    Windy Bones Empty Windy Bones

    Post by Emiki-Chan Mon Feb 24, 2020 4:52 pm

Emiki strolled into the Training Grounds, her bandages compacting her ribs, and her arm cast tightly tied to her. Sure she was told to rest and heal, she was told that (much like every other doctor's visit) she was very luck to not have suffered worse, she was told many things.

But alas the one's Emiki didn't outright not care about, she had mostly forgotten. Although it really was the doctors fault, other than being told eating plenty of food, the rest of their talk didn't mention anything of note concerning the 3 Fs. Going faster, eating food, or having fun.

She'd start what was going to be a light, 30 min 140 mile run. After some stretching, and warm up exercises, possibly find someone to help her work out the flaws in her fighting style ... well for a very loose definition of style.

It's been a while. Years spent being a parent washed away the history of a once refined warrior. A sword dulled with age, made to hang as a pretty decoration. That was what she was reduced to. But here, now, children surpassed her, and he was set on sharpening her skills once more. Sure it wasn't going to happen over night. She needed a bit of practice.

    The training ground was perfect.

Her shirt buttoned and untucked, her hands wrapped with bandages. her slacks dirtied and stained from work, and her feet bear to the ground, save for the bandages around her ankle and heel. She was prepared to work for her own benefit. She was prepared to train. And that was what she was going to do.

She found herself to an open clearing, and closed her eyes, taking in the scenery, the peaceful silence and darkness. The emptyness of nature and the little that it asked of her. She cleared her mind for a moment before taking a stance, only to begin to go through her stances and forms. It wasn't practical, and never had she really used them in a combat sense, but it was the discipline. Soft strikes at the air, practicing not her power but the method.

And she would transition slowly between them...

Emiki was sufficiently warmed up when she saw a person wrapped in bandages and with her eyes closed was moving slowly and deliberately through various strikes, admittedly Emiki could stand to use some more combat appropriate training. Her "Crash" Style was still sloppy and unrefined. Using Ninjutsu and her bodies momentum currently than anything that could be defined as a real style. A part of her thought of adding more Fuuton Ninjutsu to her repertoire, but she had been too caught up in going faster than she had failed to fully finetune her skills.

In other words, she was sloppy, and sloppy was slow. Still this person moved slower than she would think a person would while practicing, more slower than Emiki would ever train at least. Still, an interesting thing must be looked at, and talked too unless she get too bored and move on to trying to beat one of the two only opponents still alive she could best. A Kumo-nin named Yoshi, and herself.

Hoping into the air she bolted to the Ninja, a few meters away, and would run around her looking her over at different angles.
Eventually getting even more bored of that than she thought she would, "Emiki greets you and blesses you with her presence," Emiki stated as usual in lieu of a greeting, containing all the social graces of a rampaging drunk bull in an antique china shop, "Emiki wants to know why you are moving so slow? Things move fast in a fight, and if your not the fastest your the lastest, and Emiki thinks no one likes being last. Are you moving slow because of your bandages? Emiki knows how restraining they can be, Emiki hates bandages, they restrict her from being faster than shadows." Emiki inquisitively bombarded.

Silence was always short lived. Interrupted by snoring, slammed doors or a son who asked one too many questions. Here seemed to be no different, why she even thought otherwise was unbeknownst to her. Soft strikes to the air as her fists clenched. Her index and middle finger pointed outwards as she twisted her wrist to pull her grasp to her chest. Lifting her footing to place it again firmly against the ground. Her right arm forward to change her direction. With each motion, inhale, exhale. She extended, inhale, exhale. She moved her footing, inhale, exhale.

A flurry of questions, but she did not change form. Instead she quickened her pace. Repeating motions as her hands shot forward, and her feet moved to kicks. Still, she stayed on the ground. Her eyes still closed to the world. She concentrated on her own breathing.  She had methods and ideas to flesh out. Nothing felt perfect or absolute. Everything felt rusty and bumpy. She needed to sand it down and smoothen it until it made sense. Maybe the girl had a point, or maybe it was just babbling.

"Emiki," she repeated the name so often spoken. "Do you always talk so much? Or am I just someone special?"

As the new person picked up pace, Emiki watched each blow and sloppily mimicked it as she practically scatted around the woman as if she were an Figure Skater and he air her ice, it was the question she got in return that made her pause for the barest fraction of second before shifting her weight one side then the other in the air in short mini-hops, "Emiki thinks questions are important or Emiki will never learn anything new, but just because you are not Emiki why wouldn't you be special? Emiki thinks everyone is special in their own rights ... even if most of them are slower than Emiki. Still, you're movements are ... slow. Yes! Slow, but you seem, graceful? Graceful-ish? Emiki herself doesn't know how to fight well, She usually fights by running really, really, really fast into things, and most people Emiki knows are too slow to keep up with her so Emiki doesn't get much training in combat.

"But Emiki does spend many dozens of thousands of Ryo a week into weapons that break within the first five minutes of use. Could you possibly be fast enough to help Emiki fine tune her fighting, or at least point out how Emiki can crash into things better?"

There were many words that danced in the back of her throat, beckoning to be spilled from her lips like a roaring waterfall, but it was her serenity. For now, it was not going to bother her, for now, she would do as she did, and if they had something to learn along side her, then perhaps it was all in good favor.

"Do you always speak in third person?" she asked, wondering what the answer would be. It was definitely a younger voice. Probably a kid. Didn't seem like she was around here, else a name would have been said to her, her own name. Instead, she spilled her own information without a second thought. But for what reason?

"Crashing sounds like your problem." Rei would say. "Slow yourself down." She took another deep breath, and exhaled much louder this time. her movements still tilting from left to right. She step forward around the dancer that wasn't there. "Not everything is about speed or power." She smiled, "Though, they help."

She slowed her pace, only to now open her eyes to glance at the child beside her. It didn't matter if they were an adult or not, they were younger than she was, and thus was an infant.

Emiki dropped to the ground to conserve her dwindling stamina, and go back to mimicing the other person's, which was limited now that she wasn't constantly moving as fast as she could, and the person was clearly a tad faster than her body's natural perception. Definitely faster than her current limited coordination.

"Emiki doesn't know what you're talking about, Emiki speaks in normal person speech. She doesn't get what you mean by third person? If there is only Emiki speaking, then of course everyone would know there aren't three of Emiki, although Emiki can see how some people would be confused. Emiki is a very fast runner, she often runs around the whole Land of Water in 2 hours, multiple times a day, sometimes even inside a single hour. But that hurts her ribs too much so Emiki doesn't do that often." She admitted, and for her it was true, she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary with her manner of speaking.

It was the words that came out of her words that came out of her mouth next, that she couldn't comprehend. It was one of those moments where you see a mouth moving, sound comes out, but the brain is completely unable to process it, "Excuse Emiki, what did you say? Emiki was unable to hear what you said correctly."

When the woman open upped her eyes she'd be met with Emiki wearing the most dumbfounded expressions. Her chest wrappings already starting to come loose, and her cast hanging limply in the sling around her neck. One look would tell Rei that Emiki in fact had a problem with Crashing.

Each move flowing like water, but striking with grace. It was all memorized. But even with muscle memory, the mention of being three individuals was a bit odd, and caught her attention. She remained still, holding her pose as she digested the words.

"Then I retract my last statement. You speak perfectly fine." Perhaps she was mad, or perhaps she had merged minds with some other event unseen before. It wasn't unheard of. She exhaled through her nose before taking a much more relaxed stance.

"You must be attuned to all elements of nature, wither or not your are able to use them." She would tell her, "Your motions must be as smooth as water, as fast as lightning, as firm as stone, and as destructive as fire." She looked over the girl. "Crashing sounds like the strength of a boulder, but without the form of water. If you learn to move as rivers do, then perhaps you could crash in a way that would never stop." It was a simple thought, and maybe it was enough for her to get her point across.

At hearing she spoke normally enough, Emiki gave an earnest squee, but the next part of her comment struck a cord within her, she needed to be smooth, not just fast. It was something she saw in her race with Yoshi, Yoshi controlled her environment with grace and elegance, and despite being slightly faster, tied because of her own lack of smoothness and grace.

Sure she was destructive, and fast, but her body lacked the firmness to fight like stone, and her grace and smoothness was non-existent. "Do you think you could help Emiki? Emiki lacks the knowledge of how to be as graceful as Yoshi, or as smooth as a river. She is like lighting and fire. Very fast, and very destructive, but lacks the firmness to withstand my speed some ... a good portion of times, and has no real grace ... or watery smoothness. Emiki is willing to pay Ryo, or owe you a favor no questions asked for your help."

Emiki pondered a moment, "Emiki is a Hiyama, her family are wealthy merchants, Emiki could potentially strike up a deal through them as well for aiding their daughter? They are always saying that Emiki needs to learn more than just things that make me move faster, or causing mischief."

Most of her own choices of words were phrases spoken to her once before, by her own parents. Sure, they weren't the best, but even they had some valuable teachings. Rei would have to pick and choose from moments from her own life, and ones she had taught onto others. It was going to be a challenge, but if she could gather herself from this, perhaps there would be something in it for herself as well.

"I don't know who that person is, but I don't really care." She answered, only to have her ears perk at the mention of ryo. Sure, times were hard, and a small exchange would not go unnoticed. But whatever the reason was, there was someone before her that wanted to learn. Who was she to say no?

A heavy inhale, she closed her eyes. "Then watch me." She would say, bending her back in a way that seemed to crack her back, the popping of each disk as she begun to soothe herself. An exhale followed by a slow movement, lifting her leg, drawing a half circle motion to the side, and the reverse with her other leg. Arms brought around her chest and to her side as she stepped forward, while the other lifted to the side of her head. She would make a few steps, slowly, and away from the girl, almost circling them? "Speed is fast, but accuracy is speed." She would say, taking another slow breath and moving. "Often a single punch in the right spot once, will do much more than several that land off target." Another deep breath. "Control your direction, and you will always land where you want."

Maybe it was wise, but really she just read it in a book somewhere. She still hadn't completely figured out what it meant. But slowing yourself to make sure you hit, and speeding up until you could do the same faster, seemed to be the answer. To her at least.

Emiki did something she rarely did. She paid full attention. It's not to say that she never paid attention at all in her life, rather she would get distracted, or her mile a minute mind would go careening off the tracks of one thought and crash into the tracks of a seemingly different one and the previous train of thought would be forgotten or misremembered.

But this? This was important, she hadn't had that many times to learn from Five-Sensei, a part of her thought that he didn't like her much, but that was the price to pay for being inhumanely overspecialized in all things speed related. So getting taught how to overcome one of her flaws to be a better Shinobi was refreshing.

After failing to crack her back, she moved onto copying the other movements, The kicks were the hardest for her, not because she lacked the flexibility, but rather when she would go to put her foot down, she instinctively dashed a few feet in front of her before the next leg was going for the kick.

If she was corrected she'd let out a sheepish, "Sorry" before trying to correct it.

But the moving forward while twisting the arms in a circular manner as she moved quickly forward was the easy part.  All the while she'd be whispering the mantra, "Be smoothe, be smoothe, be smoothe ..." under her breath.

It all mattered when you changed perspective. To just play with the idea of a different point of view was often enough to get enough insight to change how something worked. Sometimes it even shared a lesson not many would open themselves towards learning. For now, she tried to understand this crash-style and what she would be able to teach and show that could at least help her in some way. Be it reducing her own self harm, or controlling the impacts to be much easier to link to a second crash.

"Imagine that at the ends of each of your limbs," her hands now twisted, top to bottom, her palm to the sky. Her feet moved pointing left to right. "It points towards the ocean, and each one of your moves is a wave." She took a deep breath, then exhaled. "In order to make a large wave land upon shore, the smaller waves need to work together, rather than against each other." She would say, looking over at the girl. "Does Emiki understand?"

Emiki would listen and in a way it did make a little bit of sense. After all her fighting style was momentum based, a bunch of little actions that built up like a bunch of little waves forming a big one as each step built her momentum up further and further until it reached a crescendo, and then crashed into target forcing her force into their bodies.

But there was an aching question from that "Emiki gets that, it's much like when Emiki runs, especially when Emiki Air Runs, each platform of air, each tiny step, every movement forward are tiny waves that build greater and greater force. Like a Tsunami of Doom. But Emiki's problem is when it comes time for that wave to crash upon the shore, the shore breaks Emiki rather than the waves breaking the shore ... or is Emiki using the wrong analogy? Maybe if Emiki showed you her style of fighting it would make more sense? I mean it is a very simple style and when Emiki's armor is finished it will have fewer flaws ... maybe? Or at least will break Emiki less often."

Perhaps it was too many old reads, or simply echoing age old teachings passed to her. Bittersweet memories lost between words. Memories where faces were blank slates that were blurred at each attempt to remember until they were completely unrecognizable. There was words that could be carefully laid out on the surface before her but that would do no good here.

"Let me ask a simple question then." She would prepare her words, but she felt as if it wasn't going to be as easy as she had hoped. "When you crash into things, are you crashing into them or through them?"

To strike with enough to break through would allow you to carry your movement when you break it, but if you were stopped, your motion was interrupted by that object. But to aim at a target only to break it, would leave you strangely placed when it does break. So what was the aim?

Emiki thought about that for a second, which turned into minutes. Her eyes looked upwards as she tried piecing together memories into something coherent. It was a simple question indeed, and the more she looked at her "fights" she was aiming through them, but there were times when they thing crashed into was less a 'through' and more a 'prepare to move into a different target' with something that was 'conveniently in the way'.

"Hmmmm, usually Emiki tries to run through them, but there are times when there are a lot around that Emiki simply uses them to help maneuver herself into others ... so usually a through but sometimes an into. Honestly Emiki's goal in a fight is to hit hard and fast, but since Emiki lacks physical strength, Emiki resorts to physical speed and her body weight like a literal weapon, now the hitting them hard enough to do damage isn't the hard part. It's obstacles Emiki runs them into, or end up running into that are more durable than Emiki's speedy collisions that do Emiki the most harm so far.

"Take this cast and bandages. Second Exam, Emiki ran past all attempts to strike her, and shoulder rammed the Shinobi into a tree with the purpose of slamming him through it ... their combined hardness broke Emiki's arm and cracked her ribs, before knocking her out. Not fun times."

She looked down and hummed and hawwed as she tried putting her thoughts into words, "Emiki's greatest strength is that I have yet to meet anyone than Yoshi that can run as fast as Emiki when she goes all out, and Yoshi tied with Emiki because she was better coordinated and less jerky when she needs to turn ... But my fast speed beats almost all attacks, goes faster than others, and builds a lot of power.  Emiki's fighting style tries to capitalize on that. If I move fast enough, and I can crash through all opposition, Emiki can do a lot of damage ... but Emiki is lacking, and doesn't know what to do to polish the style to make Emiki a living meteor. Let's be honest, Emiki is not the brightest of bulbs, or so she's been told. The only thing Emiki will ever be not useless at is going fast."

There was so much talking. Too much talking. She didn't mind conversation, and it wasn't like it was pointless banter, but it seemed to be a flood of words for what could have been said in few. Maybe they didn't have a teacher before, maybe they were just trying to say anything that could help their case. Maybe they really didn't want help. To be reinforced in your way of thought often felt nice, even if it did no good.

But listening to her switch between me and my's, and I's we's was interesting. Perhaps there was a main state of mind that took over at times, the host in some way. Or maybe, it was all a guise, something she made up. She wasn't one to judge, and she could really care less about it.

"When waves crash upon the shore, they reach as far as they can." Akeruseirei spoke, "Because they are so fluid, you do not see their struggle against the large rocks under the ocean." Words spilled onto the page in front of her, but could they read?

"What I'm saying is, learn to connect your movements." She slowed herself to a pause until she stood completely still. She waved towards the empty space around them. "Demonstrate this crash style. And I will do my best to aid you."

Emiki knew that she wasn't getting through with her words. Words were oddly enough, with as much bravado as she spoke them with wasn't her strong point. Sure she could write eloquently, and she could demonstrate concepts well enough, but when she opened her mouth, it always seemed to come out wrong.

Thankfully Rei-Sama asked her to demonstrate it. That was something she could do, something she knew how to do easily. After all the best way to explain sometimes was to do, either that or make realistic 3D models and show things in a literal 3D guide using the full of her X,Y, and Z vectors rather than just X and Y like most people used.

Grinning ear to ear, she held up one finger as if to say, "wait a second", then was off. Going at her base speed of 45 M/s, by the time her after image faded she was already zipping along to to the shed to get the doll like dummies used for target practice, and their stands, toss them in a net. Then dragging full tilt the dolls dragging around her.

All in the course of 2 seconds, with the dolls in the field she ended up moving with such speed that it would look to a normal person as if shadow clones had appeared randomly spreading the dolls across the field, and appearing before Rei would give a thumbs up as she got started.

Using her Signature Technique Gentle Step she was running at a little over Terminal Velocity running on the air itself, using Futon as a platform and giving her a minor boost to her already tremendous speed.

Apparently running towards Group A, she make an arching turn running apparently parallel to the ground as she clipped the front of Group B's leader's head with her shoulder, letting the hit rip its head off as it twisted her feet to land directly onto the dummy on the left of her. Then using Chakra Jump kept her momentum as she blasted it away and landed with her back into the one on the right.

The blasts doing serious damage to the dummies, and allowing her to roll off it to blast towards the first Lone Doll. She shot down ramming it at the upper leg area ripping the legs from their sockets as her one good arm took the improvisational bludgeoning weapon as she blew on past.

Running upwards above Group A she blasted past the leader and the ones on right swinging the leg with enough force from her running speed to smash them as the leg turned to confetti from the high speed impact crashing into them.

Blasting into the lead enemy with her shoulder, she'd launch it, and use it's flying body as a platform to Chakra Jump herself into the furthest one demolishing it, as she used it to cushion her momentum for the sharp turn to the last remaining target, Using the Half Ram, she maintained Body Flicker to put her at slightly over Double Terminal Velocity Speeds as she ran into it with enough force to turn it's whole body into confetti and give a light bruise on the side of her face and good shoulder as she blasted towards Rei.

Putting on the breaks, and going into a stumbling stop that had her going at a normal walking persons speed into her.

"And that is Crash Style! See it's super simple ... but Emiki probably didn't explain it well? Emiki never had to really put into words how it looks when it's well, running really, really fast into something. Or did Emiki explain it wrong?"

Emiki would be beaming at Rei with a million watt smile, as she awaited judgement.

As she instructed the girl to demonstrate, she reached to her back pocket, taking out a small case with a single cigar in it, and a lighter. Lifting it to her lips, she inhaled the light to ignite the cigar betwixt her lips. The flick of a switch only to shut it back closed and tossing it back into her rear pocket. her hand brushing along her waist to see if the clams were still there and after confirming, exhaled a fog of smoke to find she had set up the field. She smiled for a moment.

"How interesting." she would think to herself. Watching it play out, she thought it over, her brain trying to process the little steps she couldn't see. There was much to be left to want, and things to be unsaid. But there was other matters to process.

"I see. I think I understand." She inhaled a long drag of her cigar, the smoke held in her mouth as she exhaled it all through her nose. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to think of what to say. She would wave a hand in a motion to follow what she had done.

"Do it again. This time, without using a jutsu." she lifted the cigar from her lips, tapping it to allow the ash to fall towards the ground before placing it in her lips once more. Her arms would cross and she would bury her foot on the ask to ensure no ember made a mess of this clearing.

"I want to see what you can do, not what techniques you know." she would say, nodding as if to tell her to do it again. This time, she watched more intensively.

After hearing that she understood, but wanted to see her in action without amplifying it with jutsu Emiki would nod excitedly as her eyes light up, "Hai Sensei! Emiki's very fast!"

And like before, but without the little dash of speed, Emiki would be well on her way to the shed before the after image of her body faded, her regular max speed easily clocking in at 0 - 100 mph in almost an instant, and with that it only took only a handful of seconds to get everything and set up like hyperactive blur to most people with the only stable images being her multitude of after images.

Getting a few meters in front of Rei she'd still be grinning from ear to ear as she gave a nod that she was ready before blasting off. Without the added maneuverability of being able to add the Z axis to make up for her abysmal turning speeds, and allow her lower running reach than normal. It things were not quite the same, but the added challenge would be worth it for the fun she was having.

Running into Group B Again, It'd be a straight dash at what would be blinding speeds for most, as she rocketed towards the leader losely "aiming" her path to line up with the leader and the one furtherest from Rei behind it. As she got near it, she lunged with lightning fast shoulder ram that blew the leader at high speeds into it's ally. The slight slowing of moment sending them away from Emiki with enough eventual distance for her to plant her feet on the leader's chest and launch towards the remainder with enough force to send the pair slamming into the ground with enough force to break as Emiki's back slammed full speed into the other.

As it's cloth and straw body broke at the seams Emiki was already bolting into Loner one. Lunge Tackling it above "the knees', knocking it's legs loose and once again arming her with a weapon, as she barely slowed down before moving on the next target.

Her Bloodline allowing her perception to keep up, despite her insane pace, in many ways. It was like Rei said. A bunch of tiny movements that built upon each other, growing until it became a wave. But as Emiki's newly sported splotches of angry red marks were attesting too, not quite a style that was without injury as Emiki was now.

Emiki bolted for Group A, Using a lunging jump to as she swung the leg that as before exploded as it decapitated the first line.

Before she shoulder rammed the rear guard and launched herself full force into the remaining two of Group A. Their bodies in various states of disrepair and destruction. Before bolting off to the last enemy which was finished off with a flying knee-elbow combination that thoroughly shattered it before turning her run to a light jog to Rei.

All in all, all 10 targets were destroyed in less than half a minute.

As she reached her Rei she'd do a happy little dance, as she panted lightly, "Rei-Sama, did Emiki do good?"

She observed while in her cloud of smoke. She bent her legs to crouch low to the ground, her arms resting on her legs as she watched. The end of the cigar lit as she inhaled another puff, only for smoke to exit from her nostrils. She watched her feet, her eyes traveling at speeds that she herself had to process when she was at a print. With a sigh, she took the cigar from her lips, burnt down in just a few moments, and she rubbed it into the dirt, extinguishing it. Soon, she would return, and practically beg for praise.

"I understand now." She would say with a nod. "You need to strengthen your body, and your form." With her right, she would slap her left bicep, making a loud sound for a pat. "That is what will work best, unless you intend to learn an entirely new method." She slowly spread her feet apart, getting a side stance before putting a fist at her side, and her right hand forward, holding a pose.

"You can either make like a rolling boulder, or learn to strike as fast as lightning. You can learn any stance, but you can only use one at a time." She would say nodding. Fully knowing that it was best to learn every stance possible before making any choices. It was best to half a full tool set, even with tools you never handled.

Emiki nodded excitedly at getting told what she actually needed to do rather than her admittedly, unrefined and random approach to self-training. Best of all it actually made sense, she did need to fine tune her form and strengthen her body. Rather than just strengthening her speed, something that thinking on it should have been obvious, but was something she'd been oblivious too.

Even the thing on her form and stance made sense. Sometimes her combat would benefit from being as fast as lightning, other times a moving boulder. Rather than a hyperactive living projectile, "Thank you Sensei-Rei! Emiki thinks lightning will do best for now, as Emiki gets her body conditioned to be able to be a better boulder. It's actually pretty funny, but most teachers eventually are throwing blades at Emiki or facepalm while moaning in anguish for some reason by now. Emiki's never had a teacher that could understand Emiki, so Emiki will do her best to not disappoint."

With that she'd mimic Rei's stance and get ready for her  lesson.

Often people practiced motions until your body had remembered it. Muscle memory, as it were. To beat it into yourself until it was instinctive. But she was rusty, unrefined, and not fit to teach her the techniques on this day. She could, however, teach her the basis to allow her to grasp it with a better sense when Rei would return. She would have to spend a bit of time with herself, thinking of ways to break apart what had now been natural to her.

Words spilled from her mouth, and Rei tried her best to ignore them. It was better than trying to piece it together. It seemed to be a mess in her mind, but if she was willing to learn, Rei would try her hardest to teach what she could.

She sighed, nodding her head only to pull her right fist back to her side, at her waist. Her left would shoot forward, to match in mirror to her position before. Not with force, but speed. She would pat her right leg with her right hand. "I used to do this a lot when I was a kid. The premise is to throw as much momentum with your punch as you can. It's not about throwing hard, but fast. You must keep your balance." She looked forward, her right hand returning to position. Her left returning to her waist for her right to punch out. Then back, then left. And she would continue and continue...
