Boar Beat Down

It was finally time for Sera to put her skills to the test! She and Tori were out in the forest west of
Konohagakure on a mission to eliminate some pesky boars. Some farmers have noted seven boars which have been eating the villager’s crops and destroying their fields over the last couple of weeks. When asked to go on a hunt, Sera always made sure that they were either eating the hunted creature, or doing it to save other lives. In this case, there were villagers in danger of starving, and so she would do her duty and take the menace out of the picture.

The wind began to pick up and the boar’s scent could be identified to the young hunter’s nose. Sera activated her kekkai genkai to aid her in locating the beasts and immediately saw a couple on their way towards a farm. As she drew her bow and began to take aim, Sera would point out three visible boar maybe 50 meters away to her teacher.

“We’ve located the targets. I’m making the first move. When the first ones get shot, the others are sure to come out of hiding. Get ready!”

Her magical bow drew on her chakra as she knocked arrows and quickly unleashed three shots towards the three boars.

'Bunny Arrival' :

It was good how eager Sera was to get out there and put her skills to the test, this mission seemed a perfect way to get use of her natural hunting skills as well as do some real good to help out the land of fire outside of the hidden village. Having made it to the troubled village the keen eye’s of his student found the boar first, with three charging them head on. Having little experience in hunting he was able to lean on the years of hunting Sera had under her belt, preparing a technique for when the second wave began their rush. Forming a single seal caused two protrusions of wood to rise from either shoulder, crossing his arms to grab each of the spikes from the opposite shoulder; he readied himself to loose the lethal projectiles at the sight of any additional boars. As soon as the first boar took an arrow there was a rustling of leaves to their left and right as two more boars charged them from alarmingly close. Leaping into the air he threw the lengths of wood at either of them, forming the ram seal upon impact to impale them both with pointed branches that burst from the inside of the poor animals killing them almost instantly.

Head of a swivel he wove several hand seals as he prepared a technique and held it in place. “Sera, your sensory ability should be capable of locating animals as well as shinobi. See if you can’t sniff out the others locations before they show themselves. I can manipulate the trees around them and flush them out for you to strike."

'Bunny Arrival' :

Just like she had predicted, a couple of extra boars jumped out of the bushes once her arrows took down three of the exposed ones. Before she had a chance to react, fresh trees were created next to her as Tori manipulated his clan’s advanced element. Two more boars were skewered by the sharp wood, seeming to kill them instantly. With five boars eliminated, Sera was beginning to feel that the mission was a bit too easy, but maybe that’s just what it was like when you had shinobi dealing with civilian issues. Tori mentioned using her sensory abilities to locate the boars and Sera immediately felt a bit sheepish.

“I-I don’t actually have any special sensory techniques. Just really good eyes.” she pointed at her face’s purple glow. “I can see really well, but if my vision is obstructed, I’m actually in a bit of a pickle. I just use normal hunting techniques like looking for smell or tracks like everyone else.”

She put a hand to her chin in thought, and pondered Tori’s previous suggestion.

“While I can’t find them without seeing them, if I get a better vantage point, I should be able to pinpoint them just fine.”

Channeling chakra to her feet, Sera began to run up a nearby tree until she got to the top. Once she was up there, the remaining two boar suddenly became visible to her. Without yelling and scaring them off, she would gesture towards their location and take aim with her bow, firing another arrow at the smaller of the two boar. That just left the big boss boar for them to obliterate.

Seemingly having a momentary lapse in his memory Tōri chuckled at the misunderstanding. “Of course, I must have jumbled up the plethora of dōjutsu that our village houses.” Still, something he said seemed to have given the girl an idea as she climbed a nearby tree to help locate the boars. Her quick thinking was rewarded with the sight of the last two boars, upon firing her bow the squeals of her target left just the final boar. This one seemed to be enraged at the loss of kin, a great many grunts and falling trees could be heard as the large board tore through the forest to find those responsible for their loss. As the sounds got closer he finally saw a glimpse of the creature through the trees, it was of tremendous size dwarfing its slain kin.

Releasing his technique a great many roots burst from the earth around the raging boar, wrapping themselves around its squirming legs before a long tendril made its way around its midsection. The roots surged from the earth, multiplying as he fed the creation more chakra. Straining against the roots several smaller ones snapped as it displayed a truly awe-inspiring level of strength in its struggle. “I won’t be able to hold it for long, try to make your shots count!” Holding that last seal he formed several new roots that burst forth tying themselves to the stronger roots to reinforce them. It wouldn’t add much but with a multitude of smaller roots might aid in keeping their larger brethren from breaking.

The moment Sera took her shot on the smaller boar and the larger beast began to notice, roots erupted from the ground and immediately restrained the beast. A wild squeal erupted from the boar’s mouth as it fought back against the roots, some of the smaller branches beginning to snap. Tori yelled up to Sera that it would break out soon, and so she took the opportunity to take aim once more. Sera took a deep breath and felt herself becoming one with her surroundings. Pulling back the chakra infused string of her bow, the huntress utilized her clan’s special eyes to target the boar’s weak spot. An arrow would fly straight and true from the top of the tree Sera was perched on, and find itself square in the middle of the boar’s forehead.

With a satisfied grin, Sera would climb down the tree to celebrate a mission well done. But wait! A ground-shaking roar pierced the air as the boar Sera previously thought was dead, began to break out of the wooden prison that had contained it. Visible purple glowing veins began to appear across the boar’s skin and smoke started to billow out of its mouth. The arrow still piercing its skull, the boar began to charge at the two shinobi.

“Uh Tori-sensei, that’s unusual. You got any crazy finishing moves?”

As the boar’s head was pierced by the arrow it seemed to be flung into a truly mindless rage with veins bulging and a smoke that Tōri didn’t like billowing from its mouth. While improbable he was worried the creature might somehow have a developed chakra network and be capable of some sort of Katon jutsu. Blood rushing from its wound down its face the creature continued to charge them, aggressively knocking into trees as it gained speed. Trees flung effortlessly from the giant tusks as it bucked into any and everything on its path of destruction. A decisive final technique was required, one that could finish the injured beast in one final swoop.

With three quick hand seals Tōri manifested a myriad of arcing lightning bolts that shot forth with extreme prejudice, upon coming into contact with the raging boar a terrific roar erupted as it halted in its tracks. Hairs standing on their ends the creature was paralyzed from the tremendous chakra put behind the technique, smoke now rising all over its body as the horrible pungent smell of burnt hair spread throughout the forest. A faint cry released from the cooked boar, slowly leaning to its side before tipping over with a ground-shaking *thud*.

Turning to his student he smiled, glad they were able to make it through unscathed. The two then made it back to the village to inform the citizens about their completed task. Cries of joy were heard as a hunting party went out to retrieve the corpse of the big boar. It seemed they intended on having a feast due to their food shortages, he only hoped he hadn’t cooked it too much with his technique. With their mission complete it was back to the village, glad to have seen Sera’s first mission to its end.

As to be expected of her teacher’s experience and ability, the enraged boar didn’t stand a chance. With bolts of lightning stronger than anything Sera had ever created on her own, Tori had quickly and efficiently executed the rampaging animal. It wasn’t clear how exactly it was able to survive a headshot, but Sera was glad that she didn’t need to find out the details. With that, the mission had been completed and the villagers would be able to live at peace again. The idea of being utterly reliant on an outside military force was foreign to her, but it seemed like it might be a bit of an uncomfortable life. Her family had always been strong enough to protect her, and now her village and teacher would continue that tradition. Sera would look at the toasted boar and make the determination that she would achieve that level of skill as well! When all of her protectors were gone, she needed to be able to stand up on her own two feet. After checking in with the leader of the local village and pointing out the dead boar to prove their work was done, Sera would return to the leaf with Tori.
