Kiyoko was starting to see the truth in Oda’s words. He at least wasn’t the young teenager he appeared to be, not in the way he carried himself. Or in the way that he spoke; he had a solid understanding of the responsibility he carried as his clan’s leader. Something she didn’t expect could simply be learned by rote. Not that she would know. Her clan was lost to time, she had only the barest memories of her village, her lands and worst of all her family name was long gone. While she still held out hope that she would see her parents again, that light of hope dimmed with each passing day.
With a quick shake of her head she forced her focus to return to the present just in time to see a happy wave and a smile directed at Oda as they walked by. It warmed her heart a little to see it; the faces were so worried, or concerned. Maybe not something she could peg down as actual fear, but close enough to make her uncomfortable. While she had worked her whole life on her chosen skills in order to be taken seriously, she had never wanted anyone to fear her.
She would nod as Oda spoke of establishing relations with the Shogun, it was a wise decision. Kensai had come here to rebuild, and part of that she suspected was ensuring the clans felt safe and were able to grow knowing they would be protected. She made a mental note to bring this idea up with the Shogun the next time she had the opportunity. “I believe the Shogun would welcome such relations. From what I have observed he is intent on building the Land of Iron back up to its former strength and beyond.”
With a polite bow to the man sitting outside Oda’s home she would make her way towards the door at his second invitation. The thought of a warm house and hot tea was enough to dissuade her from musings of leaving. Standing next to Oda as they had walked here was enough to ward off frostbite, but she’d been in the cold long enough that she still felt chilled to her core, even if she was unwilling to admit it out loud. Kiyoko would raise an eyebrow at the ‘more normal’ comment, she supposed he meant the heat - but that was far from the thing that made him less normal. She was currently standing in a village that was filled with people who could be hundreds of years old for all she knew, it hardly seemed like anyone here was ‘normal’. An awkward grin accompanied her bow of thanks as she made to follow him in. “My thanks again Lord Oda. I’m curious, perhaps you could share your thoughts on your plans with the Lord Shogun?”
