Description: The 'Happy Puppy' Dog Groomers has a group of dogs that need to be taken for a work, but the manager doesn't have the room to free any of his staff. The Manager is willing to hire someone to take the dogs out for a walk. Be sure to clean up after them if they leave any little messes.
Payment: 10,000 Ryo

A new mission was given to Airi on a slip of paper. She glanced down at the sheet of paper telling her where to meet the client and what to do with the job. The 'Happy Puppy' Dog Groomers were hiring additional dog walkers. Their lack of planning lead her to take care of one of their animals and take them out for a walk. She tilted her head, thinking about why a shinobi would be hired to do such menial work. All of the things her mother told her about were high-octane and critical to the survival of the village. Walking a dog wasn't something she thought was needed to 'keep the village running'. As the red-head was walking down the street, she ended up bumping into something large. Falling back upon the ground, she winced and whimpered at the pain of smashing her rear onto the street. "Ow, ow, ow, ow!" she whimpered out before hearing the sound of heavy panting.

After rubbing her rear, she turned to look up to see a goliath of a creature and her blood ran cold for a moment. Her teeth began to chatter as a large, white, fluffy dog sat upon it's haunches and was panting heavily. It's large tongue hung out of it's mouth as it just stared at Airi with blank and empty eyes. It had a white and red rope accoutrement around it's body, letting out a happy bark at Airi's arrival. An elderly woman approached from behind the goliath animal, being shorter than the creature.

"Oh! You're the shinobi that was hired! Good-Good! Well, meet Taro. You're going to be walking him today," she said, adjusting her glasses before walking back behind the massive 6-foot tall creature and pulled out a couple trashbags and the extremely thick leash. She handed both to Airi. Confused at the trashbags, she held the bags in her hand, looked at it before looking back at the woman with an inquisitive expression. "W-what are these for?" she asked, waving the trashbags around a bit.

"Oh! That answer is simple. Taro likes to use the bathroom when he walks. Your job is to collect it in those. Oh! It's quite the pain to pick up, but you are young and spry so it shouldn't be THAT difficult, now would it?" the old woman chuckled to herself. "Now, off you go. He usually likes walking for," she said with a bit of a pause, looking upwards in thought. "six hours?" she guestimated. Airi's jaw dropped to the floor. The old woman chuckled and started to walk back into the grooming service. With that, Taro stood up on all fours and took off like a bolt of lightning, dragging Airi along.

"Let... me... down! You fucking demon dog!" she cried out as the dog went on a relentless sprint, dragging her along. She was being dragged against her will by a behemoth of a dog. The dog ran in a straight line, dragging her along like a ribbon attached to a pole. Her body flailed freely until the dog came to a quick stop just to quickly turn the corner down the street with her body slamming into the side of a building with a dull thud. However, she was instantly peeled off of the building with the quick acceleration of the dog as it continued to sprint down the street like a bolt of white lightning. Shinobi and people alike moved out of the way of the barreling animal as it plowed through the streets. Those perceptive enough could see Airi balling her eyes out, pleading to whatever gods would listen, as she was pulled like she wasn't even there. As the dog continued, it stopped abruptly again and started to raise it's leg up to it's ear and scratch the back of it's ear. Her momentum continued, but slammed into the back of the massive dog. She went 'splat' into the fluffy white fur.

The slam didn't seem to faze Taro as he continued to scratch at the back of it's ear while Airi finally landed upon terra-firma. More prayers were given that the roller-coaster of fear had come to a stop. Her hair disheveled and her clothing tossed around and wrinkled, she walked over towards Taro's front and took on an 'intimidating' posture. "Look here, asshole! I'm the human and you're the dog. I'm supposed to be walking you, not the other way around. You need to listen to me!" she scolded the animal. It didn't seem to pay much attention to Airi's ranting and raving or any other movements she made. As she was fuming and recovering from her rant, there was a rather loud set of laughs coming from across the street. She turned towards the sound, her teeth clenched and breath whistling out from between her teeth. She was livid and didn't like the idea of people laughing at her pain.

The duo that were laughing were young men in their early twenties, rather plain looking, but wearing chuunin vests with the Konohagakure headband upon their foreheads. "If it isn't Taro!" one of the men said before reaching up and petting the dog upon the top of it's head. The demon dog quickly sat as it received attention from the two older shinobi. Her body relaxed as she watched the two men seem to tame the beast. A look of confusion crossed her face, wondering how these two were able to quell the creature and she was just dragged around. "I don't get it. What are you guys doing differently than me?" she asked, pointing at the two with the hand holding the trash bags. The two shinobi turned to look towards Airi, their eyes turning down towards the trash bags and laughter filled the air once more.

"Taro hasn't pooped yet," said one of the shinobi as the other one shook his head, almost feeling her pain. Something crept across her mind, telling her that these two have also had to walk Taro in the past. Everything began to click with her. "Oh, Taro isn't really that complicated. He's like other dogs. Be nice to him and command respect and he will obey. And yelling won't do anything to help that," the eldest of the two mentioned in a calm and level voice before going up and burying his face into Taro's fur and gave him scratches behind the ear. "Oh, he'll grow on you. Don't worry. We've had to walk him in the past too."

Taro shook himself off, which created distance between himself and the other shinobi. Pre-emptively, one of the shinobi simply saluted to Airi. "Well, seeya," he said before the two stepped back simultaneously. "Leaving alr---" she started to ask before her voice started to trail off as Taro took off like a bolt of white lightning, back down the street.

"Poor girl," said both of the older shinobi at the same time.

Airi was now this dog's new drag toy. Tears streamed from her eyes, her cheeks and mouth distort from the beating winds as she clung on for dear life as the massive creature that she was supposed to walk continued on his merry way through the village proper, leaving her, destruction, and mayhem in it's wake. Her body was battered and beaten from slamming into a myriad of things -- most of which being buildings and trees. The dog lead her to the Senju Forest where her fate may be sealed by this demonic monstrosity. The sounds of loud sobbing could be heard approaching, coming to a fevre pitch, and fading away. Before reaching the innards of the Senju forest, the creature skid to a halt and with a quick lashing of a whip, she let go of the leash and was flung directly into the trees. Several trees fell as she was slammed into them. A few moments passed and she pulled herself out of the rubble. Her hair was a complete mess, her clothing had many tears and rips, and several small branches and kindling protruded from her puffy red hair. Her face was battered and bruised and all she could do was look at the demonic dog and cry in relief.

"Oh thank the gods. You finally stopped. _{For now.}" She pulled herself out of the rubble, crawling over what should have killed her and made her way towards the dog. It was sniffing the ground, pressing it's large nose directly into the ground and started to move around in circles. Being as she had never owned a dog nor taken care of one, she had no idea what this ritual could be. She stood at a distance and simply watched what it was doing. She had reckoned only about an hour had passed since the carnage had begun and she began to think and rethink her life as a shinobi. If a monstrous dog like this was strong enough to bring her to her knees, what would a crazy S-Class shinobi do to her? She shook her head and noticed Taro sniffing her. Taking an instinctive step backwards, she noticed the large dog lifting it's leg right at her.

"Oh no! No no no! No no no no no! I know what that means! And you're not gonna.." she said as she quickly moved out of the way as the demonic creature began to relieve itself. Finding sanctuary at a safe distance and at a safe angle, she started to look around while she waited for the dog to finish. Seconds went by. Minutes went by. Airi began to grow restless and turned to look towards the creature, seeing it finally lower it's leg. "How much water did you drink?" she said astonished. This was the first time she had seen a creature take THIS long to relieve themselves. Looking downward, she grimaced and noticed the massive lake of urine underneath.

An idea sprung into her head. She wasn't going to be dragged around any longer! With a single hop, she jumped onto the creature's back. There wasn't much for resistance from Taro, almost as if this creature had experienced this before. The lack of resistance took Airi by surprise, keeping a firm hold of the leash and holding onto the red and white rope that wrapped around the creature, using it as a way to steer this massive dog. "Alright! I don't know how to ride you, but I'm sure as hell not going to be pulled by---" she was about to finish before the dog started to run rampantly through the forest, narrowly dodging trees. Looking backwards, she noticed that if she was still clinging for dear life back there, she would most definitely be a corpse by now. As her attention was focused behind the animal, she noticed the creature jump high into the air and is now starting to run along the trees and jumping from branch to branch like it was a ninken in it's previous life. Turning her head back towards the front, she had very little time to react to a branch that would, most assuredly, take her head off. Slamming her body down onto the dog, she narrowly avoided being decapitated by it. While she was in a much safer position now, she wasn't quite 'out of the woods' right now.

For the first time since the walk had begun, she wasn't being beaten to death by buildings and trees, but now sitting much more comfortably within the fur of this massive dog. It's movement weren't wild and free, nor were it's movements aggressive in any nature. The swift run turned into a trot as it ran through the forest. Darkness appeared overhead for the majority of the journey since their last departure before coming to a crawl. The massive dog's movements were now slowed to a slow walk as the two approached a small clearing in the forest. Her eyes squint as the sun peaked through the canopy into a beautiful green meadow near a small babbling brook. The sound of the water filled her ears as the creature stopped to take a small drink from the rushing stream. The beauty of nature overwhelmed her during their brief moment of repose. It was, as if, this dog had taken this path many times before.

After the reprieve, the two continued through the thick wood in the slow walk. Still mounted on Taro's back, their return into the forest caused the creature to finally come to a stop, sitting upon it's haunches. She used this opportunity to jump off of Taro's back and simply beheld the sight in front of her. Two large mounds with a cross, made of sticks, placed upon each mound. Upon each cross were large collars. It must have been a long time since these mounds were created as growth had taken over, covering each mound in a layer of green.

Taro first started off, his head turning from grave to grave and panting with his usual demeanor. His tongue poking out the corner of his mouth with the same empty expression before pushing it's paws forward, placing a paw upon each of the graves and placed his muzzle upon his paws. It took a moment to finally strike her. A moment of curiosity turned into a moment of empathy. Finding herself standing next to Taro, she placed a gentle hand upon his head and pet the animal gently. Now she understood why he was so rampant and wild up to this point. She simply bowed her head and offered a small prayer to the graves she was standing next to. What unimaginable pain did Taro go through? Her eyes began to water as she leaned down to hug the animal, wrapping her arms around it's fluffy white body.

"I'm sorry, Taro. I didn't know. I can't imagine the kind of suffering you had to go through," she said before sitting back up from the hug, gentle tears streaming down her cheeks. "I guess you aren't much different than people huh?" she said, wiping the tears from her left eye before looking back over the graves; a gentle glint could be seen from the mounds. A familiar glint near the base of each cross. Releasing her grip on the creature, she starting to hand dig the area near the cross, now gripping Taro's attention. There was no anger with the creature. It was, as if, he allowed her to dig where she did. Resting in it's own shallow grave were shinobi headbands with stains of blood clearly visible in the cloth bands. Her hands shook as she held the large headbands before thrusting herself onto Taro and started to cry into his white fur.

The very thought that this could've been the same fate her mother faced scared her. The very thought that this could be the same fate that she had before her also frightened her. Ninken were also shinobi and they had the same, difficult life of servitude. But they had their friends with them. Friends they grew up with that had their backs. She didn't have these friends due to the nomadic nature of her upbringing and because of the indoctrination of the Hyuga Clan - at least those that didn't accept her circumstance of birth. She didn't hate anyone for her circumstance, but she did wish she was dealt another hand. After drying her eyes upon Taro's fur, she moved back up the mounds and hung the headbands off of the crosses, letting them be displayed for all those who would pass by.

As the headbands were hung off of the crosses, Taro cocked his head back and let out a painful and joyous howl. The sound of his pain was obvious and all she could do was stand-by and watch and listen to the massive, goliath creature tell the world how much he missed his parents. "Let it all out, Taro. Let it all out."

After night has fallen, the two returned to the village. This time, she wasn't made to be a streaming ornament for a swift return. The pair returned, as one, with Airi mounted upon Taro's back. Her hair was frazzled and thrown about, her clothes were cut and torn and ruined from being tossed around, and her body was filthy and dirty, but her mind was clear. The two returned to the village, having passed by the two older shinobi. A look of awe in their eyes, saying to her that they weren't even capable of accomplishing what she was doing now, but also understanding what she had gone through -- having experienced that as well. Airi simply raised her hand to them in greetings and farewell as the duo continued back towards the grooming center. A gentle hand reached up to gently pet Taro on the cheek.

After returning to the 'Happy Puppy' Dog Groomers, she was greeted by the elderly lady that gave her the mission earlier that day. She took a long look at Airi for a moment and nodded her head. She knew exactly what Airi had gone through. She had handled Taro for many, many years now and had always hired shinobi to assist with doing this. "Every year I hire a shinobi to take on this responsibility. Not only, as you know, it is quite dangerous -- a bit too much so for normal people, but to serve as a valuable lesson to newer shinobi," the woman said as she approached Taro to wipe the tear stains forming upon his muzzle. "The life of a shinobi is hard. I don't envy the life you all go through. I've known Taro since he was a puppy and his parents loved him so very much," she said as her demeanor turned into a more playful one, giving Taro pets and scratches upon the back of his ear, causing the dog to drum his foot upon the ground.

"But you did good work, girl. I'll take responsibility for Taro from here," she finished. She leaned forward. "I'll take him next year and the year after that if you would like!" she said enthusiastically. Giving her a small chuckle, the old lady shook her head. "No need, child. There are other young shinobi that could take the same lesson you did," she replied. Airi just gave the woman a big smile before dismounting from Taro's back. As if, on queue, Taro stood up, arched his back and...

"Do you still have those bags on you?" the woman asked. "No," Airi responded as she recoiled from the smell of what was being created. "Don't worry... I'll... help," Airi finished while holding her breath. The elderly woman retreated back into the building to grab supplies to clean up this mess.
