What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris] Empty What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris]

Mission Name: Who Let the Dog Out?
    Mission Type: Recovery
    Mission Rank: D
Mission Goal: Track down and retrieve Ms. Muramasa's dog, Spot.
Description: Spot was last seen running away from Ms. Muramasa in the marketplace. He's a medium sized dog with brown fur and a white spot on the right side of his body that takes up most of his ribcage. Spot likes to run and play games, so you better be quick or you'll never catch him!
    Payment: 10,000 ryo
    Requirements: Genin

Well this was certainly interesting. There wouldn't be one but two canines on this mission.
Yumi didn't have many interactions with the Inuzuka clan, seeing as how their clan was rather scattered it was a rarity to see one of their members in the village. But lo and behold a member had taken the same mission as her, and on top of that, a familiar face from her own request too.

The Kaguya leaned back against the wall of a building close to the market district where the last sighting of Ms. Muramasa's dog was seen. Red eyes carefully scanned over the picture the older woman had given her after an investigation at her house earlier that day had taken place by the Kaguya herself with a firm expression. It was a photo of the woman and the dog, a medium-sized canine with brown and white fur. They looked pretty happy together. It was a shame she was missing her companion. Yumi had never had a pet herself before but she was aware of how attached people to their animals. her companion, how doubt, would understand better than she ever could.
Yumi scanned over the picture, trying to memorize the dog's imagine before slipping it back into her pocket and crossing her arms over her chest. It was midday at the market. The smell of bread and Kiri's signature fisheries were high in the air. It made her stomach growl a bit, but she would have to eat later.

It was funny how fate sometimes worked. He had never had any real interactions with Yumi before he had taken her up on the group training she had posted up on the bulletin board a while back, and now here he was on the same minor mission with her. The mission was to retrieve a woman's dog that had gotten loose in the marketplace. It was a simple mission, as most missions for Genin were, yet it still paid for what he wanted to purchase so he had no reason not to take them. Yumi had taken a picture of the dog, to help her to find the pooch so that she could capture it and bring it in. Chaoris, on the other hand, had taken a chew toy to take for him and Sif to smell to track by scent.

"Do you want to split up to find the dog?" Either way, split up or not, they would likely have no issue finding the dog. Surely she was good enough at moving through such a familiar area that this mission was easy enough on her own. It was the same for him, so with two of them there it was almost easy enough to do with their eyes closed.

When her partner's voice spoke up above the crowd Yumi's eyes flickered over to him and his canine companion, pushing herself off of the wall to stand up straight. Chaoris was right to the point, as per usual. There was little fiddling about when he was involved, which was strange to the Kaguya. But, when your only friend for many years was Mikoto, you kind of got used to laziness and mucking about. That girl would do just about anything to get out of responsibilities.
Yumi nodded at Chaoris' suggestion. It would be much easier to cover as much ground as they could. Although there was a strong possibility that the dog was no loner in the vicinity there was still a chance that it would be close by, and even if they managed to gather clues of where it went it would make the investigation go a lot smoother.
"Yeah. The more ground we can cover the better. If you find anything make sure to take note of it and we'll report back here in an hour."

Seemed like a simple enough plan to follow. Hopefully they'd be able to find it within the day. If not, it was going to be troublesome indeed. The Kaguya broke her gaze from the Inuzuka to the stalls behind her. "I'll search the market place and ask around. If you find the dog or pick up a newer scent, well, a simple holler would be enough given it's not too large an area."
With that said Yumi turned to follow down the open path of the marketplace in search for any sort of clues.

The girl would agree with splitting up and would mention meeting back in an hour with anything of import. "Sounds good. If I catch the scent or find the dog any other way, I'll let you know." The two would split up to roam about the marketplace to go about their search after that. Chaoris would bring the rubber toy up to his nose and sniff it a few times before also allowing his canine companion to do the same. "Find him, Sif." The simple command was all he needed for Sif to get to work tracking the scent, and he would do the same as he followed a different trail from the dog.

It was clear the dog had roamed all over the marketplace, the same smell was all over, near every stall and place people gathered. It was likely getting attention from everyone it came across, so it was likely that Yumi would also find a lot of information pertaining to the dog's location as well. Eventually, he would pick up on a fresher scent and would begin following it, whistling for Sif to follow so that they could both chase down the trail. He wondered how the search was going on Yumi's side, as well as wondered how long it would take to get the dog once they did track it down.

About half an hour into her searching is was becoming clear that this was going to be harder than she thought. While asking the stall owners for any information they could care to recall about a dog passing through all of their timing was pulling her around in a circle. Some saw him hours ago while others mere minutes before Yumi approached them. Each time she got closer the further away she became. The dog was a slippery one, easily avoiding her grasp by the slightest reach. It was like trying to catch her own shadow.
By about the fiftieth stall it was seeming a bit ridiculous. How an animal could be so friendly and yet want to visit every single person but the ones who were trying to find him was beyond her understanding. The market's draw was becoming too much for the Kaguya to withstand. The food smells of fresh fish and fried meats made her stomach growl louder, drawing a small blush of embarrassment across her face. "I... Really should have eaten more before taking this on" she mumbled to herself. Looking across the way a smaller Takoyaki stole her attention when a wonderful scent of fries octopus caught her nose. The Kaguya could feel her mouth begin to water slightly. "Maybe it isn't a bad thing to stop for a few minutes and buy one. After all it'd be a shame to pass out from hunger while doing a mission. Oh, i know. I'll buy one for Chaoris too. That's fair, right?" Was she trying to convince herself or someone else? Or maybe both. Either way it took the young girl no time at all to shuffle on over to the stand and order herself (and Chaoris) a stick each.

Her eyes sparkled when at long last after a bit of waiting in line the batter was poured into the molds and out came these two very elaborate Takoyaki sticks, each topped with a health squirt of sauce and mayonnaise. Probably not the healthiest in the world, but it was going to be fuel for the rest of the time until she got home. The stall owner handed her the two sticks in exchange for a couple of yen, which she gladly did. Now, it was time to sit back and enjoy her food! Lifting one to her mouth Yumi was about to take a bite of it when she chomped down and noticed nothing was there. One moment her Takoyaki was there, the next, the stick was bitten half off.
Wide, surprised eyes stared at the stick for a few moments before she recognized there were chewing noises on the ground next to her. She separated her gaze and looked down at it to see a brown and white dog happily licking its lips.

Utter heartbreak. If Yumi could cry in this moment, she would have. You'd think she would be overjoyed, given that this dog matched the picture of Spot perfectly. But this was anything but a good moment. The food she waited so long to enjoy was gone, and so was her happiness.
To make matters even worse, the dog once again jumped up and took the other Takoyaki with lightning fast speed. Yumi stepped back in surprise and turned to distraught. After taking a moment to mourn her fallen food her expression turned from distraught to anger. "You... You BASTARD!" It was rare to see Yumi rage. It took a lot for the normally calm and collected warrior to fuel into a psychopath. But when she did, you know you messed up.
The dog took off at a breakneck pace, but Yumi was close behind, fueled by burning hated and despair. Everything standing in her way was obliterated. Tables, stalls, stands, you name it. Stuff was flying into the air down the marked paths. People jumped out of the way, yelling and staring at the scene before them. All the while a screaming Yumi ran after this joyus dog. Honestly, he looked to be enjoying the attention no matter it was bad.

What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris] Empty Re: What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris]

Post by Guest Tue Sep 28, 2021 8:33 pm

Every scent trail in the last half hour, for him and his dog, had led to dead ends and already eaten food. When asked what he was doing he had told people about the dog he was searching for. Every person he spoke to on the subject had varying answers to it. Some had just seen the dog moments ago where some seemed to have not seen them since it had run by them hours ago. After another trail going cold he would start off towards the center of the marketplace to try and catch a new scent that was more recent.

It wouldn't take long for a fresh scent to reach his nose, and he would whistle again for Sif to come to him so that the dog would also be on the new trail they were going to follow. It felt like they were gaining progress on the search, though it had been quite a while now, and just as they thought they were getting close they would hear a familiar voice yell out in a fit of pure rage. Shortly after that, the Inuzuka Clan member would begin seeing objects flying into the air as something barrelled through the area. He would continue to follow the scent while also paying attention to the chaos that was going on up ahead. Not long after a dog would burst out from the crowd in front of him, one that matched the exact description of the dog they were looking for. Not only that, but from the scent alone he was absolutely sure this was their target. With the canine running his way he thought he had an easy catch. Sif was moved to his left side to prepare to chase if he failed to catch him, and he would run forward as soon as he was sure that forward was the only way to go due to the rest of the crowd. As he went in to grab the dog it would leap up, back legs hitting the top of his head and leaping off him to go behind him without missing a step. It was unbelievable! The dog almost seemed to look him in the eyes happily as it had done so! Pausing for a moment because of the surprise would have him passed by Yumi, who was angrily chasing after the dog and knocking stuff over in the process. A couple of blinks later and he would give chase as well in an attempt to cut off the dog from another direction. They had their target in sight, now they just had to catch the damned creature.

What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris] Empty Re: What the Dog Doin' [Mission / Chaoris]

The chase was on. Past the the people and stalls Yumi ran without any sense of stopping in sight. This dog was good, weirdly good. If she didn't know any better she'd say the beast graduated out of the academy with high honors for the amount of speed it had. Although, as far as she knew, animals weren't capable of training... Or, were they? Actually that was a good question. Could animals channel chakra? Either way this wasn't the time to think about such things and Yumi shook the idea from her head.
Chaoris had tried to capture the mutt himself when the two approached at a quickened pace, but once again a dog had managed to outsmart a genin and instead used the boy as a sort of springboard to climb over and avoid his grasp. It was a sight to behold, to be honest. Did Spot get out so often that he knew every trick in the book? Little to say, Yumi suspected this wasn't his first rodeo. The Kagyua breezed past her cohort, which seemed to shake him out of his daze as he trailed behind her. Now there were two genin chasing after this dog. It certainly wasn't something you saw every day.

Jumping over a stall near the edges of the market place the dog tore through one of the tarps holding the store up, as well as knocking over its produce from wooden boxes and spilling them all over the ground. The man yelled after the dog angrily, but was cut short when Yumi followed its exact path and completely knocked him out of the way. Following this path the two would find themselves leaving the market district and into one of the back alleyways. The dog jumped onto some stacked crates leading up to the rooftops and waited on the top, as if teasing the two genin and waiting until they got close to him to jump away. But, scanning over the area the dog saw a lack of a certain girl with white hair. His brown eyes looked around as he panted loudly, wagging his tail as he did so. A few seconds of silence passed by before suddenly from behind him Yumi revealed herself, having used the invisibility jutsu to conceal herself and sneak up behind him and leap forward to grab the mutt in her arms. But, being a weirdly almighty dog, Spot managed to jump into the air once again, leaving Yumi with nothing more than a face full of rooftop. She fell to the surface face-first. Little to say, it kind of stung, like getting a face full of solid concrete. The dog left the hurting girl and ran off across the rooftops. Meanwhile Yumi waited for the splitting pain to stop before she lifted her bloody and bruised face off from the ground, slowly but surely getting up. "D-Dammit..."
Beaten by a dog... What was worse than that? She didn't even want to get up now. It was too embarrassing.

He was slightly behind compared to Yumi, by a couple of seconds at most, but he still had everything important in his sites. His partner for this mission, Sif, and Yumi, were all ahead of him to varying degrees and that allowed for him to try and plan ahead as they moved through the marketplace. The chase would eventually bring them straight through another stall, quite literally, as the dog and Yumi tore through and left a space for Sif and Chaoris to run through. The only words he heard from the owner of that produce stall were "My Cabbages!" as he yelled sorry to them and continued on out of the marketplace.

With the dog and Yuki moving down the alleyway, Sif would give chase down the alley as commanded prior. With no reason to tell him to stop, as he would keep chase until the other dog either turned to fight or gave up running. Not needing a fourth to give chase down the alley, Chaoris would run ahead parallel to the rooftop he saw the dog leap up to and would climb up when he got near the end of it. From up ahead he would watch the failure to catch the dog again as Yumi ended up facefirst in the roof tiles. He could only grimace as he saw it as he ran towards the dog that was coming directly to him. The dog was smart, but slightly cornered and knew it. The Inuzuka was positioned in a way that there was no way past him on the rooftop by jumping, and the leap down on either side was too dangerous for a dog to make directly. Because of this the dog would do a sliding turn that would slow him down and almost get him caught by the male Genin. The dog was like a greased pig, sliding out of their grasp at the last second each time. "Heads up, Yumi! He's coming back your way!" He would yell out to the girl that was laying face down on the rooftop. Sif was at her side as well, preparing to strike if the dog managed to get past her or if she didn't get up in time to try.
