Hana’s eyes scanned the scene taking note of all the people within the warehouse. They were all distracted. That was good for them. This gave Hana and Chigetsu time to set up a plan of attack. “That’s good. They appear to be distracted. So here’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to throw a gas bomb at the front doors to prevent any means of escape. That should be enough of a deterrent to keep them within the warehouse. You’re going to get into position so when the bomb goes off we can spring into action. They won’t be expecting a coordinated attack. Hell, this might be their first fight as well. Just stay confident and give them everything I taught you. There’s little risk. I won’t let you get swarmed.” With her final words of motivation, if one could call them that, Hana would slip inside the warehouse through the window. Her body made little noise when entering despite all the heavy gear she wore. It was a perk after being a Chuunin. Kirigakure had some of the best stealth training out of all the great nations.

After slipping inside the warehouse she would sneak in her low position towards the front of the warehouse door, about five meters from where they broke in from. Most of the thugs were on the far side of the warehouse about twenty meters away. This meant Chigetsu had to sneak around the perimeter of the warehouse to get close. Or she could try moving between the leftover boxes and broken tables that littered the old furniture warehouse. It was riskier but a quick way to approach the gang. Hana waited for Chigetsu to get into position before executing her attack.

Chigetsu had been silly to feel nervous with someone as experienced and skilled as Hana watching over them, but that unease was still there. Jitters like that couldn’t be logically argued away, even though that would have been nice. Steadying themselves, Chigetsu would nod their head at Hana’s words of encouragement. She did just have a training session with the most skilled Taijutsu master in the village, and the world as far as Chigetsu knew. It was just a matter of replicating what she had just seen and done in a real situation. “Alright. I can do this.” She would whisper it to herself, squeezing both of her palms tightly before beginning her approach. Rather than try anything risky, Chigetsu would take the long way around. With how distracted the boys they were hunting seemed, she felt safe in taking her time. Without the sort of stealthy training that Hana had Chigetsu wouldn’t be able to ensure that they wouldn’t accidentally make any noises while trying to sneak around, especially through the mess of the warehouse. When they managed to get into position on the other side of the warehouse, Chigetsu would gently pop the opposing window open. Much closer now, she would be ready to jump inside and make her move whenever Hana gave the signal.

Peeking in through the now cracked open window, Chigetsu would flash their purple eyes around the warehouse in order to try and find where Hana had snuck off to. After a few moments of not finding them, she would instead settle down and silently wait for the gas bomb to go off.

Chigetsu decided to not only take the long way, but remain outside while doing so. It was smarter than what she would have done. Hana would have jumped inside the building first and then snuck. She figured Chigetsu did it to handicap her poor sneaking skills which was clever. When the door opened on the far side of the room Hana was the first to notice. The thugs were too distracted to pay attention. Hana felt she could throw a stone across the room and they wouldn’t pay any attention to it. It was painful for her to know how poor some people’s sense of awareness was. When Chigetsu was in Hana reached into her hip pouch and retrieved a small red ball. It was the size of a golf ball. The chilipepper bombs were convenient for use and storage. They activated with friction, which meant all you had to do was throw them hard enough against a solid surface to activate them.

Hana hurled the bomb towards the door as it slammed against the wooden doors. The bomb burst into a five meter cloud of reddish smoke. The pepper smoke blocked the exit and immediately caught the attention of the thugs in the warehouse. All of them would uniformly turn their heads to the front door observing the cloud of red smoke that engulfed that side of the room and slowly crept towards them but stopping just a few inches from its detonation. The gas was not designed to fill rooms and disperse into the air. They were somewhat bonded to each other forming a single cloud which stayed in the air and didn’t sink. Hana remained hidden but turned her attention to Chigetsu seeing what she had planned. Hana didn’t want to take away her learning experience by jumping into combat right away. If Chigetsu needed her help she was there.

As soon as Hana hurled the bomb and the cloud of reddish smoke erupted into the air, Chigetsu would spring forth. As far as she was concerned, this was the cue for them both or jump forward and rush into the thick of things, and because of that she didn’t really notice that Hana hadn’t rushed out as well. Clanging a bit as she slid in through the window, Chigetsu would land on her feet and dash towards the nearest punk. The detonation of the pepper bomb had attracted the immediate attention of the crowd inside, and so Chigetsu’s clanking and dash had gone unnoticed until it was far too late. With the nearest thug turning to notice and face Chigetsu just as the girl got into Taijutsu range, the first thing they would see would be a fist to the face. Despite how natural kicking had felt earlier, Chigetsu would go forward with the simplest route- Assume the stance that she had been taught and then give the boy a quick jab to the face with a mach punch. For rushing forward like that she managed to assume the stance pretty well in the heat of the moment. Not perfect, but well enough, and as such the punch landed a clean hit square in the middle of the boy’s face. Her hand had partially liquefied on contact, which she could feel through the wetness against her knuckles, but it seemed like that hadn’t deadened the blow too much. The boy fell backwards as soon as she hit him, colliding like a sack of potatoes against the concrete floor. The back of his head hitting against the concrete let out a sick thudding sound, but Chigetsu wouldn’t notice this in their adrenaline filled combat haze, and instead the first thing that they would see was the red.

It wasn’t that their fist had liquefied, but instead it had been this guy’s blood all over her fist. The contrast of it caught her eye, and then looking down at the man she had just punched it would also be spilling down from his nose, leaking freely. Despite how weak and limp Chigetsu’s noodle arms were, being tutored a little bit by a taijutsu master had a very great and immediate effect. Perhaps a bit of it was that they had just never really tried too hard before. Still, the results were shocking. Chigetsu would spend far too long staring down at the bloody face of the unconscious man who she had essentially sucker punched. Locking up now, the adrenaline that had been pumping through her veins would immediately disappear. Frozen in place now, Chigetsu would stare again like a deer in the headlights at the other boys inside the warehouse, who were all now reacting and very clearly upset at what was happening.

Hana noticed Chigetsu charge out first. It was good that the girl was losing her shyness and was being a lot more confident in her abilities. With the thugs successfully distracted Chigetsu basically had the first hit on her. What Hana was wondering if she knew what to do with it. Hana failed to inform Chigetsu on the proper weak points the body has, which was probably important when going over Taijutsu moves. But it seemed Chigetsu wasn’t totally a nitwit when it came to throwing hands, despite her severe lack of experience. The girl targeted one of the thugs square in the face bopping him right on the nose. The result was more impressive than Hana imagined. To her the girl’s punches were like getting hit with balled up wads of paper. She never really got to gauge how impressive her strikes were until they were tested in weaker opponents. The thug was taller than Chigetsu and showed more physical development but was easily toppled over by the small girl’s strike. And that’s exactly what Taijutsu did. It gave ‘the little guy’ the advantage over larger foe.

While the boy laid on his back motionless Hana confirmed him unconscious. Maybe he wasn’t, but one thing was for sure was that he wasn’t getting back up. After having your nose broken the last thing you wanted to do was get up and come back for another slug. That required discipline that was only taught in martial art schools and ninja academies. With that the other thugs responded immediately with no words, only action. They just saw their friend get knocked out in one punch by a small girl with pink hair, so a reaction was due. The men immediately began their charge towards Chigetsu and desired to swarm her. Unfortunately for them Hana would emerge from the shadows and rush towards them at breakneck speeds. Extending her leg out within range of one of the men she’d kick him over, which given her strength he’d tumbling into three others in his path. This left Chigetsu with one thug to fight directly while the other four thugs were recovering from getting sacked.

Hana had emerged once Chigetsu had shown herself freezing up. With the four others rushing directly at her, Chigetsu would tense up for the impact of what was likely to be several attacks at once, but by the time Chigetsu looked next three of them were on the ground. It all happened like a flash, without Chigetsu really being aware of what happened until it Hana had already made her mood. It just drove in how much they needed to work on their eyesight. Her attention would snap to the remaining dude who was still charging at her. With her limbs still locked up a bit, the impressive feat of Taijutsu she had just displayed wouldn’t be something that she could immediately replicate, and so the incoming man would be able to land a blow right smack into Chigetsu’s chin. Flinching out of the way at the last second, Chigetsu would be able to just barely shift the impact of the blow off, and instead of her entire head exploding from the impact only a fraction of her face would, shearing off into liquid at a sharp angle. With the lack of resistance that Chigetsu’s face gave against the incoming punch the man who had thrown it would keep all their momentum intact, and as a result unexpectedly stumble forward. Colliding awkwardly into Chigetsu, the two of them would collapse to the ground.

The struggle would continue on the ground though, starting off only a moment after hitting the floor. With the guy both larger than Chigetsu and also on top, he would be able to quickly gain a bit of control, although all of his struggling would just be met with a mess of goopy water beneath him. Without the ability to actually assume a stance now that she had basically been pinned to the ground, Chigetsu had immediately panic liquefied into a mess of water beneath the man who had fell on her. It was a weird and awkward mess, with both of them struggling about unable to really do anything to one another.

With the other thugs tumbling on the ground and infighting Hana turned to observe Chigetsu’s performance with her sole thug. The pink haired girl froze up when she no longer had the drop on the boys as the first man came in with a swing. Hana watched how Chi reacted to it, if she was just going to take it and rely on her Hozuki ability activating or if she was going to try and dodge it. When push came to shove, Chi did both. The girl attempted to dodge but given her hesitation in combat she still received a nick of damage. Well, what was supposed to be damage. The girl’s face partially melted as a bit of water was splashed off her face. It was nice to see Hana wasn’t the only one getting wet today. But everything turned to the worst when the incompetence of both of them resulted in both of them falling to the ground. Hana sighed, turning to the two and taking a few steps towards their location. But before Hana could actually intervene the four boys she initially knocked over got up and were ready to take their revenge. All of them charged in unison towards Hana ready for combat. Her eyes caught one of them reach into their back pocket and retrieve what appeared to be a switchblade of sorts.

Hana never really cared to learn the different types of pocket knives for two very important reasons: one that she was a ninja and had access to far greater, real weapons and two was that she was a Kaguya and could fashion anything she desired. Regardless she doubted the blade was strong enough to get any significant depth in her body if she were to get stabbed, and knew damn well it wouldn’t be enough to breach her armor. They were all small fry to her in the end. Hana assumed the Dance of the Blossom stance and attacked them one by one. This would normally be a fatal encounter for anybody else inexperience in combat, but to Hana the boys moved so slowly that she just kicked each of their asses one by one.

Chigetsu didn’t know what to do. They were caught up in a state of extreme panic, their body half-liquefied as the man on top of them struggled to either get up to or grab onto something to punch. Luckily for Chigetsu he was having a hard time doing either, with her liquid body being pretty un-punchable and also the pool of goopy-slime that she had melted into making it pretty difficult for him to get up. This was both good and bad for Chigetsu, as it prevented her from getting punched or the guy from getting away, but it also meant that the guy would be kept stuck right on top of her. She would struggle against him as well, unthinkingly trying to stand up and go right through him in her panicking. Seeing that he was solid flesh, all that Chigetsu would accomplish was to make matters more slippery and soak the poor guy’s clothing.

Without thinking too hard, Chigetsu would panic-fire off a water bullet, building a bit of pressure in their half-liquid arm and releasing it up out of their finger tip. They would miss wildly of course, flailing about as they were, but a split-second after it had been released a window would shatter off in the distance. Chigetsu had half a mind to start panic firing off bullets wildly until they got this guy off, blasting until they were safe, but the fact that the shattering of that glass window was pretty loud and they had no idea where it had been made them realize how terrible of an idea that would have been.

Following that miss, Chigetsu would attempt to cease the mayhem through another application of Taijutsu. Even though she was on the floor, the fact that she was under him would maybe allow for an uppercut? Maybe? She would try her best, slamming her half-jello fist against the underside of the boy’s chin. Even though she had the consistency of goo right now the impact had enough force behind it to at least stun the kid a little bit, which was enough to cease the struggling and let Chigetsu slip out of the weird situation they had been in.

Quickly she would scramble back to her feet, resolidifying once they got a better handle on what was happening. The man who she had been fighting would do the same, although a bit slower and more carefully given there was still a big puddle of water beneath him. All that struggling had left him soaked and a little bit out of breath. This should have made them easy pickings for Chigetsu, but in her own cautiousness Chi would just watch the man return to his feet rather than capitalize on it. She clearly didn’t have a combat mindset yet.

The two would stare at each other for a few moments, before Chigetsu would take a step forward and return into the stance she had been taught. She would telegraph the fact that she was going for a kick a bit without intending to, and so her target would have the necessary time for an attempted block. Even so, the impact would be enough to cause him to slip again in the puddle of water that he was still standing in. This time he wouldn’t get back up, although Chigetsu was pretty sure he was still conscious and was instead willingly staying down, but that was more than fine with her. With the man who had fell twice now groaning in pain and holding at his side, Chigetsu would turn back to see what had happened with Hana and the other three men.

One by one Hana delivered a simple combo to each of the boy. She’d extend her palm out to the first in line striking his nose before he could even flinch despite him knowing well to expect an attack. This stunned his plenty for her to swing her leg out and kick his side as full force likely snapping a rib or two. The boy flew across the warehouse several meters away from Hana before tumbling across the ground motionless. The second man would receive two straight punches to his torso striking his liver and sternum in two solid pops throwing another lateral kick sending him the same way as his friend. They’d both pile up on the far side of the room and remain there for the remainder of the fight. Getting up off the ground or moving in general was very painful with cracked and broken bones. Especially if those bones were vital for support. The third man in line would receive a hammer fist down to his face rendering him unconscious immediately as her strikes were powerful enough to pulverize concrete. Against human bone he likely needed to visit the hospital.

The last man was hesitant as his friends were beaten senseless in a blink of an eye. But unfortunately for him Hana didn’t bother entertaining him with an exchange in dialogue or even give him a chance to run off. Her mission stated the boys needed to be taught a lesson and she was the punisher. Stepping forward she’d grab the boy by the side of his head and bring it down to her knee. It was a solid blow that reduced him to unconsciousness. In the brief exchange that lasted no more than a few seconds the thugs were wiped out. All that remained was Chigetsu, which Hana assumed was holding her own. Returning her gaze to the girl in peril she noticed how chaotic the situation was for her. With water bullets flying everywhere she even managed to break a glass window which was bad practice on her end. What if the bullet struck a passerby? But things began to settle as they were separated from each other. Before the thug could react anymore Hana struck the man with the back of her hand clenched into a tight knuckle rocking him unconscious. Most of the boys were unconscious or incapacitated. This was good, though, as they needed to deliver the message after all. If they got jumped out of nowhere with no explanation its likely they wouldn’t pick up on the purpose of it all. But before delivering the message, Hana examined Chigetsu for any serious wounds. “Are you okay? One of them pulled a knife on me so at least one of them were armed. If not, we can wrap this thingy up and get on out of here. I’m sure we could both use a bath.” Working up a bit of heat she noticed her body was pretty smelly as her hot armpits evaporated the musky odor after not bathing for three days. It was bad.

Chigetsu would stare down at herself once Hana asked the question, as if checking her own body for wounds too. Fortunately she hadn’t been harmed, with her hydrification taking care of all of the impact blows. No, the only thing that had taken damage during that fight was her pride during that flailing around on the ground. “No, I think I’m fine. Just dirty now. Even more than I was before…” Making a bit of a face, Chigetsu would turn away from themselves. If she didn’t look at herself, she would maybe feel a little better about being filthy. “I think I’m read to just jump into a washing machine and let it go through a few spin cycles. That would be nice…”[/b] Sighing, she would turn over to steal a glance at the first man she had punched. There was still his blood coated over the knuckles of her right fist, although having liquefied so much in that struggle the redness of the blood now was mixed with her skin, leaving a deep red splotch of color over the skin of her hand. She had half a mind to go check up on him after that, but just seeing the blood now on her hand was… She turned away from the man she had hit, silently hoping that was okay. Like her filthy body, Chigetsu would just do her best to not look at her hand now, not wanting to think about it.

[b]“Are we done now? We beat them up good, right? I don’t… Should we make sure none of them died?” Maybe it was obvious, but she didn’t exactly know what to do. “We don’t need to clean up their graffiti or anything, or call like… the police?”

Hana was at least relieved to know that Chigetsu didn’t suffer any serious damage. On her comment of being filthy Hana couldn’t help but nervously chuckle. Hana had the impression that maybe Chigetsu was giving Hana some obvious hints for her to take a bath. She did noticeably reek now that she worked up a minor sweat off her clothes. “That makes both of us.” She said adding onto the girl’s statement about washing up. But Hana was surprised about Chigetsu mentioning that she was going to go in the washing machine. This was more than the first time she heard her say that. Did the Hozuki actually use washing machines to clean up? Or was this some sort of inside joke they all knew about? Chi didn’t seem like the joker type which really made her curious. Chigetsu looked at her victims and questioned what their next course of action was, which Hana was more than happy to indulge her with.

“Nope, none of that is necessary. I mean, I know you didn’t kill anybody. And none of my attacks were aimed to be lethal. But that aside, our work is done. Our job was to track these boys down and teach them a lesson. We are mercenaries after all. If the store owners wanted to get the police involved they would have done it in the first place. But the problem is that the police have boundaries set by law. Ninja on the other hand have a moral code, however we aren’t bound by civilian law and have the right to enforce whatever our mission contract entails. And our mission only said we just had to rough them up. But now, it’s time to wrap it up.” Hana approached one of the pile of bodies on the far side of the warehouse. The boy laid wincing in pain holding his side where he likely suffered a few broken ribs. Hana squatted down to his level before she spoke. “You caused our contractors a lot of damage on their property. You treat their stores like we just did your bodies. If our bosses go out of business because of your shit, that means you will be going out of business. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

The boys were hurt but would be capable of limping home or to the hospital if needed. She let her words sink in before regrouping with Chi. “That should do it. Lets head out the window. That pepper gas will linger for an hour or so.”

Chigetsu would watch on as an onlooker as Hana said her part. It was an intimidating speech, probably made all the more so just by how Hana had just beat up the lot of them. Chigetsu had helped a little bit, but even now it was hard to call the pink-haired little girl intimidating in the slightest. Just watching the entire experience made her feel a little dirty though, and not just in the physical sense of being covered in dirt. Because she was covered in dirt, but that wasn’t what she was feeling right now. Staring down at the boy wincing in pain, Chi couldn’t help but feel pity for him, even though he had tried to attack both Chi and Hana. She would probably have felt a lot different about this all if she wasn’t blessed with the ability to liquefy and had actually taken a punch to the jaw, but that wasn’t something that Chigetsu could speculate on.

“Y-Yeah…” Chigetsu would sort of mumble it out as an emphasis to Hana’s intimidation speech, trying to seem like she was somehow involved in this too and not just as a clown. Without anything else to add though she would just return to being silent.

Turning back to the window, Chigetsu would follow back with Hana whenever she would decide to leave. It was becoming a natural feeling now for Chigetsu to follow after her lead. Even though Chigetsu wasn’t really used to thinking in terms of ranks and such with Mizukage and Genin and all that, Hana just had the aura of a natural leader. At least, that’s how it felt to the exceptionally submissive Chigetsu. Once they would slip out through the same window that they had come in, Chigetsu would let out a heavy breath of air, sounding like they had been holding their breath for the entirety of the fight.

“... Are there a lot of missions like this?” She would ask as soon as they left the warehouse. Up until now, all her experience with shinobi life had just been glorified chores. This was… very different.

Hana found Chigetsu’s tidbit added to her speech a bit...cringy? Hana’s face lost all seriousness at the pink haired girl’s response. Despite that the boys were in no position to laugh or make any sort of remark. The two of them would head towards the window and slip out one by one. It was dusk already with sunset having passed them during their little training bout, organizing their plan and actually executing it. The actual mission itself took ten minutes at most. Back into the air they were greeted by the refreshing ocean air and cool breezes. Street lights were beginning to be lit as activity on the streets in general began to decline. As she led them to the main road Hana opened windows along the way from the warehouse to allow ventilation. This would help accelerate the gas dissipating into the atmosphere. But soon enough they were back on the streets standing on the sidewalk. Chi spoke to Hana curious about the missions a ninja experiences. She always found this talk to be the most entertaining from a sensei perspective. She’d sigh gently before starting to walk down the road.

“Honestly, no. People get this misconception that ninja lead a life of constant violence and secrecy. But that’s far from the truth. Occasionally you would be tasked with mercenary work like we did today or be required to fight in defense, but you’d be surprised. If you ever become Chuunin most of your days will be spent as general security, clerical work, setting up new traps, getting rid of old traps, patrolling the roads and maintaining peace. It’s a really easy job. I was almost sucked into it for life until a few years ago when I decided I didn’t want to be so...mediocre for the rest of my life. Jounin generally do a lot of the more darker and riskier missions. Currently I think you have what it takes to be Chuunin. If you ever come out of your shell you should try becoming a Jounin.”

Hana’s answer had honestly surprised her. She half expected the answer would be yes, even though she was hoping against it, but it was much more nuanced. Having entered the shinobi lifestyle essentially on whim in order to earn some extra cash, Chigetsu lacked the sort of killer instinct that many other Genin had. Even just dealing with blood like that was hard for her, and the thought of it now made her stomach swirl around uncomfortably. Even with what Hana had said about mediocrity… Being able to continue this sort of lifestyle without being forced into constant physical violence like this would be more tolerable to someone like Chigetsu. Being mediocre wasn’t something that frightened Chigetsu, especially not after thinking of themselves as a general failure for most of their early life. It was almost comforting, in a weird way that she couldn’t explain.

“Chunin?” That part made Chi squeak out in surprise though. Her mother had been pressuring her lately to go into the Chunin Exams, but hearing Hana say this hammered it in further. As much as Chigetsu had been wanting to avoid it all, it was quickly beginning to look to be impossible. “Me? You really think so?” It was flattering that she seemed to imply that Chigetsu could enter the Chunin Exams and have a performance favorable enough to be promoted, but at the same time it was terrifying. The comment about Jounin was a little too much to think about right now too.

It was different having someone tell Chigetsu that she actually could succeed like that. She wasn’t used to it, and didn’t know how exactly to respond.

Hana nodded reassuring her works with a bright grin and thumbs up. “For sure. Being a Chuunin just takes some common sense and decent combat capabilities. You have just about that all together going for you. We are expecting them very soon. So I hope you’re willing to participate.” Hana meant what she said, too. She wasn’t the kind to butter up people or lie to their face. Anybody who knew Hana knew that she was very blunt. Especially when there was an opportunity to pick on someone jokingly. But what Hana said to Chigetsu was true. “Feel free to head on home. I’ll take care of the mission report. The exams won’t be for another month. I won’t bother you with missions or training. You can rest up and prepare mentally or do whatever. Good luck to you.” With that Hana would disappear at max speed vanishing from the girl’s point of view.

Having Hana disappear like that sent a slight breeze in Chigetsu’s direction. Her speed was incredible. Chigetsu only saw a flicker before she disappeared completely. She would be left standing there for a few moments, staring into the space where Hana had been. All the things that Hana had said would roll around inside her head. It was hard to process, especially after all of this mess that they had just taken care of. She was grateful that Hana had offered to take care of the mission report. Swallowing down a bit of her nervousness, Chigetsu would nod at Hana’s words, even though she had already left.

“Resting up… Sounds good.” She would say it to herself. There was nobody around to hear. With still a month before the exams, Chigetsu had plenty of time to prepare further if she needed to… It was looking more and more like she didn’t really have a choice in the matter. With both Mom and Hana seemingly wanting her to enter, she couldn’t just dismiss both of them and not join. It would just then be her returning to NEETdom, going right back to where she had started.

Realizing that she was staring off into space in a rather bad section of town, Chigetsu would snap out of her thoughts. Quickly she would rush off back home. She had been half kidding about that washing machine thing, but now she was starting to seriously consider it.
