His clothing is something else entirely, and helps make him seem less feminine than his facial features and small body might suggest. A white button-up underneath a grey vest, a black half coat with brown cuffs, and a black leather choker are the basics of his outfit, the parts that never get removed. Over that is a full jacket in the same style as the other one, though the inside is a deep burgundy. A black bolo tie, a black hat with a brown stripe, and black leather gloves complete the outfit.
Underneath the clothes lies a man scarred from battle, with calloused hands and hard muscle. He is not overly bulky, however, his body is toned and fit from the constant movement and fighting of a shinobi’s daily life. He’s largely hairless, as well- you won’t see any orange fuzz on his arms or legs.
History: Not the smartest in his class, or the strongest, Kaede took a while to become a genin. He was fast, sure, but that didn’t matter when it came to proficiency at jutsu or the ability to do well during tests. He wasn’t the slowest to become a genin, exactly, but he sure didn’t become one on his first try. The only Hayami for hundreds of kilometres, Kaede didn’t exactly have many people to help him hone his skill with the clan’s swift release either, causing him to be fairly average when he was first starting out. Luckily for him, though his father was often too busy doing missions for the village to teach him, his Jounin sensei after becoming a genin helped him hone himself in other regards.
It took a few years, but a teenage Kaede eventually became proficient enough in ninjutsu to make up for his lack of being able to use his clan’s techniques. He learned how to use weapons and taijutsu efficiently with a bit more effort, finally becoming chuunin at the age of 18. It was there where he would meet the man who was both the best partner and squad mate he ever had, and the man he’d grow to resent the most. They didn’t get along- not in the slightest, but they worked so well together it was hard to send them on missions without the other. What his partner lacked in offensive power, Kaede made up for with his high speed and proficiency with weapons.
While Kaede lacked in strategy, his partner was smart enough for the both of them. Together, they went from average chuunin to an amazing team, learning each other’s minds so well they were practically one being. With every new mission, every new reward, they were climbing from the pit of mediocrity to become something they could be proud of. However, what happened when they were 21, 3 years after becoming a duo, nobody could have predicted. In a twist of fate, Kaede’s partner vanished one night. Presumed dead or defected, he was quickly labelled as a missing ninja, and placed in the village’s bingo book. That night, Kaede destroyed everything in his apartment in a fit of rage. He’d lost someone he’d come to place absolute trust in, who he cared for more than he’d ever admit. Sure, they argued constantly, but together they were something special.
After that point, he worked harder than ever, on his own. With a great deal of effort, he finally learned his clan’s swift release technique at the age of 23, becoming Jounin around the same time. From then on, he only continued in his effort to be stronger, hoping that one day if he became strong enough he might be able to one day find his ex partner and beat him up for leaving Kaede behind. Around this time he also discovered his father had been a missing ninja from Sunagakure who’d defected to Kumo for love, when said man was captured and killed on a mission in a different country. Somewhat shaken by this, Kaede ended up taking some time to investigate more about his father’s past, though he never stopped going on missions for his village. Was he obsessed? Yes. Did he care? No. It wasn’t anybody’s business what he did with his free time as long as he contributed to the village anyways.
One year later, he is still searching for his ex partner, and investigating the history of his own family and clan. However, he’s started to focus more on gaining strength again in preparation for meeting the man he once trusted beyond all others again. One day, he knows he’ll find him, and take him down himself.
Personality: While Kaede might not always be the brightest crayon in the box, he’s far from stupid, either. He’s by no means a brilliant strategist, or even above average in terms of intelligence, but he manages to use his brain enough to survive in the shinobi world. He’s never been overly fond of working things out with words, however, and is heavily prone to knock an opponent right out rather than negotiate with them. He’s violent, easily provoked, and sometimes easily manipulated, but in his opinion as long as his limbs are free he can get out of any situation, no matter how dire.
Perhaps the thing that sets him apart the most is not his intelligence, but his sheer and utter devotion to his own morals and convictions. Even if it means failing the mission,even if it means his own life, if there’s something that goes against his personal code he will refuse to do it, no matter the circumstances. While he’s not against killing, and his morals are looser than most, one thing remains perfectly clear: he will never hurt or kill a child. While he’s more hesitant to hurt women, kunoichi are just as strong as any other shinobi and he has no qualms killing one for the good of his squad or his mission.
Outside of missions and shinobi life, during his rare free time, Kaede has only a few things he will enjoy. Among the few earthly pleasures in which he will partake, he’s a big fan of wine, chocolate, and poetry. Despite his violent “tough guy” persona he’s actually an utter sap who cries over sad poetry or books and couldn’t bear to read anything but. He’s emotionally volatile at the best of times, though he usually manages to keep those emotions in check with his more violent seeming personality.
When it comes to work, Kaede takes his position as a Jounin very seriously. Whether he’s leading the squad or a member of the squad, he always does his best to ensure 0 casualties on his side, and while he’ll listen if he’s not the leader, don’t expect him to become subservient. He’s prone to going rogue when his squad leader makes a bad call, but only does it to save his squad. After all, in most cases the lives of his fellows are far more important than completing any mission could ever be, right?

How did one stop oneself from punching one’s own partner? Kaede had to wonder that, sometimes. From his vantage point on top of a large rock, he could only half pay attention to the brunette, who was yammering on and on about the pretty lady who’d served them alcohol the night before. It was tiresome, and quite frankly annoying. They had to get moving, the mission wasn’t going to complete itself after all. Though he supposed he could hope, that never hurt anybody. Even if they were working with someone like this obnoxious brat.
After a few minutes, Kaede had finally had enough. Jumping down from the rock, he aimed a punch at his partner’s head, who’d been standing about 10 metres away. Unsurprisingly, he managed to avoid it, despite not being as fast as Kaede. The damn freak always seemed to know exactly what Kaede was thinking, much to the redhead’s constant state of annoyance. It was uncomfortable as all hell, having someone know you so well they could predict your moves before you knew them yourself. Not to mention it being incredibly creepy coming from a pervert like his partner. The weirdo still wouldn’t give it a rest about finding the perfect woman to marry and have gross freakishly smart children with.
“Are you going to keep up with the stream of bullshit leaving your mouth, or are we going to go after our target? Because if you’re going to keep talking I’ll leave you in my dust, you perverted freak.” Came the irritated scolding from Kaede, who was using all his effort to not aim a second punch at the man in front of him. Deep breaths, Kaede. If he hurt his partner now the man would be useless later, when they had to capture their target. He wouldn’t actually severely injure the man, but of course the other always played up his injuries to get out of doing work, the lazy bastard. One day, Kaede would actually hit him.
The next comment from his partner, however, was what really made his blood boil. “Why, is shrimpy jealous? I didn’t know he swung that way~”
Oh, Kaede was really going to hurt him now. After the mission was over, that was, because he still needed the bastard to give him the plan for this particular capture mission. While he hates putting up with the creep, he hated walking into missions blind even more. Clenching a fist, he armed himself with the only thing he could at the moment- harsh words. “Who the hell would be jealous over you, you nasty piece of shit! You’re human garbage, only good for making other people uncomfortable! I’d rather die than want to be with you.”
It was only after this that Kaede would pause to scan their surroundings. Not that there was much to see, but it was always good to keep eyes on their goal. Speaking of goals... wait, where was their target?! He’d managed to slip away while the pair was arguing, it seemed.
