything that had come before it in terms of accuracy, quality, and quantity. He would often tell me stories that sounded absolutely fantastical. Tales of underwater cities occupied by fishmen, a kingdom of ogres atop snow covered mountains, and an isolationist civilization with technology unlike anything he had ever seen were just some of the highlights that filled the stories of his adventure. His good fortune in being able to experience everything the world had to offer had blessed him with an unnerving calmness in the face of all sorts of situations. This was no different. He assured my mother and I that we’d somehow get through the foreboding future that awaited not only our kingdom, but the rest of the Earth.Chapter 1
The impact of the meteor was far beyond what we had anticipated. The second it touched the ground hundreds of miles away and delivered its initial impact, we knew that the world as we knew it would be forever altered — if anyone was lucky enough to even survive and experience it. To the east, massive waves could be seen steadily making their way towards the shoreline of our kingdom, threatening to submerge it entirely. To the west, usually dormant volcanoes emitted a spew of lava and ash so enormous that it covered the entirety of our sky, making it impossible for those of the Kingdom of Silver to see even a single beam of sunlight. A terrible darkness had enveloped our reality, both literally and metaphorically. The panic that ensued filled the stone streets with shrieks of terror, the sound of fear reverberating throughout the kingdom. My family — my father, mother, and myself — were huddled within our homes, doing all we could to shield ourselves from the Hell that had been born on the outside.
“It’ll be alright,” whispered my father; a tall, burly man with a beard that told of endless wisdom. I could feel my mother shaking, her teeth rattling as she was incapable of containing her emotions. I didn’t know how to feel. My entire reality had effectively crumbled. A piece of me hoped that once I stepped outside, I’d be confronted with the same view I always had been, but I knew how foolish I was being. If the meteor itself hadn’t taken weeks to get here I’d question my own sanity, possibly even chalking up this current situation to a dream or fit of hysteria. However, the time between the meteor’s appearance and its impact had given me, and everyone else, more than enough time to comprehend what was happening.
Hours that seemed like a century each passed, the sound of destruction refusing to quell. I looked around my home as I had done hundreds — no, thousands — of times. Still, in this moment, everything seemed different. I found a certain comfort within the dusty, wooden walls that had kept me and my family safe all these years. My father’s various accomplishments hung across the wall to my right. These certificates and letters from the king were proof of his ability and they inspired me each and every day. My eyes focused upon one particular frame, a rose gold rectangle that held a poor recreation of the map he had worked so hard to create. This cheap imitation served only as a trophy, as the real map, massive in size, was held in King Gerald’s war room. I had only seen it once before, but its beauty was completely encapsulating. For a second, my mind wandered to a place far from our horrific reality. I dreamed of a future where I had the opportunity to take after my father, becoming a cartographer worthy of bearing his name. Silently, I shook my head and washed away this foolish dream. After today, we’d be lucky to have a future at all, let alone one as pleasant as that. My father, likely sensing my thoughts as he had a nasty habit of doing, braced his arm tightly against my shoulder the same way he had done countless times to comfort me in times of stress. Like a snow white handkerchief, he had wiped away all fear and darkness within me.
King Gerald and the military commander, Captain Artwold, had spent the weeks leading up to the impact exchanging security protocol with a nearby kingdom — the Kingdom of Gold. It was decided that after the impact, survivors of our own kingdom would make the trek to the Kingdom of Gold and seek refuge there as they were likely to be in a better state than ourselves due to the size, defenses, and overall preparedness of their kingdom in case of emergency. In return, my father (should he survive) would not only recreate the map of the known world he had already created, but he would embark on a new journey to map out the remaining areas under the flag of the Kingdom of Gold. This was a hard bargain for a kingdom who had gained comfort and notoriety due to being the only nation with a map of its quality, but the well being of its people came before anything. Surely, the King was prepared to give up at least that much for the safety of his citizens.
