If you're going away for a while and won't be able to access the site, or think that you may not be able to, post up a topic in this forum letting us know why you'll be gone (if you wish to share that information with us) and for how long. The time doesn't have to be exact, but we do need a general idea of how long you'll be away so that we can continue to smoothly operate the site and its many stories without the presence of your character. It doesn't always make sense for certain characters to suddenly vanish or not participate in certain events, but we understand that life happens and players can't always be here, so we will try to accommodate you as best we can.

There's no formal template for an Absence; just write what you need to write and be sure it has some indication for how long you'll be gone. Characters whose players don't have an absence and are gone for extended lengths of time will generally be considered inactive, which may cause the character to lose certain positions and statuses within the game, as well as any unique items or abilities that we may wish to redistribute. These don't happen often, and we like to avoid them whenever we can, so please don't forget to post an absence.

Now, what posting an absence does for you is absolve your character from the 48 hour rule; that is, the ability of another player to call a hit on you for not posting within 48 hours. However, we do expect for you to at least attempt for your character to make an exit so as to not hold up the game for everyone involved with your character.

Please don't abuse absences to get your character out of situations that you don't want to be in. We do keep an eye out for cases like this and may revoke any protections that an absence provides to people found to be abusing the absence system. This is something meant to protect your characters when your life gets busy, not to manipulate the game to fit your needs.
