Ota's Beach Problem [Solo] Empty Ota's Beach Problem [Solo]

Post by Satori Ryuutei Wed Apr 10, 2019 10:13 am

Mission Name: Clean up the Beach!
    Mission Type: Chore
    Mission Rank: D
Mission Goal: Clean the trash and other unpleasantries off the beach in Ota
Description: Ota recently had a bad storm hit and a few trade ships were destroyed in it. Now that the weather has calmed down a bit, the town council needs someone to pick up the wreckage that has been piling up on their usually pristine beach. Bring some gloves, it's gonna get grungy!
    Payment: 10,000 ryo
    Requirements: Genin

Satori examined the paper he had taken quietly. It was an entire stack of them, and all of them were outside the village. He figured he may as well get them all done in one fell swoop. None of them were particularly difficult, in fact, all of them were relatively basic. The local town, Ota just outside of Kirigakure heading toward the shoreline constantly suffered from storms and their impacts. It meant damage piled up, and that only made sense, really.

So it was Genin's jobs quite often to go out and do what they could for the village. It made sense, it was a relatively riskless job that would help build good standing with the town, make some money and keep good connections for the fish and other resources that they brought in. Satori cracked his knuckles and stretched his arms above his head with a yawn.

There was no reason to put it off by any means. He may as well spend his day doing some community service; at least he'd be paid and it would look good on his ninja card. An amused smile formed on his face, others may be annoyed at having to do such "menial labor", but these villagers were his people too. It was important that everyone was taken care of, or things would only end badly.

You couldn't sit at the top of a mountain and not think about the stones at the bottom that supported everything else. That's how you got landslides.

Straightening he stepped down from his perch on the stone outcropping he'd stopped at to enjoy a bit of his jerky and dried fruits, Satori's gaze trailed along the horizon. He'd left early in the morning and it paid off, now as the sun had begun to break through the sky it revealed the town in question and caused a wide grin to split his lips.

At least it wouldn't be too difficult to get there, he supposed. Walking toward the small village he would tuck his hands behind his back, the sky was surprisingly clear today considering the storms that they'd been having recently. It made sense why the mission was offered now, it would be relatively easy to clean up the beach due to it.

As he entered the village, Satori went straight toward the nearest individual and offered a polite smile. A bit perturbed by the young man's wild appearance, but noticing the headband on his arm, the woman offered a wary smile back.

"Hello young man, may I help you?" The woman was currently holding a bundle of wood, he didn't wish to make her carry it longer than necessary, and so he inclined his head in thanks silently before inquiring with a curious tone:

"Could you direct me to the town council? I'm here to clean up your beaches and help around the town a bit now that the storms have passed," he explained simply, causing the woman to blink and then smile.

"Of course! We certainly need a strong young man like you!" Her worried alleviated, the woman nodded toward the second-largest building near the center of town. "Just head straight there, the council head is in right now working, he should be able to provide you with the information you'll need and where he wants you to focus your efforts," Satori smiled and nodded once in response.

"Thank you very much," with this he offered a polite bow of his head before heading toward the building as the woman went on her way with her chores.

The walk to the building was a short once, and as he entered he would curiously glance around. It was a standard meeting hall, but there were a few people walking about with paperwork. Satori pulled one aside for directions, before heading toward the nearby office. Pushing open the door to reveal a man that had begun to age past his middle years.

Grey hair decorated his brown curls, and his bright blue eyes lifted to examine the young man as he entered his office with a respectful bow of his head. Spotting the headband, the man grunted once and put down the inkwell pen.

"Thanks for coming. I assume you're Ryuutei-san?" He looked into Satori's feral red eyes without a hint of fear. He was experienced dealing with ninja, Satori could respect that fact.

"Yes sir, I'm here to clean up the beach. I'd like to do anything else I can for you while I'm here as well." The man grunted, arching a brow. It was rare anyone Satori's age was so respectful. Ninja tended to get a big head, thinking that they could just hold rank over civilians, forgetting that civilians were who they had sworn themselves too. Especially while they were young. Impressed, the man nodded his head once.

"One thing at a time. For now, I'd like you to clean up the beach. Specifically, the north-western side, if you finish it you're welcome to continue cleaning down the beach as far as you want. But we'll call the job done once you finish your section." Satori nodded once in agreement. A simple enough task, though at times like this he wondered if learning to use an element would be worthwhile. Still, in combat, he had made his choice.

Turning after excusing himself, Satori headed toward the beach after he'd been directed toward it. As soon as he arrived, Satori realized having access to earth or water styles wouldn't matter in this instance. It was a mess, with chunks of boat, chests, planks and more decorating it. But it wasn't materials to just be tossed. Quite a bit of it was still in good condition, and sorting it, to begin with, was a far better idea. Grunting he moved forward and began.

    No use biding his time.

Satori would spend the next few hours carefully chipping away at the mess that had been created. Chunks of the boat were lifted by the large young man and hauled to separate piles to be broken down later by craftsmen. Unusable parts were separated to be broken down into mulch or spare metal that could be turned into nails and similar minor pieces. Finally, any functional items, currency and so forth were placed in a final pile so that they could be sorted through and distributed throughout the village effectively.

The sun rose high into the sky, and Satori took several breaks for food and water as he worked. The sun was hot, but the breeze coming from the sea was nice and cool. It was simple, mindless work that allowed him to relax and enjoy the workout and environment. Eventually, after he'd finished his own section and just kept working a few of the villagers came out to talk with him and even helped as best they could. Bringing drinks and food, and a few men even began fishing now that the beach was clear, intending to offer them to the young man as additional payment.

It was true, he hadn't needed to do more, and of course the village couldn't afford to offer him extra Ryo. A substantial chunk was already going to be going to the village as well as himself after all. But he didn't mind accepting additional gifts for additional work, and so he continued. Going on well into the day until the sun began to set, and finally, Satori tossed the final piece of broken wood into its specific pile. The beach was now decorated with organized piles of what had been a mess. The sea had taken care of the seaweed and dead animals that had been trapped by the rubbish, pulling it all back into the sea.

The beach was pristine once more, and Satori smiled lightly. Who knows how long it would last before some other Genin was pulled down here to do the cleaning, but for now he'd done his job and some. Stretching, he walked toward the village and headed toward the market where the men had demanded he go once he was finished. Stepping inside he found several packages of fresh fish waiting for him, as well as a few assorted herbs and salt from a few others that had pitched in.

Smiling softly in thanks he inclined his head, binding the bundles together and heading toward the councilman's office once more. The discussion had been a simple one, and Satori clarified the success of the job: he was offered another. Apparently, since he'd done so well the man was so pleased he was going to let the young man stay the night so he could continue working if he wished it. Satori agreed readily. The papers had said they needed quite a bit done; no harm in doing it all at once instead of having to bounce between Kirigakure and Ota.

Content with this decision, Satori accepted the small guest room in the local inn and settled into the bed after a bath and meal of spiced fish and vegetables. Relaxing into the bed, and preparing for the next job to come in the morning.
