Sparrow's Premiere as a Genin! [Flashback]

It was Akihiro's first day as a Genin. He had graduated from the academy at the age of 12, and was now ready to dwelve into the adventure that was being a shinobi. Of course, so far it hadn't been much of an adventure, but he was sure he would get there. He got up first thing in the morning, put on his headband and usual attire, and went out for a bit of practice before meeting the first Jonin that was ever assigned to him.

The first jutsu he practiced was the Kawarimi no Jutsu. It was a pretty basic, but essential technique for any ninja. The Sparrow had pretty much mastered it at the academy, but very much like a tutorial in videogames, he was now going through the basics again in order to be sure he was ready for the hostile ninja world that awaited him! Kawarimi wasn't particularly hard, the hardest part was setting up the traps he used to attack himself, the rest was just basic chakra molding.

He would then run out the door from his personal training room at home, and head to the training district. The one where he was supposed to go was the biggest one-Akihiro had no idea why, he honestly didn't possess the ninja skills to make use of such a broad space. He would jump over the buildings, making use of the traditional shinobi agility, and using chakra to walk on walls and over the river that crosssed the village whenever he needed to. After all, this too was practice!

Eventually, he would reach the training ground.  


Quite the nice area. The three traditional logs standing by the lake and all. The Sparrow couldn't help but wonder what sort of adventures he'd have today. He sat on top of one of the logs, the middle one. His legs didn't reach the ground, but there he stood, balancing them. He couldn't wait to get started! But where was this Jonin?

Most of the time spent in Konoha was short and to the point. Satomi was always fond of his hometown but he had become quite noticeable a few months ago. Kids would always ask him to do that eye magic trick. This type of attention was always something he would stray away from. However there was something he didn't mind doing, teaching. Becoming a sensei would be a first for him. He was used to taking so many dangerous missions, and being gone from the village. Sometimes with others, but mostly solo. But even he knew the importance of a sturdy and strong teacher.

This student would be important in leading the next journey. He could also help the young boy with his Kekkei Genkai. They were both from the same clan. The Uchihas. The Sharingan was one of the most powerful Dojutsus on the planet. But there was large costs for the sake of power. Satomi arrived at the training grounds, time to meet his Genin. He looked around and sure enough there was a boy sitting on a large log. He walked up to the boy and introduced himself, "Satomi Uchiha. I will be your Jounin leader after today."

There was a lot to be noted about this man who had just approached Akihiro. Whether it washis menacing look or just the way he confidently walked towards him, the Sparrow's eyes were drawn to him. He introduced himself as a Jonin, and even stated his name. This was a good thing because despite Satomi's actions and accomplishments within the Hidden Leaf military, Akihiro didn't really recognize this man just from his looks. To be fair, he didn't recognize his name either....But there was a particular word about his name that stood out immediately.
"An Uchiha...so does he have the eyes?" He found himself lightly touching his right cheek, right below his eye. Akihiro's Sharingan, if present at all, was still dormant. He hadn't gone through any stressful situations, and his Dojusu had show no signs of awakening. In fact, he had been wondering whether he had inherited this bloodline ability at all...He wouldn't have been the first Uchiha not to inherit the Sharingan eyes.

But alas, none of this mattered, at least for now. He stuttered a bit, suddenly coming off his thoughts, and then replied to the man. "My name is Akihiro, of the Uchiha. It is nice to meet you, Satomi-sensei."

He was dying to ask him about the Sharingan, but he restrained himself. The Sparrow was very curious regarding this subject, but he knew his shinobi abilities couldn't rely solely on it... in fact if he was unlucky, there was a chance he couldn't rely on the Dojutsu at all. "No matter. I'll surpass them all, with or without the eyes."

"Akihiro, of the Uchiha." The Jounin said mimicking the young Genin. Sato gestured for Akihiro to stand in front of him. As a sensei he wanted his full undivided attention. The type of training that the young boy would have to go through was the toughest part for any shinobi. Especially for the Uchiha. A clan feared throughout the world, they were known to be in possession of some of the most powerful jutsu known to man. However it was what the individual would have to endure to achieve such power. As he knew all too well. Perhaps he could do something different and let him find a different way. He would find out soon enough.

"What do you know of the Sharingan? Have you unlocked it in you yet?" Satomi getting straight to the point. He needed to know where he stood with his knowledge of his bloodline. The psyche that came with it was a heavy burden, but it was possible to walk through it. That was how he got to where he was. Why couldn't he lend the same hand?

Sparrow obeyed the man's gesture letting himself go from the log and landing in front of the older ninja. The difference in height became obvious, as the Sparrow only stood at a little more than 1,60 meters. He was a child, despite being a shinobi, and as such has the height of a child despite having been trained at the academy to become a decent ninja. There was, however, still much work to be done as evidenced by Satomi's question.

It was almost as if the man had read little Sparrow's mind. The Sharingan. What did he know about it? Well, not a lot. Almost nothing, really. That was why he had been wanting to ask an older Uchiha about it. But it seemed like asking someone how they unlocked their sharingan was a taboo matter, and one which most would rather not talk about.

"I know very little." He replied, with his usual smile. There was no shame in admitting a lack of knowledge, he assumed. "I know it is the Dojutsu inherited by some within our Clan, and that it has a reputation for being a rather potent Kekkei Genkai. But other than that there's really not much else I know. As for unlocking mine, I am honestly not even sure I inherited them." It was a doubt that lurked over his mind and heart like a shadow. Not having inherited this bloodline would be...disappointing.

"We shall see." Just the right answer that Satomi was looking for. If it hadn't awaken then he wasn't yet aware of the potential. "During your progress the nature of our clan will reveal itself. For the most part you know what everyone else knows. As you get stronger. You yourself will know what no one else knows." He beckoned for the Genin to follow them and began walking towards the large stream of water through the training ground. Perfect for testing and seeing the progress of Genin's. This type of land was especially chosen for them.

They came to a stop towards the edge. And Satomi began to speak, "What skills have you shown a favor towards? As more join the team, it will be important to learn more about the teams weaknesses and their strengths. Imperative that you know the limits of your team and its ability to complete a mission." Sato looked out at the stream to their reflection. And then back to Akihiro, he would wait with interesting ears to the boys response.

"Skills?" The boy repeated in his mind. Most other teachers he'd had would whether ask about his dreams and plans for the future or simply not care at all. But not this person, Satomi was focused on the goal and was clearly intent on creating a ruthlessly efficient team. The Sparrow couldn't say he disliked that, he just wasn't entirely sure he'd be up for the task at hand. But only time would tell.

"Well...I have mastered all the basic academy jutsus." This was obvious, and not really an accomplishment. He would need to do much more if he wanted to eventually surpass the man standing before him. The Sparrow accompanied him as he walked over to the edge of the stream of water. Sparrow saw his own reflection in the water, which led him to think. What *was* he good at?

"Well, I guess you can say I'm a decent Genjutsu user. Despite the fact I haven't mastered huge variety of techniques." He made a pause, and then went on. "To be honest, I've only mastered one. But I'm good at it, I suppose."

"That is to be expected. One or two skills means I don't have to teach you how to do even that. I can teach you how to master the ones you know. Saves time." Sato began to walk towards the slow running river in front of them. He stepped on the water, and of course, he did not sink. The water moved around him as if hes but an obstacle, like all the rocks around him.

"Lets see how you do walking on water." One of the most basic jutsus for a Genin to know. But Satomi has seen some slobs make it all the way to be Genin. But they can't even recall how to do the simplest jutsus. It was embarrassing, and he said that it wouldn't happen again. Which is why he was stern about it. "We shall see your Genjutsu later."

Akihiro merely watched as his teacher moved towards the river and asked him to do the same. It wasn't a particularly difficult jutsu, although the Sparrow was aware that many Genin had trouble with it. The Uchiha had had some trouble with it as well, at first, but then his parents made him train until that ws no longer an issue. After all, this was a basic but crucial technique for fighting on the sea, and many times Konoha ninjas were hired as bodyguards for merchant transports that crossed ths sea. Being able to walk on water was a tremendous advantage or so his dad said.

As such, Akihiro jumped towards the water and landed his feet on it. It was a weird feeling, to have water running under his feet and not sink. The Sparrow never could get used to it. "Well, this is it, I supposed." Akihiro said. He was unsure of what to do now that he standing on the stream next to the Jonin.

Sure enough, Akirhiro was more than enough to adeptly walk on the water without dropping. He had more than one occasion dealt with hopefuls who weren't entirely great at the technique. However one thing was to be on the water, the next was to fight and perform maneuvers that require one to concentrate chakra for both. "Well good. You can stand up. Well how about this..." Satomi began to walk a few meters downstream. He put some distance between Akihiro and himself, about 6 meters or so. Then Satomi perched up and said, "Attack me."

"Lets see how you far along you are even on top of the water." Something similar to a pop quiz on the first day. Satomi hoped to see what kind of Taijutsu the kid knew. The Leaf was home to some of the best Taijutsu users in the world. He was capable of some Taijutsu but not enough to say he was a master. However there was always something to show for someone brand new at it.

Akihiro was glad to have passed the first test. It wasn't a hard one at all, but he'd been a little bit nervous. Even the most adept ninjas could fail maybe once every thousand times. Akihiro could perform this technique 999 out of 1000 times, but there was always the possibility that the 1000th could be the one needed the most. Regardless, it seemed to be time for yet another test.

His sensei began by putting some distance between himself and the little Sparrow, and then asking him to attack. The man seemed confident, but who wouldn't be? Sparrow didn't take it personally after all this man was Jonin level ninja fighting a Genin a fresh off the academy Genin. Confidence was normal, and yet Sparrow was sure his didn't quite underestimate him.

"Attack me."

Were the two words that set off their little spar. Akihiro was confident about his water walking technique, but he didn't know enough about Taijutsu or chakra control to be able to fight and apply the academy taijutsu skills properly while remaining on top of water. This called for a different approach. Nevertheless, the young Genin assumed a Taijutsu stance. A very basic one, where his right arm came down and his right hand was placed behind his back while his right arm was raised and his left hand placed in front of his head, his left elbow pointing at his opponent. Satomi would certainly recognize the stance, it was a basic one and Akihiro's favorite. Of course, Akihiro wasn't actually mad enough to attack the Jonin with Taijutsu. Instead, his right hand (behind his back) would make half a hand-seal and...

...and Satomi would see a blade going right through his student's heart, interrupting his stance and making him cough up blood. In Satomi's eyes, Akihiro would look incredibly surprised from this unexpected attack. His eyes would convey a sense of betrayal. "S-Satomi sensei...w-why?". The Jonin would see Akihiro's eyes widening as the blade was further pushed towards him, causing the boy immense pain and blood to start dropping from his mouth and chin.

"Ah, gotcha~" a female voice would say, as a woman peeked from Akihiro's now completely immobile body. She was wearing a Kumogakure no Sato headband. "Give it up, you're surrounded." She would state. And indeed many other figures would approach the training area in a circle, surrounding the Jonin. All of them wearing Kumogakure no Sato headbands.

Meanwhile, the real Akihiro hurried in performing the Body Flicker Technique right after the first hand-seal. He didn't know how much time he'd have, but he knew it wasn't a lot so he used his free hand to make the required hand-seal. Using the body flicker, he would approach his sensei from the side, and as he jumped and quickly spun in the air, Akihiro drew a kunai from his back punch and attempted to stab his sensei back with it. Additionally, with his other hand, he dropped two kunais on the river, which quickly began sinking below the two ninjas.

Satomi was pleased to see the Uchiha immediately take heed of the call for battle. Not only did he go into a stance but he did so vigilantly. However, the Jounin had expected the Genin to not be as adept in Taijutsu but rather Genjutsu was his forte. However that was also Sato's field as well, and what better way than to show him what he shall possess and even use one day. The Sharingan. As Akihiro sank into a basic stance, Sato activated his Sharingan. The three tomoe Dojutsu spiraled in his pupils and they turned red.

The Genin secretly cast a Genjutsu behind his back, and Sato was instantly able to tell the influence. Using his Sharingan his eyes pulsed as the dispelled the Genjutsu cast at Sato. With it taking only a moment to do so, he could see the Genin prepare to take off with a burst of speed. But Sato dashed forward and cut him off instead. His eyes peaked downward and he said, "Great try but..." he sent a kick low kick that would force the Genin to dodge or get kicked possibly falling into the water.

As expected, no Genjutsu cast by Akihiro could fool his Jonin for long. But the Genin was proud to at least have been worthy enough to make his sensei activate his own Dojutsu. It was his first time seeing the sharingan in action but the Genin knew from the moment those three tomoes twirled around the man's iris nothing would escape his gaze. Alas, Akihiro could still fight and would not give up so easily.

Instead of freely casting the body flicker technique, Akihiro was surprised by his sensei's speed as the man quickly approached and attempted to kick him. Akihiro had very little time to reach, so far he'd only prepared one kunai in one hand and was in the middle of creating the necessary hand-seal for the Body flicking technique. Unfortunately, the Jonin was fast, too fast for the Genin to be able to reach properly. With a quick movement, the Jonin kicked Akihiro's stomach and the Genin was sent flying, dropping the kunai as soon as the kick connected. Luckily the kick's strength wasn't at all that great, which meant the Jonin was probably holding back. Akihiro was determined to make him regret that, even while being propelled backward by his sense's foot.

With a splash, Akihiro landed and sunk on the water. He could have chosen to focus chakra on his body and remain afloat, but the other option was actually better. Taking advantage of the fact that he was underwater the Genin dropped yet another two kunai and then focused chakra on his feet to come up with yet another splash. He was soaked, but this would not end here!

As he rose and stood on the water again, Akihiro made three hand-seals. He was a bit nervous because it would be his first time using this jutsu in battle. He had practiced it before, but now was the time to demonstrate his true skills!
Dog-Horse-Bird

Three hand-seals and Akihiro released the Wind Release: Breakthrough, expelling his accumulated chakra as a violent gust of wind strong enough to knock an adult man off his feet. Hopefully this would cause at least some degree of damage to his opponent? It was hard to tell.

It wasn't by chance that the Uchiha were widely known to be fierce fighters. Not only because of their eyes, but their wits and their cleverness. The Jounin was of course to fast for the young Genin and he took a restrained kick but it was enough to send the Genin sailing backwards a few yards. He fell into the water causing a large splash of water erupt. While the Genin landed in the water, the Jounin held a seal up to his face. A Shadow clone appeared in a puff of smoke standing on top of the water beside his creator.

Satomi made another seal and Body Flickered 10 meters away into some trees overlooking the small river running through the training grounds. Sato landed on top of a sturdy branch, strong enough to hold his weight. He blinked slowly as the Sharingan disappeared from his eyes. Then used them to watch from his point of view, Akirhiro struggling to right himself and concentrate his chakra back on to the water. While his clone stood and waited for the Genin to get back on his feet. "Now you see the eyes you will hold." But Akirhiro was not fazed and continued on with his attack.

He made three handseals and aimed a gust of wind towards the Sato clone. He bent down on both knees and launched himself into the air, where he propelled himself over the small gust of wind. The Satomi clone jumped a good five meters in the air to avoid the attack. Then it landed back down on the water, and waited once more. "That needs to be stronger." Satomi said, pleased with the initiative of the young Uchiha.

Akihiro had never been counting on his Wind Release jutsu hitting his opponent. After checking his opponent's speed first-hand, Akihiro was well aware the Jonin was more than fast enough to dodge the gust of wind. Luckily, he wasn't depending on the gust of wind to land a hit. In fact, he was counting on precisely the opposite. By jumping upwards to avoid the gust of wind, Satomi (or in this case, Satomi's clone) had made the very first mistake in this battle.

Of course Akihiro had been underwater when the clone exchange occured to he actually thought he'd be going for the actual Satomi and not a clone. Regardless, he wasn't going to make life easy for his target. As soon as he jumped up and dodged the gust, Akihiro held a single hand-seal and his real attack began. You see, air was his element. While in the air, the older Uchiha would have nowhere to step on, no support from which he could propel himself and make use of his speed. Knowing this, Akihiro also knew that if he was going to get this Jonin, it would have to be at this point. Holding this hand-seal, Akihiro activated one the most basic Wind Release techniques, taught to the Genin by his mother.

"Name: Wind Release: Verdant Mountain Gale!" Suddenly, and while the man was still ascending, the kunais he'd earlier dropped rose from the water, all aimed at the clone's body. They were three in total, moving at speeds faster than even Akihiro could move. The kunais would rise from the water and move towards Satomi's clone which was vulnerable in that position.

What made this jutsu even more dangerous was that Akihiro could completely control the weapons, making them change trajectory at will if required. He would guide the weapons towards his opponent's torso while he was in the air, aiming to end the battle there.

The clone moved with quick precision. Even without the Sharingan, the Genins moves were well telegraphed. The blast from the wind jutsu blasted under him. However the Genin thought to use his jump to his advantage. Every fiber of his body was readable by the clone and it could see what he was going to do before he did it. As he reached the climax of his short jump the clone made its move. He quickly grabbed a single kunai from its pouch and threw one at Akihiro, aiming for his shoulder. He was sure to throw it so the Genin would have time to either block it or avoid. This would interrupt his concentration on the technique he planned to do. His focus would be in his eyes as he landed on the water again.

Although he barely touched it as he charged forward and rushed the Genin straight on. He looked at the Genin's eyes beckoning a challenge. He would find that more challenging. If the young Uchiha had managed to dodge the quck Kunai heading towards him. He would have another problem, as the clone clapped his hands and activated the monkey seal. Then he held two fingers out and yellow lightning began to appear in his hands and it took the form of a snake 4 meters in diameter.

"Snake Thunder." The Sato clone muttered before shooting a yellow snake made of lightning at Akihiro.
