    Appearance

Shiori is a short woman of pale complexion. With delicate facial features as though born of porcelain, the woman's expression is always held in such a way that one would think of the very same marionettes that she manipulates. Expression rarely changing, she handles herself with grace and poise befitting of one who is officially recognized as the Chikamatsu clan. With a small nose and average ears, it doesn't seem as though she's excellent at physically tracking people, but she does have large brown eyes that excel at absorbing the visual information before her.

Long brown hair reaching down just past Shiori's waist often can be seen being kept in twin tails, but for official meetings she organizes her hair into a long braided pony tail. When in her workshop, however, she tends to simply let it fall and prefers to work in silence in those moments. She is especially fond of her hair, taking great care of it evident by the luster it has.

Shiori's build is what one might expect from a puppeteer, especially a Chikamatsu. Petite and slender, having not a lot of muscle but surprisingly next to no fat due to her diet. Having dedicated her life to puppetry, her body is surprisingly frail and relies on chakra threads for many aspects of her life. This has resulted in some people referring to her as lazy, as she often keeps her belongings and tools close by so she can simply procure them with the threads instead. This is mostly due to a birth defect that limits her muscular growth, requiring her to work twice as hard and as such, simply does not (especially due to her spoiled upbringing).

The young Chikamatsu head prefers clothing that completely conceals her figure. She doesn't like standing out and prefers to blend in. She is not a boisterous eccentric, but instead has an air that draws people to her regardless, akin to a painting one might see within an art museum. A natural beauty that she wishes to hide. The white coat she adorns is divided into three separate layers, consisting of an a large open space around the sleeves. The center piece contains the Sunagakure symbol upon it as buttons, with the Chikamatsu symbol fastened to tie the two chest pieces together further. The coat itself goes all the way to her ankles, where one can see the standard shinobi sandals present.

The woman wears the Sunagakure headband around her neck, underneath the coat but above the oversized dark gray turtle neck she traditionally wears when going out in public. She wears black pants underneath the coat as well. When on official business representing her clan, she is usually seen in vibrant and lively kimonos, clearly expensive and extravagant in nature as a result of her love of artistic and vivid things.

    Personality

"Puppets are undying. Replaceable. If they break, you can just build them again. They will never leave you. They will never abandon you. They will never place the weight of the world on your shoulders or think ill of you when you doubt if you were ever meant to do such a thing."

When her mother died as a little girl, that first feeling of emptiness began to grow in her. When her father was killed when trying to negotioate for peace amongst some bandits, that feeling grew. And when her best friend died as a result of an illness, the realization of how frail people were and how easily life could be taken away. It scared her. She became more distant from others. It was the initial wedge that caused her to keep others no closer than an arms length close to her. She is incapable of deep or meaningful conversation that would allow others to get to know her beyond some unspoken ticks here and there. She is the last person to talk about herself as a result, for the fear of losing someone is greater than the joy of knowing another.

That isn't to say she's unsociable. While she may not always be the first to start a conversation, she does on on some level enjoy the company and presence of others. She is capable of speaking to others and isn't necessarily shy as much as she is simply trying to avoid being noticed. She doesn't wish to stand out if it can be avoided and would much prefer to blend in. But if something catches her eye, she will speak up on it.

Shiori does not hold her clan in contempt as she understands their feelings. While it does hurt her, she is painfully aware of her shortcomings. She isn't suited to be a leader. When clan meetings are called for, she is more of a ceremonial piece as the older, more veteran members handle things and she simply listens. She wants to grow and learn to be the leader that they expect of her, but also worries that they may never acknowledge her.

Like all Chikamatsu, the building of puppets is perhaps one of Shiori's favorite past times. The ability to lock oneself away, away from troublesome thoughts and simply build. The ability to create something. The ability to relieve herself from the isolation that comes from her own fears. Building a puppet isn't just a means to an end for her; a way to earn money. Each puppet she creates is built with the a love and dedication that only further shows just how disconnected from people she is, viewing them akin to friends that will never leave her. Family that will always love her. Unchanging in a world of uncertainty.

It is this obsessive, unhealthy admiration for the craft combined with the natural talent of the Chikamatsu and her father's teachings that has allowed her to create some of the most amazing works even amongst the Chikamatsu -- a genuine prodigy through and through in that sense. Unlike many Chikamatsu, however, this also means that she is not motivated necessarily by money. Her works are sold not because she values money, but because she values the ability to showcase her craft. She wants others to see her works, to applaud it, to want it, and ultimately, to respect her efforts and artistic skill.

The brunette is especially fond of all manners of art. Music, painting, sculpting, et cetera; she loves it all. Perhaps it because the Chikamatsu themselves are artists that she finds herself drawn to the medium at large. She considers herself an artist before a kunoichi, and a kunoichi before a businessman. By selling her works, she helps the village as well, something she cares for.

Sunagakure is her home. It is where she was born. Her mother was born in this desert. Her father was born in this desert. It is the only home she has ever known and is especially partial to the desert. In that sense, she is immensely loyal to it. She became a kunoichi not because it was expected of her, but because she loves her home and the people in it -- even her fellow clansman. She wants for nothing more than for the land to flourish.

but if she had a wish more fervent than that, perhaps it would be...
