The Budding Surgeon's High Impact Training

Innocence had arrived early at the Konoha Grand Training Facility. She had her pack of new things including her trusty dusty training sword. The Chuunin Exams were coming up and she was not going to get caught unprepared.

I've been a genin since forever....but that changes soon. I'm going to earn my spot as a Chuunin and surpass Mercedes!

Innocence set her pack down and started with a series of push ups. The young girl was weak. Incredibly weak. She had never done well in the Academy and it was rumored that her instructor had passed her on more out of pity than merit. She detested that rumor, partially because she had worked so hard and partially because she had no real way of confirming whether it was true or false. The harder she worked, the more she fell behind. The only thing she found solace in was her medical textbooks. She had torn through hundreds of pages of dense treatises, studies, periodicals and journals. She had spend so much time in the hospital that she was sometimes mistaken for a live-in patient. It made sense given the sheer volume of material sometimes drove her to the break of madness. And for all that learning, her physical capabilities remained stagnant.

That was going to change starting today. Innocence had learned much and more about the human body. She had learned how to heal it and by extension how to improve it. As she pumped her body up and down in a rhythmic fashion, she decided that would be her Ninja Way. To use medicine to master war. And she'd start by learning the Chakra Enhanced Strength Technique.

They couldn't teach me because they didn't know....They didn't know what I know. And I know best!

Innocence continued her push ups. She kept at it until she felt her bones ache and her skin break. Then she switched to doing the push ups on her knuckles. She did another full set before collapsing and lying on her back. She did her best to catch her breath but the sheer exhaustion and intensity of the training had her lungs screaming. So this is what those lugheads feel when they work out? Innocence had enough trouble learning Kenjutsu. She couldn't imagine the intense physical regimen that Taijutsu specialists put up. That was level of brutal work was simply not for her. Innocence allowed herself to rest a bit longer before getting up and heading to the nearby water fountain. She drank thirstily before sitting down again. She couldn't afford to lose the heat of the moment. Mercedes had scolded her for resting too long in between sets. Innocence knew that she was right. The medical science was solid on that point, but hearing it from her older sister made her not want to comply. The sassy genin, however, could not blame her annoying sister now that she was training alone so she pushed herself off the bench and began a brisk jog around the Training Center track. After she was done with this, she spent time applying her new found physical conditioning with sword katas. In order to better help with her training, she learned the Shadow Clone Jutsu. After that, it was time for her to get her stamina up as that would help with her Kenjutsu as well.

Innocence ran around the track at top speed her black curls were bouncing in the air as she jogged up and down the track. She felt the wind pushing against her back, spurring her forward as she continued the exercise. Innocence ran for several minutes before stopping and taking a break. She then picked up the pace again and continued her jog. She really didn't like jogging. It made her feel like hell and sometimes it was even nauseating. She continued running at her top speed only stopping occasionally to catch her breath. She had quite a bit about cardiovascular health and while she knew the optimal way to train her endurance and speed, she hated it. It sucked. Innocence was never the type to enjoy physical training but for her, this was all a necessity. She simply could not be caught getting winded at the Exams. There were bound to be talented genin from all across the country and if she showed that she sucked then they'd almost certainly take her for a joke. Innocence took her conditioning and applied it to her sword skills. She spent a few hours practicing the Hazy Moon Night with her sword, slicing up a log and continuing to work at the technique until she had it fully practiced. After she was done with this, she spent time applying her new found physical conditioning and learned the Secret Sword: Moonlight. Both techniques required a fair bit of practice and hard work. Innocence was so used to constantly dropping her sword that it took a lot of time and hard work to get these techniques right. Every time she dropped her sword, she remembered what was at stake. She had been laughed at for too long and had been made a fool and mockery throughout her time in the Academy. As a shinobi, it was hard enough learning those techniques but for someone who had spent four years getting to the minimum level of competency required to even wield the weapon, the challenges were harder. Fortunately, Innocence had one tool in her arsenal that had proved invaluable for speeding up her ability to know and work with blades: medicine. She knew the nerves she needed to work, where she needed to flare her chakra, how to practice and she even went as far as to imagine the sword as an extension of her scalpel.

Innocence finally finished running her race around the track. She took another quick break before heading to the sword training section. She had her medical textbook and reference notes with her. The goal this time was to put her medical knowledge into practice. She had been devising a Kenjutsu style based on her knowledge of surgery and human anatomy. The martial artist had been hopeless with respect to learning how to fight with swords the traditional way, but perhaps by making the art form her own she could achieve something much greater. Innocence flipped open to her notes regarding lower abdominal surgery. She pulled out one of the rusty trusty training swords and slashed about with it, the blade made a whizzing sound as he cut through the air.

Okay....think of it like a panniculectomy surgery on a patient with a history of abdominal cramps. Quick and slow through the trunk but increasing in speed and intensity.

Innocence recalled all she knew about medicine. In particular, the surgeries and procedures she had performed to cut out diseased organs or even remove poisons from a human body. One technique came immediately to mind: the Delicate Illness Extraction Technique. Just as how she would make incisions to cut and removed toxins, she would do the same with her katana to remove flesh and blood.

Innocence took a deep breath and practiced her forms with that in mind. She saw the blade as an extra long scalpel carving through a giant. She increased her intensity and tempo as though she were painting a portrait, but in reality she was conducting a surgery or sorts. The kind that was of the utmost significance. Innocence continued through her sword kata while occasionally flipping through her medical books and notes. As she practiced her swordplay, she took notes on what worked and what didn't as she slowly began to sketch out a viable fighting style.

Delicate Illness Extraction Technique [B-Rank Canon] - 200 WC

Innocence then decided to switch gears to focus on studying Genjutsu. She picked up a book on the subject and started reading it while getting in some leg work outs. She held the book up, keeping it splayed in between her fingers as she performed workout squats. Genjutsu was something that she had long been interested in but had seldom made time for. It required a keen intellect, something that she did not lack for in the least. It also required precise chakra control, an area where she was of average skill. This meant that while she understood the principles of illusions quite well, she'd need to put in a significant amount of effort if she was going to truly soar on this subject matter. She had already sketched ideas for some illusions and she had made it part of her curriculum when working at the hospital and training in her spare time. It wouldn't be as easy as Ijutsu but it certainly would not be as hard as Kenjutsu. One of the Genjutsu that caught her attention was Temple of Nirvana which was excellent for pacifying crowds and knocking opponents clean out. The surgeon spent some time working on the technique, learning it, memorizing the chakra fluctations necessary and getting minute details like the feathers just right. Innocence continued to work out and read before finishing the book. She then picked up another book and started to review it carefully. This one contained more information about Nightmare Genjutsu which she found intriguing.

Innocence decided to spend some more time learning about Demonic Illusions Tree Binding Death. She cracked open some reference materials regarding the technique and studied up on it. She paid particular attention to the bits about its history, the necessary handseals for executing the jutsu and other critical important information. She also practiced molding her chakra in the appropriate way for the technique to be properly executed. She didn't have a living person to train on so instead she focused the majority of her time on getting the chakra formulation and control exactly correct so that in a life scenario she could loose the technique whenever she needed to. She worked on these drills for a few hours, trying to get it just perfectly right.

This is the most boring and tedious thing ever Innocence thought.

She flickered through the handseals again drilling herself on the basics of the jutsu. After a few more hours of practice and hard work, she thought she had it mastered but she decided to leave nothing to chance. She picked up another book of Genjutsu and crossreferenced what she had learned and practiced with what was in that book. What should found interesting about Tree Binding Death was that it could be well-paired with her Kenjutsu as was often the case with this kinds of techniques. Innocence made a note to herself to consider making combination jutsu where the two styles could be meshed together.

Tree Binding Death [Canon B-Rank Genjtsu] - 241/200 LEARNED

Innocence decided to follow that one up by learning about the String Bean Illusion Technique. Just reading about this jutsu was making Innocence hungry, so she stopped to go get something to eat. The genin paused her training and fished out a small lunchbox she had packed for herself. Gone were the days of Yui or her mother packing her lunches. She was a big girl now and she'd be making her own fun! Ordinarily, one would expect someone like Innocence to just pack it with candy or other treats. But that wasn't the case. Innocence was well-read on nutrition and she knew exactly what fuel her body needed if she was going to come out on top during this year's Chuunin Exams. She scarfed down a bean sprout sandwich barely tasting the thing. She then snapped into some pork jerky and washed it down with a bottle of water. While she ate, she studied. She read up on the technique, the handsigns it required and the chakra control and configuration formula. She could read these Genjutsu notations like the back of her hand at this point. It was all really dry material. Once she was done eating and studying, she set her lunchbox aside and practiced flexing her chakra as descirbed in the textbook. Good stuff!

String Bean Binding Illusion [Canon B-Rank Genjtsu] - 217/200 LEARNED

Innocence took another short break and decided to get back to Kenjutsu. She had went back to her textbooks and decided to finish sketching out her custom Kenjutsu style. This one would be called the "Dissectonomy Form." She picked up a training sword and began to wield the blade artfully as though she were a fighting surgeon. She walked up to a training dummy and began striking it with her sword, attacking it and cutting at it until she had damaged it severely. She then moved onto another training dummy and repeated the process against that one as well.

She practiced holding the Katana and getting its specific forms right. She had developed a few kata that would allow her to practice the precision and forms. She went through each kata slowly focusing on getting the movements right rather than the speed itself as that was giving her a significant amount of trouble at the moment. She could get over that by continuing to work on the kata themselves. She would get out her medical reference text book and then take notes as to the specific parts of the body that she cut into and struck in order for her to be effective against an opponent. She spent a lot of time working on her blade handling skills as that was critical to this particular form. Additionally, she used chakra to slightly enhance her strength so that her attempts at using this particular form would go much more smoothly.  After a lot of practice, she had mastered this Form. Innocence also decided to take the time to learn the Double False Surroundings Technique. She already had a solid foundation in that regard and she figured that now was a good time to further build upon it. She studied up on the illusion closing, figuring out how to sculpt the illusions through memorization and chakra flexing exercises. Innocence wondered if any of the Exam participants knew about Genjutsu and how to release it. They most certainly had to or else they wouldn't really be able to call themselves Chuunin-level shinobi. She did a basic bit of reading on last year's Exams and from what she could gather and from what Airi had told her there'd be a tournament. The winner of that tournament would be crowned and would be given a great deal of honor and glory. She had worked on the precision of her chakra control for sometime and now it was so good that she didn't really have much trouble practicing Genjutsu on her own although she'd have loved the opportunity to use it on someone. Innocence took a quick break but went back to it almost immediately and continued to make progress.

The next Kenjutsu style that she would spend a lot of time mastering would be the Tenketonomy Form.

I have extensive notes on this one....shouldn't be too much trouble at all. I just need to remember that Kenjutsu is like a surgery of sorts...

This Form was a bit more difficult for her as it would rely on combat speed which was a significant challenge for her. Innocence had spent a lot of time conditioning her body and improving her battle speed, but it was still a difficult process for her. She had worked hard by herself to increase her ability to move in close quarters and had drilled on the subject with her sister. It was indeed a tough thing for Innocence as she found that she was still often liable to drop her sword or allow it to get knocked out of her hands. Hopefully, drilling down this style would help remediate that issue.

The key has got to be in the way I hold it. I keep loosening my grip when I meet resistance. Maybe its a fear response and maybe its just a defect in my grip....either way I'll need to correct it. Even if I have to perform surgery on myself.

Innocence spent a lot of time doing running drills wither sword for this style and when she practiced the kata she did not focus on precision but rather speed. She made sure to move her feet a lot and to stay a moving target throughout. She could not afford to be caught flat footed when using this style so she even added some extra weights to her hands, ankles and sword to slow her down so that she would be able to move like the wind when required. It was difficult and she stumbled a lot. She even dropped her sword a couple of times. She practiced again so as to not allow that to happen and even studied her medical textbook to get some ideas on how to wield it and what parts of the body would be most effective to hit while utilizing this Form. After she was finished with Kenjutsu practice, Innocence decided to tackle some more difficult Genjutsu. She decided to study up on the Bringer-of-Darkness technique this one was incredibly advanced so while she would study it now, she would eventually need to do a lot more work to make it a viable strategy in live combat including training with her sister but she decied that now was the best time to get a really good start. She flipped to the relevant portion of the textbook and began tracking out the way the technique worked. She took notes, studied and even made flash cards. It was quite advanced and the only reason she could even begin to understand the complexities of the technique was because she was significantly smarter than average and had a healthy understanding of the human brain. She had dissected them and witnessed live brain surgeries with some of the best physicians in the Fire Country. These traits combined with her dogged pursuit of greatness allowed her to comprehend the material. Eventually, when she got in touch with Mercedes again they'd need to go over the finer specifics of making the technique work but Innocence was confident that she would be able to learn it in time for the Exams.

Innocence figured that after such high intensity training, it would be good to sit back and relax for a bit. She decided to recover by eating a few energy bars and drinking some water. After she was sufficiently hydrated and rested, she started doing sit ups and lower impact exercises. It was getting late and soon she'd need to head home. After doing her sit-ups, Innocence took the time to lift a few more weights. She wasn't a Taijutsu master but it couldn't hurt getting a little bit of a work out in. She did need to have some degree of strength if she was going to wield her sword with anything approaching competency. She rounded out her training in Kenjutsu with learning Dance of the Crescent Moon. She took what she knew regarding Shadow Clones and ran through the attack several times until she was confident that she could execute it in a high pressure environment. It would normally be difficult to get the sword attacks but right but all of the time and effort she had put into her Kenjutsu was beginning to pay off. She could find herself getting more comfortable with swordplay and when she used her clones, her learning was even faster.

"Training thuckth. I wonder if all the other genin are training jutht ath hard for examth"

She said as she packed up her stuff to head home for the day. She'd be back at it again training just as hard tomorrow and the day after that, and the day after that and so on until the big day arrived.

Dance of the Crescent Moon [A-Rank Canon Jutsu] - 250 WC

Innocence was back at the Konoha Grand Training Facility for another day of hard work. She decided to get right into practicing her Kenjutsu. This time she'd be focused on learning the Kosectonomy Form which she had been working on in the spare moments she had at the hospital. She was getting better at adapting her Kenjutsu to something that she could understand and relate to. It was just as Mercedes said, she could only get so far copying others and doing as they did. The secret to true sword play invovled basically taking what you knew and creating something that was all your own. The Kosectonomy Form was her latest foray into that world. Innocence decided to begin with weight training. She fastened all sort sof weights onto her ankles and wrists and even her swords. Then she started doing sprints in them and then after that she did Kata in them and then she studied her book.

Innocence was slowly getting faster and more competent with her blade as a result of the training session. The Kenjutsu style was fairly complex and was of a high rank, owing to the strong degree of medical knowledge and skill in movement that it required but because Innocence was able to visualize the katas the way she was able to visualize a specific surgery targeting certain body parts she was able to excel at them. Despite it being within a domain of knowledge, it still took a lot of effort and hard work to master. It was one thing to have it be practiced and another to have it battle ready. Innocence worked at it until she was confident that she could fight in a live match with the style. Innocence decided to pair this with another round of learning Medical Ninjutsu. This time she set her sights on Yin Healing Wound Destruction, an incredibly complicated and difficult to pull of form of Ijutsu that allowed for preventative healing. Innocence devoured all the literature she had regarding the technique and when that was done, she began practicing by cutting herself with a kunai. It was a rather painful and rudimentary form of training but once she got the basics down, she was sure she could replicate it in more difficult conditions. Ijutsu after all was her specialty. In order to make sure she had a perfect understanding of the technique, she wrote down the biologica and chakratic equations that made the technique possible at maximum speed, 100x in a row then afterwards she performed it several more times until the point where she thought she might actually run out of chakra. She was incredibly tired and could feel herself getting winded quite easily. It was a taxing thing and was beginning to bother her how much chakra Ijutsu cost her. Innocence felt that her medical techniques should be reduced in cost given how good she was at it but unfortunately her skill with Ninjutsu was not up to that level. Phew!

Innocence decided to take a break from Kenjutsu and decided to go with something that she actually enjoyed. She cracked open her medical textbooks and started studying the science of the brain. She spent hours of looking over her notes, making new ones and sketching chakra-chemistry pathways. She knew that the technique she was making was incredibly complex and that if she messed up the chakra-chemistry equations then she'd jack up her own brain which would be a rather humiliating and definitive end to her shinobi career. Therefore, she spent a lot of time working on that particular aspect.

Once she was done, she began running simulations and practice activations. The technique that she had in mind would affect her central nervous system starting with her brain. It would increase her neural responsiveness thereby allowing her to push her muscles faster and quicker. She would need the boost to Speed as she was not the best with physicality and it was necessary for her to get better at that if she was going to face off against other genin in the Chuunin Exams. Innocence crafted the technique so as not to require any handsigns. She instead practiced sending her chakra into her brain and pushes each fragment of chakra through her nervous system. Once she was certain she had perfected the process, she did a trial run. She felt her nerves come alive with power as she consistently timed bursts of chakra into them. She then began to run laps around the area feeling her body move faster than it should.

Chakra Enhanced Speed [Custom B-Rank Ijutsu] - 261/250 LEARNED

Innocence decided to try her hand at running around the training ground for a bit longer before stopping. She decided that it was time to do the same for her Coordination. She did a lot of studying and working out how the technique would apply to her speed in relation to herself. The math and chemistry was similar but a tad bit more complicated. She sat down and worked on it for hours and hours. She watched other people train while she burned through books and re-worked her equations to allow for it. As she did, she felt her understanding of human anatomy grow by leaps and bounds. She felt that her understanding was indeed growing stronger because she was able to recall dense and extremely complicated medical information while working.

Innocence started doing push ups while she started studying. She then switched back to working again and shooting off her chakra through nervous system after doing a lot of math work. She then picked up a kunai and then started stabbing up a training dummy to try out her new enhanced coordination. She continued to stab it up and keep doing it until the training dummy was minced up. Innocence wasn't happy with how fast she was going so she went back to the drawing board. She re-sketched it and made it even better, re-working it to work even better.

Eventually, she finished the technique.

Chakra Enhanced Coordination [Custom B-Rank Ijutsu] - 250/250 LEARNED

Innocence decided that after this studying and hard work creating jutsu, she decided to rest. Innocence brought out her pack and ate her lunch. She ate a roast beef sandwich with mustard, carrot sticks, apples and a bottle of water. As she ate, she read more textbooks on Genjutsu and Ijutsu. The interplay between the two subjects is fascinating and she could read about it all day. And she almost did, she poured over the two books at the same time. Alternating between taking bites of her sandwich and studying hard. Once she was done, she put away her lunch, put the books away and went right back to physical conditioning. She started working out even harder. She knew that she could only get so strong before the Chuunin Exams so she would need to use her knowledge of Ijutsu to push herself even further than physically possible. She knew that there was an even stronger version of the Chakra Enhanced Strength Technique and she was committed to learning it before the Exams. After all the physical training she had done, Innocence took some time out to study the Chakra Enhanced Strength Technique again, learning the basics before practicing how to perform the bigger and better version of the jutsu. It required perfect concentration and timing, elements that were never necessarily Innocence's strong suit in combat but when it came to chakra and the human body she excelled at it. This is great....not only can I use the increased strength for striking....I can also use it to lift super heavy things if I ever need to. Its the perfect technique for someone like me.... She realized.

"Damn I'm going to pathth out...." Innocence said as she began to feel faint from the intensity of the workout. She took a quick break and then went to go jump rope. She increased the intensity and speed of her jumps as she went on.

Chakra Enhanced Strength Version Two - 300 WC

Having done a lot of good work for the day, Innocence left for the day. The next morning she returned with twice as many books. She was going to make today a study day. She hopped up on a bench with her favorite pen and highlight marker. She laid on her stomach and kept reading and working through various problems related to advanced Genjutsu. Innocence hadn't gotten a chance to practice her illusion abilities in earnest but she was making significant progress in terms of her understanding of the mechanics of Genjutsu. She knew that she could sculpt techniques of her own making. Innocence spent some time talking to herself and working out how she was going to build more Genjutsu. She needed a unifying theme for her illusions and she had quite a few ideas on how to get that done. After she had finished her bout of creativity, she turned to the hefty task of learning Genjutsu Binding one of the most difficult and devastating illusions that one could learn. It locked the entire body up making the opponent incredibly vulnerable. Of course, it came at the cost of freezing the user in place as they focused on limiting their opponent's actions. This was such an advanced technique that Innocence was just getting a head start on learning it. Eventually, she'd loop up with Mercedes and work out the details of how to perform the illusion. It was easily one of the hardest to grasp and while she pent time leanring the fundamentals here, it would be her older sister who really showed her how to perform the technique well. It was a long road to adequacy with the jutsu but once it was finished it would be a powerful boon in her arsenal. Alright, finally done with it!

Genjutsu Binding [S-Rank Canon Genjutsu] - 300 WC

Innocence finished up with her studying and decided to get in some hard work training. She practiced using her sword and slashing at a training dummy. After a few hours of work, she switched to small arms. She picked up two kunai and began cutting at a training dummy multiple times. She sliced deep into the wood and felt her fingers moving nimbly as she did so. Eventually, Innocence would switch back to her katana where she went through her katas. She wore through at least three training swords this way and she did not stop until her hands were numb and sweat was pouring from her forehead. Innocence's normally long and well groomed hair was a wild mess and her bows were coming undone. She decided to push past her limits and learn one more technique. This one would be the Clone Great Explosion Technique. She'd practice the jutsu quite a bit on the open fields, making a lot of noise and causing a significant amount of disturbance on the training fields. By the time she was truly done, Innocence was exhausted

"I can't thtop now....I need to keep puthhing. Need to get fathter and thtronger." Innocence said as she heaved in deep breaths. Innocence fell to a knee and remembered all that she had to prove. She wasn't just fighting for her own legacy's sake but that of her family's. Innocence rose again and continued to practice her kata for hours. Eventually, she had finished up her training, packed up her stuff and went home.
