The unexpected kick against Kotsubo's neck did leave him a bit winded, but not as heavily as anticipated thanks to Kotsubo's heavy durability compared to the masked ninja's average human kick, it left him slightly off balance but he still had enough perceptive sense to draw out his sword with his hand already on the sheath's handle, trying his best to push through the dizziness from the masked ninja's and focus on the upcoming shurikens, trying to predict their landings to no avail. He clashed his sword against one of the shurikens going for his chest but the other one sneaked through his blade and pierced his blue skin, he couldn't predict the third shuriken and therefore pierced his spare arm that wasn't wielding the sword. He collided the final shuriken and it just cut through the side of his face across his head, still flying behind him.

Already winded from trying to block the shuriken, his focus had been completely lost on the descending masked ninja and without much prediction. He tried to move but with the very small time frame and winded state he's in, the kunai plunged into his back, inviting a roar out of Kotsubo from sheer pain. He was breathing heavily at this point, collapsing on one knee after the kunai plunged into him like that. "Ugh... you!" he underestimated them severely, and paid the price for it.

Kotsubo's stuff(again):

Nozomi reached into a pouch as she watched their match continue on. Seeing as she hadn't quite got enough rest to restore her stamina to full, she opted to replenish it with two military ration pills. Her motions were really casual, and popped the two pills as if they were candy. It quickly became obvious that Kotsubo was not doing so well against his opponents. Rolling her eyes, Nozomi knew she'd have to step in and fight. This was, after all, one of the reasons she had been sent on the mission. Her combat prowess was nothing to sneeze at.

Thing was, she'd been largely ignored up until this point in time, and Kotsubo hadn't moved from his old position. Moving her hands into the dragon, snake, and bird hand seals, Nozomi leapt to her feet, her target set with the male ANBU who attacked Kotsubo from behind. As she was leaving the ground, her hand formed the half tiger hand seal, to body flicker behind the ANBU from a stand still.

Her hands trailing an aura of petal blades that seemed to follow her movement, Nozomi's stance upon reappearing behind him was that of the Spring Chant style. Launching three quick jabs to his right shoulder and tricep, the young blonde wanted to shred the muscles in his arm and render it unusable, assisted by her Dance of the Misty Petal technique. Her biggest hope was to catch him off guard, as she'd been overlooked, probably due to her rank as a genin, and probably wasn't expected to move very fast or have very many difficult techniques.

She hated when people looked down on her, but had to admit it gave her certain advantages. After all, if they'd attacked her first from a distance, she might not have realized, as she'd fallen asleep. Note to self, don't do that without securing the perimeter. Or at least, note to self: Kotsubo was a useless lookout, he'd let them sneak up on him and hadn't woke her up before then.

Getting out of the water was one thing, getting out of it safely was another thing, despite her confidence and her desire to draw out an opponent, Yomi's entire mind was being awash with various scenarios. There was a big chance that an enemy would rather go fo a surprise rather than face her directly. It seemed in the end, that the chuunin would not have her wish granted, as it seemed she would be facing a coward rather than a real opponent.

Just as her hands came together to make the necessary handseals for her hidden mist technique, she could hear the rustling of leaves, sending her on edge and sure as hell, an instant later she could hear the crackling sound of a raiton charged technique. With the various spars with Nozomi and the rather recent struggle against that strange invader in the winter period, Yomi had attuned herself even better to battle than most of her companions, except for maybe Nozomi herself. "Tsk..." Forcing her chakra flow to go beyond its limit, letting her muscles gorge themselves on her power, the chuunin utilized the properties of her family's secret taijutsu style.

In a matter of only a single instant, Yomi's muscles reacted to her input, from the moment her eyes could see the flash of lightning piercing through the tree in front of her, her body moved at a speed beyond that of a regular chuunin, exemplifying just how powerful and how useful her taijutsu mastery truly was. The moment she sidestepped though, she redid the hand seals for the hidden mist technique, attempting to fight fire with fire or rather stealth with stealth in this case and as the mist started to rise from the lake and enter the forest, Yomi used her personal strength of hiding her presence to start her own counter attack on this stranger which had dared to ambush her.

With a successful roundhouse to the throat the Captain was freed from his grasp as he retreated, thanks to the help of his ally. As Kotsubo was still recovering from his attack he was pinned by a select few of the incoming shuriken, which originally served as a fail-safe distraction if he had not released the Captain from his grip just yet. Following just immediately after was the ANBU plunging his kunai deep into the man's upper shoulder. It was a lot to take in, even for a seasoned Shinobi as durable as he was. His flak jacket provided some muffler to the damage dealt, though nothing greatly significant to alleviate the pain her currently felt. This ended with the male ANBU on top of the Kirigakure Jounin, his body weight backed with the impact putting him onto the ground.

The Captain, knowing Kotsubo was subdued glanced at the Genin girl to keep tabs on her, which to his surprise, was already gone. It was in that same instance a great movement occurred, though not in his immediate vicinity, he saw the trail of the girl go in an off direct to his ally's flank. This was met with equal aggression from the Captain. Closing the meager distance between Kotsubo's body and the assaulting blonde his hand began to spark as the familiar blue-white surge overtook his hand.

The male ANBU on top of Kotsubo would notice this sudden presence behind him, though not entirely beneficial to actually see who was assaulting him from the rear. The man would attempt to quickly sprawl off the Kiri Jounin away from the oncoming Genin. He would perhaps be unable to avoid the first jab before moving out of range. This would come with a price for the blonde as the ANBU's ally would come in opportune time. Just a moment before she could execute her initial jab the ANBU Captain was present within reach of her almost as if he intercepted her arrival. He would not attempt to stop her attack, but instead extend a shocking palm towards the blonde's chest. It would be a forward palm strike backed by a surge of electricity.

Back at Yomi, with her own lightning troubles, the bolts of lightning would just miss its target instead striking the small lake she had just exited. This body of water would double the range of the potential attack, spreading electricity to over half of its size. Fortunately for Yomi, she was able to avoid this as she side stepped further onto the land. The tree would collapse leaving charred embers on what remained of the oak, now resorted to a stump. The female ANBU would observe the Chuunin carefully, though would be taken by surprise as the air quality got severely worse. A white fog would make its way into the area increasing in density and making visibility near zero. As her vision of Yomi began to fade the ANBU female formed the Tiger hand seal. In that moment she would create what would appear as two standard clones of herself. They would appear in front of her, side by side, just as the heavy mist settled.

The female ANBU and one of the clones retreated back using their short term memory of the landscape to the nearest tree. Coming in contact they would ascend the tree in a backpedal. They would perch themselves on the trunk nearly three meters up. This left the remaining clone where they once stood. This clone would draw a kunai and prepare for combat with the female.

A splash of blood, the small jarring sensation of her arm stopping as her palm connected with the man's shoulder, landing the first strike successfully. She was beginning her second strike when the captain's strike came in, intending to land on her chest. Already having committed to a second strike, Nozomi was unable to withdraw in time, although she already started to switch targets before the strike landed, discharging the electricity into her.

It would have been worse had she not been wearing the Military Combat gear that Yomi had made for her, the leather and nylon material helping to take some of the damage from the shock into her, so it wasn't a debilitating shock, but it still didn't feel good, and she could feel her muscles tense up around the area it struck, her breath catching slightly as her neck muscles tensed involuntarily, making it hard for her to breathe.

Her own counter attack, if successful, would land on the upper part of the outstretched arm, as her own arms were shorter than the male's, between the bicep and tricep. The speed of her strike had been enhanced by a quick application of her Misty Petal Shift on her striking arm, drastically improving her movement to almost the maximum she could make it. The trail of petals her hand left increased with the burst of movement, and her free hand burst forward towards the captain's neck, assisted in speed by another application of the same jutsu.

She knew she needed to take down at least one of these opponents, and fast. The male ANBU who had moved out of her range had taken himself out of the equation for a brief enough moment that Nozomi could focus on the fight one on one. Fighting both of them at once would not be ideal, and she had perhaps this brief instance to strike fast while her skills were still unknown, her speed underestimated, and her opponents separated.

As for Kotsubo, Nozomi would have wished he could help, but he seemed to be more useless in a fight than Makahshi would have been. It was a rare moment that she wished he was around instead, but damn, Kotsubo was supposed to be a jounin, and he fell with hardly a fight. Leaving this to the Genin. Yomi was off fighting someone else, so Nozomi knew she didn't have any help here, and she was both elated and scared, adrenaline coursing through her.

Not being able to register her opponent herself within the thick mist, Yomi simply decided to calm down and relieve the strain of her jigoku no ken style, keeping herself ready, though also allowing herself to get more accustomed to the feel of the stamina drain. Pressing her thumbs against her legs, she allowed herself to strengthen the muscles in her legs considerably, preferring the idea to run towards the location she knew her comrades to be.

There was a small issue in that case though, as the direction she had to run in, was the same direction in which the chuunin had last been attacked from by the mysterious assailant. "Probably best if I use the remaining time of my chrysantemum dance wisely," She silently muttered to herself. Grabbing a ring of senbon from one of her hippouches, surprised that her stuff had not been displaced despite her swimming accross the lake, she loaded her senbon launcher and raised her arm into the direction from which she was certain that the last attack had come from, holding the cord which would activate the spring mechanism of the launcher tightly with her free hand. "Here goes..."

Instantly, Yomi started to run into the desired direction, keeping herself calm and collected to be prepped for whatever she'd encounter.

A broad, stinging sensation occurred after the Genin connected with his shoulder, a sensation uncommon with blunt impact and more familiar with bladed wounds. It covered a wide area, one roughly the size of a closed fist. It felt as if somebody had a scalpel and left multiple incisions upon impact no matter how brief it was. The ANBU winced and clenched his teeth, though these tells would be well hidden behind his mask. What was left would be reminiscent of a rose-patterned series of incisions with her first attack and second. The flak jacket served as near useless armor except for absorbing some minor blunt trauma from her physical strikes. However, the chakra petals carved its way easily through conventional leather and clothing much easier than steel would have. Although the male ANBU was able to successfully retreat he was left with a few memories to take with him. Blood began to drizzle from the impacts slowly, though not threatening in the least. They would serve as deterrents to a weaker foe. The ANBU was weathered with plenty of combat experience under his belt and would not let such injuries get in the way of his work.

The Captain thrusts his palm at the blonde and strikes her bare chest with a palm delivering blunt impact and electricity through her system. Though, to his surprise did not yield the desired effects. Typically the technique served as an excellent means to stunning and allowing detention. The woman was mildly disturbed at most. He was unbelieving that she was trained enough physically to shrug off such attacks. His brief contact with her begged he was about to receive a retaliation strike soon enough. As she began to move the Captain withdrew his arm and began a sudden retreat back. His teammate, still in the right, would reach back into his hip pouch with his uninjured arm and release a small burst of three shuriken in front of the Captain as he retreated. It was to ensure he would make it back without the fear of pursuit.

The male ANBU would appear directly at the Captain's side as they both now stood ten meters from the blonde. Although the Captain mostly avoided the technique he suffered minor buffs from being in the vicinity of the chakra petals. The incisions indicated the technique served to cut those who make contact. It served as a natural deterrent for close-quarter fighters. It was a losing conflict to try and deal with not getting cut and striking at the same time. In the long run, if they were to win, they would suffer multiple injuries in the process. Such method was sloppy fighting. They hoped to win with the most success possible. With the Jounin down it left the Genin as a sitting duck. Although her technique was bothersome they were the superior fighters.

Both the Captain and ANBU formed the Snake hand sign as, at first notice, no changes. Beneath their clothing their skin would darken to a deep, Earth-brown. Such change would enhance their durability to impossible levels. It is said their skin would be tougher than diamond. It would serve as adequate protection against the technique the blonde used. Both of them, now prepared, would pursue the blonde in a single rush. They felt invincible in the stone armor. They would attempt a simple maneuver to detain her. One would try a direct body slam as the other backed him up to intercept any attempt she had to evade.

Deep in the mist the female Anbu and her clone remain perched in the tree as her clone sat in the open where they all once stood. She tried her best of her perception to listen to the Chuunin, but nothing. Just the sound of the lake gently splashing on the shore and the eerie sound of an occasional breeze. Such atmosphere was exotic if she was not in a scenario where her life was potentially on the line. Through the soundless mist was that of what appeared to be a slight buckling. A subtle clicking of the loading senbon launcher alerted the nearest female ANBU, which happened to be the clone. She couldn't exactly pinpoint the location of the sound, but had a general estimation. The female ANBU and her clones remained vigilant of their surroundings. The clone on the ground, however, quickly thought of a solution. Reaching into her hip pouch she retrieved two kunai, one in each hand, with the ends tied and connected to a spool of steel wire.

Throwing each blade out at either side they eventually nailed into the nearest tree, the right kunai being fourteen meters from the female while the left kunai was twenty two meters. They both were attached to the wire spool. With her fingers on the wire she felt for any disturbances. If the Chuunin were to run into them or even move too fast near them the wire would be disturbed alerting her of the Chuunin's position.

PostSubject: Re: Arrival [Yomi, Nozomi]   Sat May 05, 2018 11:48 am

Yomi had gone off track, or at least she thought so, since she had yet to encounter the person responsible for the blast of lightning which had nearly rendered her into a roasted fish, yet for the sake of reaching her companions, she continued, at least until she heard the distinctive thud of something sharp digging into a tree.

Instantly stopping in her tracks and lowering the use of chakra to a bare minimum of only the necessary strength, she tried to think about what it was that she had heard. Trying to pinpoint the directions from which the sounds originated wasn't easy, but a rough estimate was at the very least possible. It seemed both thuds were at least somewhere around twenty meters away from the chuunin at each side. Had someone else engaged that assailant? It was possible, but another option was more likely in Yomi's eyes. The one she was dealing with seemed to rely on stealth, swift and lethal attacks and more importantly perfect use of the terrain. There was no doubt about it, these were elites, probably ANBU and given their intrusion into Kumogakure territory, there was no doubt about the assailant's origin now.

Rather than running, the chuunin now carefully walked forward at a much slower and much more silent pace, raising her arm and calmly calculating the direction in which to unleash the senbon that were still in place on her senbon launcher.

With the general estimation of the origin of the two sounds in her mind, the meassure of distance she had walked forwards since hearing those sounds and more importantly the faint shadows of the forest which were almost visible through the thick mist she herself had unleashed upon it, Yomi finally decided upon a singular spot to fire off her senbon: somewhat near the center of all her estimations.

She had never truly perfected the way to fight stealthily, but if there was no other option... the chuunin's far above average intellect proved to be her most dangerous weapon. "Angle of thirty degrees, no windspeed that could off-balance the senbon and an enemy who's seemingly not comfortable to close quarters combat...this is decent training at the very least."

Nozomi's mouth formed a frown as the Captain was able to mostly avoid her counter attack, as she'd been hoping to take one of them down, and fast. Unfortunately, this meant that she had to fight them both and the element of surprise was no longer on her side when it came to her technique's potential. The petal blades were more useful when underestimated, although they weren't entirely useless now. Still, a change of strategy was in order, as she couldn't fight both of them at the same time in a straight up taijutsu match. One of them was hard enough as it was, and they were at least relative in terms of her highest levels of speed.

Cancelling the Dance of the Misty Petal technique as they backed away to regroup, leaving 10 meters between them, Nozomi herself formed a mass of chakra inside her, and her hands moved to the body flicker sign, her Misty Petal Propulsion aiding in the speed of the body flicker. A trail of petals was left behind where she had been as she moved towards the lake, her surroundings and vision blurred heavily, but as she reached it, she began weaving more signs, slowing down partially before she got to the water. Tiger, dog, monkey, snake, boar, tiger. The last sign formed, and the water around her began to surge over and around her, forming a bubble about a meter around her in all directions as the lake began to bend to her whim.

Massive quantities of the lake's water shifted, as the waterline of most of the lake noticeably receded, while the area around Nozomi, who was now in a safe bubble of air under a mass amount of water, would start surging towards the two ANBU she was fighting, seeking to smash them down into the ground, and hold them there until they passed out. It wasn't the way she liked to fight, and this technique was the most draining one she had, but she could maintain it for a little while.

She smirked a little, aware that these shinobi were unaware that a lowly genin like her had a technique like this, as it was one of the secret techniques of Kirigakure, and even among Kiri-nin it wasn't particularly known. She spared little thought to whether Kotsubo would be caught in the cross fire of the technique, although he probably was. If he could breathe underwater, then he'd be fine, although the crushing force of the water continuously pushing downward to keep anyone caught in it where they were would deal no small amount of damage for sure.

It didn't matter to her though, Kotsubo was only an after thought. She had half a mind to kill him anyhow, but there were other concerns at the moment. Like her depleting chakra reserves and the two ANBU. Her fear was starting to give way to something else though, something stirring within her as the fight for her life kicked in. Something primal inside her that lay dormant. A surge of chakra ran through her as she fueled her technique with her chakra, and her reserves began massively increasing, drawing on her own body's energy.

Her intense focus on coordinating the speed and power of the Water-Heaven's Convergence technique made thinking and planning anything other than the simple thought to smash them into the ground impossible. Inside the bubble she was in, and around the area, her chakra surge was almost noticeable, although it was probably less so important to note than the technique itself was.

As the two ANBU regrouped, preparing their Snake hand seal the Genin would do the same preparing a single hand sign of her own. The Genin would presumably make a retreat pass the two ANBU. They would turn to follow her movements as she blindly charged into the thick white fog. It was not worth their time to pursuit her in such an unfavorable environment. Before them laid an unconscious Jounin of Kirigakure. A hostage would prove more than beneficial to them than a full on conflict. On top of it, they would still be able to question. The men instead chose to approach the shark man, ensuring he was unconscious before detaining him by tying his hands behind his back in ninja wire.

With two wired-rigged kunai stuck into the nearest medium she paid close attention to her surroundings. Her method had a flaw in it, being the target could easily maneuver themselves around whatever tree the kunai was lodged in assuming they knew what she was up to. The entire experience was rather eerie for the female ANBU. She would be lying to herself if she was not a bit panicked. Having near zero visibility where you can not even see your own hands and feet made it feel like she was a cloud. It was like a jumpscare waiting to happen. And that it did. The sound of wire creaking as it was pulled, the tension triggering the spring mechanism in the senbon loader causing the senbon needles to fire out from their barrel. The female ANBU clone ascended in an almost flinch-like reaction feeling confident she was safe up above unless her opponent decided to randomly fire into the air. Snagging her cloak with her hand she removed the piece of clothing letting go at her climax.

With her fingers free from the wire and cloak removed she descended with her cloak flapping in the air making an impact on the ground several meters from her location. The female ANBU clone had no idea where her target was now. Despite leaping only a few meters the zero visibility left no confirmation on her end how far she went. Suddenly, a gust of wind would pass by as the sound of water splashing occurred several meters before her. This alarmed the ANBU as she blindly charged towards the sound. As she neared the shore her vision would be restored, something not expected in the least. As the fog dragged towards the lake the water along the shore did as well, as if a massive hurricane was being fueled. The clone stood in awe as the build up led to a young blonde, the one she recognized from before. The same girl who was asleep with the resting Jounin. Her power was unfathomable, the described Genin being able to move as much water as she did.

It was at that moment the female ANBU and her side companion clone also realized this and shared the same thought. "It appears we bit off more than we could chew..." She mumbled to herself amidst the powering of the water tempest that was about to come their way. The blue lake water capsuled the female as she utilized the water source in a form of free manipulation. The water began to rush towards the land in a massive, dense surge. It would surely wash away the clone who was on the land and potentially wash away the olive skinned female companion. As the clone was sacked it was reduced to its nature, though the electricity having such a limited range only meant to shock close by targets did not benefit the ANBU in the slightest.

The water surge crashed into the tree the female was perched on, though to her surprise the water made no attempt to scale. With no hesitation the remaining clone and the real host would retreat along the treeline staying within the foliage out of sight, and hopefully out of range as well. The water's real target was the Captain and the male ANBU who, with Kotsubo over his shoulder, began a speedy retreat. Holding the half Tiger hand seal they would vanish in a cloud of smoke darting as far as they could away from the water deeper into the woods. They would continue with their retreat along with the female ANBU trailing not far behind. The plan was foiled and battle became too hot. At the very least they would make off with the presumed Captain and Jounin of their squad leaving them headless and weaker in numbers. Given if they were encountered again the battle would be more in their favor.

Yomi was biding her time, shooting off her senbon just to try and have a lucky potshot, but when the mist started to retreat for some readson, the chuunin finally came to the realization that she was actually closer to her companions than she initially thought. After all, the only technique she knew that was capable of drawing in so much water from it's surroundings was Nozomi's technique, the one the genin had used on her before.

"Goddamned," Yomi yelled in anger when she noticed that when the assailants were retreating, they took their team captain with them. "He's the one with the mission briefing, damn it ... damn this mess!!"

However, before she could act, Yomi could feel her pressure strike technique end abruptly, leaving her with no choice but to regroup with Nozomi and perhaps formulate a plan.

Nozomi's vortex crashed into the ground, but in the end it amounted to nothing more than an impressive showing of power, as she hadn't managed to catch anyone with it. Letting the water wash back towards the lake, Nozomi fumed.

"Are you fucking kidding me!? What a fucking useless Jounin! We should have killed him when we had a chance to! Letting himself get captured with such a pathetic showing of a fight? It's an embarrassment to Kiri, it's an embarrassment to me. I'll fucking kill the Mizukage for sending us with him. How dare he assign us that jounin. I've seen better showings from academy students!"

She was stomping around on the ground, throwing a small tantrum. Kotsubo being captured was bad. He had intel on Kiri, and he had intel on their missions. Beyond that, she couldn't be sure that he wouldn't just sell them out and have them killed just to preserve his own skin. Calming down slightly when she saw Yomi, Nozomi sighed. "We should find somewhere safe to rest. I used a lot of energy."

She needed some sleep to actually normalize her chakra and body energy levels. The pills were only good for a little bit and she needed to rest.

The Kiri shinobi were having a bad day. And there was a high probability it was going to get worse for them. A large shadow was cast around the ground beneath them as Balerion flew overhead. If the Kiri-Nin had the sense to look above they'd see a gargantuan black dragon fly past. It was as if he wasn't even trying to hide his presence. The flapping of its wings was sufficient enough to kick up a fair breeze around him despite how high in the sky he was. Atop the black beast sat Honiko Yoshidara. A terrorist, religious fanatic, and adventurer.

The S-Class Criminal was sitting cross legged and remained perfectly still as she tuned herself in to the Natural Energy all around her. She had activated the Mind's Eye of the Kagura Technique giving her complete awareness of all the persons and activities occurring below. She snorted through her nose as she noted the presence of several shinobi within her sensing range. It appeared the mice had come out to play. This was all well and good, it would prove an interesting diversion while she set out to work. The more the merrier....

If any showed any promise she might even choose to enlighten them and set them on the path to purpose and righteousness. It was an amusing thought and it was the only reason she didn't even bother to hide herself. C had been spotted by numerous governments no doubt and just as she expected they had come to investigate. The best and brightest would all die where they stood, flee in terror and cowardice or fall to their knees in absolute worship of her. It was a win-win-win scenario as far as she was concerned. Honiko allowed herself a small grin as she continued meditating from her mount. The dragon would then exit the area heading towards the mountains where its target lay.

Exit Honiko & Balerion

Sitting down on the ground after all which had recently transpired, Yomi placed both her hands against her head and grabbed her hair quite roughly, all the while letting out a loud, near primal sounding roar. "Goddamnit, for crying out effing loud!!" Glaring at Nozomi, the chuunin made no effort to mask her rage, anger and utter disappointment. "Here we are, stuck in this foreign cesspool of a nation. That imbecile has managed to get captured, I managed to be outmanneuvred and you... well, you did ok...but still...The heck are we going to do now?"

Annoyed by her own failure, the fact that Kotsubo was the only one with the full mission detail and just the very notion of being stuck in an alien nation, Yomi let out another roar of pure and undiluted rage. Standing up again, she tilted her head backwards and pressed one of her hands against her forehead, looking at the sky for a moment, pondering for what move to make next. It was then that she saw it...a massive shadow looming over the forest in which they stood, passing straight above them for but a moment before leaving sight again. The chuunin grinned as inspiration hit her, a single idea managed to brew inside her mind.

"No, we don't camp...we press on," Pointing in the direction in which she last saw the strange shinobi flee with their commander, the chuunin let out a soft chuckle. "Kirigakure law dictates that we leave no man behind...at least not alive. We will find their base, we will find that incompetent fool and if need be kill him. We have a duty and we will fullfill it."

Pulling off her coat and taking her cloak from her backpack, the chuunin wrapped the stealthy piece of clothing around her and pulled the hood over her head. With a wicked grin on her face and pure bloodlust in her eyes, Yomi looked at Nozomi. "How about we show these ingrates how the kiri-nin hunt their prey?"
