Tsurumaru Kuninaga - Touken RanbuHistory:
While many people saw the closing to the warring states as a good thing the period ended on a particularly sour note Haku's Clan. The Masanari were a small and virtually insignificant mercenary clan. Only about half of them could actually mold chakra, and none of them had training in it, but this meant that they were affordable for those like farmers and such who just needed someone to guard them while they sold their things at the market, or to take care of problems that the overwhelming strength of the larger clans would have been excessive for. Still they managed to seek ire, and were brought to their knees with their homes burned to the ground by one such clan, only days before their respective village would unify and declare peace, the masanari were left scattered to the wind.
This particularly rubbed Haku's father and mother the wrong way, as they began to hate the villages. Seeing them built upon nothing but the blood of the clans they struck down along the way. How could they just decide to be peaceful after the slaughter, it seemed unfair and unjust. It was in this house that Haku was brought up in, and from almost the moment he could hold something in his hands, his father put a sword in them.
Long, sleepless, and hungry nights were spent training a weak child who was cursed with a fragile body into a warrior capable of taking on the kage. However his father would not rest until he saw his dreams realized in Haku, and that meant that Haku didn't get to rest either, but this is how the boy was raised. A hatred in his eyes for the villages and what they stood for, and a sword in his hand.
Haku roamed for almost two years following the death of his parents. Once he was finally on his own, he immediately sought to take revenge upon the worlds ninja. Fortunately, or maybe not so for him, he encountered a village ninja from one of the minor nations. A good way to test his strength he thought. That was until he promptly got thoroughly beaten to a bloody pulp and left to die, to someone he later found out was only what a middle of the pack ninja at 'Chunin'. It was then he realized he'd need to train much much harder if he was going to take down the ninja society and learn more about his enemies. It was then that Haku locked away his hatred behind closed doors, and began to intermix with them, learning how they were taught about the ways of war, and learning where they faltered, while also gathering a good enough reputation with them.
Taking missions as a ronin, Haku eventually earned enough trust from Konoha to be offered a place within their ranks. Haku gladly agreed, being given the title of 'Chunin' upon his induction. It wasn't long however that his own ambition drove him to greater heights, but during his time within Konoha has realized how truly distant he is from his goal.
There are really two sides to Haku's personality.
The first being when he's at peace. While not in the midst of combat, Haku is a kind a gentle soul, if not a bit socially inept. He wasn't quite raised properly nor socialized really at all. This means he still retains a fair amount of his childlike optimism and innocence. Not really taking things seriously unless they escalate of course. He's relatively a kind soul and one that'll help even his enemies as long as they aren't holding a blade to his throat and aren't in the way of his current objective. While in this state of mind he's curious and adventurous, calling him child-like wouldn't be very far off the mark.
This doesn't mean he's always bright and cheery however. Haku was raised as a warrior, and was taught that there is no mercy when it comes to survival. When in the heat of the moment, Haku dons a much more serious face, and will do anything and everything in his power to make sure the person before him doesn't see the next sunrise. He becomes much more grim in these moments, almost to the point he seems like a completely different person.
