Mission Goal: After gaining the trust of the Serenity crew and discovering the true mission of the smugglers, to bring down the evil group known as ‘The Alliance’, they’ve asked you to guard their non-combatants.
Description: There are five non-combatants that require guarding as the crew prepares to begin their hero’s journey to take down The Alliance. An engineer, a doctor and his young sister, a priest and a navigator. Keep them safe as they gather supplies and make plans for their fourteen part plan involving ‘crime’.
Payment: 25,000 ryo

So now they were playing guard duty for the crew of non-combatants as they gathered supplies. Apparently they had gained enough trust to be allowed into the fold and Tamwyn begrudgingly decided to help out. It was an act of course, Tamwyn would’ve helped regardless. For some reason he felt like Capt. Reynolds was aware of that, but they still kept a wary eye on the other. Tamwyn could squish the captain like a bug, but the man was paranoid to the degree only an old war vet could be. Still this job was easy enough and as the Engineer, doctor, said doctor’s younger sister, the priest, of all things, and the navigator went around town gathering supplies Tamwyn and Yenn would be fairly close, keeping a watchful eye. It would be a simple matter of intercepting any trouble before it arrived and with luck the crew wouldn’t even notice the presence of potential danger.

Tamwyn kept along the rooftops, keeping a watchful eye in the busy market. Yenn would be somewhere, probably on ground level, keeping an eye on things from that perspective. This shopping trip would probably take awhile and while that was rather annoying, losing any of the non-combatants would mean mission failure and a probable loss of trust. Which was something they just couldn’t allow. Besides, Tamwyn actually liked this crew, and didn’t really feel like letting anything bad happen to them. Not while he was there to stop it.

Yenn was getting along well with the crew of the Serenity. And no one was more surprised than she was. Probably. The whole crew had an easy manner to them, they didn’t put any pressure on her to behave in any particular way and she found the camaraderie that they shared was comfortable and enjoyable to watch. After the quick way the hostage situation was handled Tamwyn and Yenn had been welcomed ‘into the fold’ as it were and they were now being assigned to guard the members of the crew that were less violently inclined. Today was a shopping excursion in the village to gather supplies, a simple enough task but one that Yenn was not overly keen on. Shopping for supplies meant going to the market, and that meant being close to large groups of people. She would trail along behind the crew members as they wandered around the marketplace, doing her best to not look as supremely uncomfortable as she felt.

She knew Tamwyn was nearby on a rooftop, she caught sight of him occasionally as she scanned the area for trouble. She had the added advantage of knowing he was there. She truly hoped that there wasn’t going to be any trouble, she was really sick of getting sick everytime a fight broke out and she didn’t want to find some private place to throw up in the middle of a crowded marketplace. Least fun idea ever. She’d found herself not just eyeing random passerbyes suspiciously, but she’d also started viewing ‘officials’ with the same unrelenting doubt. She had noted the change in herself but had yet to discuss it properly with Tamwyn. In truth she was scared to. She wasn’t sure how well he would take it if she spoke ill of the village. She had every intention of bringing it up, but she also had to consider that it was entirely possible that her paranoia had nothing to do with the activities she had observed in the village, and everything to do with how she viewed the world. “Tomorrow I’ll do it.” She would mutter quietly as she stood a few paces back from the group and refocused her attention on her guard detail.

The shopping excursion would continue on for a time, the sun rising steadily higher and higher into the sky and the heat bearing down on them more and more. Tamwyn of course, wearing all black as usual, was moderately miserable. Although he doubted he was despising this situation as much as Yenn might be considering she not only wore all black, but if he was remembering correctly, also wore leather. While he certainly couldn’t deny she looked damn good in it. He also couldn’t imagine it was particularly comfortable on days such as this. The pale haired Chunin continued his patrol of the rooftops and watching for any ‘situations’ with the less violent members of the crew. Kaylee was a treasure who seemed to see everything in a positive light. Simon was a bit of a stoic pessimist who was overly protective of his sister. Although he couldn’t really blame the man for that after what the moon brained girl had actually gone through.

River, as previously stated, was quite strange. She seemed to be completely lucid one moment, then spouting gibberish the next. The priest, ‘Book’ was an odd man with a grandfatherly air about him. Although he seemed to have more of a mysterious past than most shinobi. Finally ‘Wash’ was a sarcastic, jokester who always had a quip on his tongue to almost any situation. Tamwyn found he liked them and as he watched over them protectively, well, them and Yenn of course, he would feel a desire to protect them and ensure that they were safe. Luckily the day passed with nothing out of the ordinary happening, they obtained their supplies, and returned to the ship and Tamwyn and Yenn were paid for a job well done.

The day was clear and bright and the sun shone down on them all during their shopping excursion. Yenn worried that Tamwyn might end up too hot in all the black clothing he wore, and briefly fantasized about helping him out of the heat absorbing clothing as a way of helping him with that particular problem. The daydream was nice but short lived as she heard a quick and muddled complaint from River about her food being ‘problematic’. The young girl’s antics were adorable, though Yenn worried about what had caused her to be so scattered. Whatever it was she was sure it wasn’t good. Things that affected a person’s ability to reason and communicate were often not.

All in all the day was uneventful and Yenn was thankful to not have to do any actual violence on this particular mission. The crew made their purchases accosted and everyone was able to make it back to the camp safely. The more time she spent with the crew of the Serenity the more she thought that maybe, just maybe, people as a whole weren’t so bad. She’d found trust and happiness with Tamwyn, she relied on him for virtually everything, but she also saw him as unique. The kind of person you’d be lucky to meet given the entire history of the world. Seeing others that came close to that was heartwarming and it encouraged her to keep a close eye on them so she could keep them safe.
