Working the Land:

Another day passed and it was another day that Shin spent in Iwagakure no Sato instead of another country. Today’s task at hand was simple and would likely to prove uneventful given the description that the mission had detailed. It was just another menial task for Shin to take on and yet it would continue to help his coffers that had been lacking for numerous years. The mission, chore would be a more apt word, was something that just about anyone could aid in, seeing as how the task was to simply help till the land for future crop growth. It was another one of those task that would feel like it would take ages compared to how much time they would actually spend on the job itself.

Shin’s eyes glanced over the area that would need to be worked, not yet ready to go to work and still awaiting the arrival of Katsumi to arrive so they could tackle the work at once. Releasing a sigh and figuring the earlier he got to work, the earlier he could leave. Taking off his coat and tossing it upon a bale of hay, Shin rolled up the sleeves of his long sleeve grey shirt and began to stretch out his limbs. There was no point in injuring himself from the menial job he had decided to take on with Katsumi. A shinobi who injured themselves doing a simple task such as working the fields? That wasn’t something that Shin simply couldn’t accept. Regardless, this was going to be a job Shin likely would not enjoy much, but it was something that needed to be done at the end of the day.

When Shin noticed Katsumi arrive, his co-worker for the day, he nodded in response to the wave that Katsumi had sent his way. He would resume his stretching for a few moments longer before he would follow Katsumi’s lead and head towards the tools that had been provided to them to accomplish the mission. Shin, grabbing a shovel as well, began to inspect the land further than upon his initial glances. “Definitely going to be a long day for us. At least we don’t need to come back here anytime soon after today, I suppose.” Shin would comment before tunnelling the head of the shovel into the dried land. Shin’s first attempt at getting the shovel to break up the soil was not as efficient as Katsumi’s. Planting his foot on the step of the shovel, Shin would put more force into driving the shovel into the dirt. After a moment, satisfied with the progress, Shin would then plant his other foot on top of the other step and drive the entirety of the shovel down. The process broke up the soil as would be required. Now, it would just be a mere matter of repeating the step for hours on end until the field was tilled.

After continuing on for nearly half an hour, a slight layer of sweat already covering his forehead, Shin would speak aloud for Katsumi to hear. “Well, on the bright side, I’ll be getting a good night’s sleep tonight. Could do without being exhausted though.” He would continue to work for the remainder of the day until the work on the soil was done, responding to whatever comments Katsumi as though they were more tedious than the work they were doing. Eventually, the time would come where they would part ways after reporting to administration that the work was completed.
